November 5th at Black Sheep: Fel Fae, Guts Club, Nick Murphy

Coming up at Black Sheep on Thursday, November 5th we have a show announcement for you all! What show is this!? It’s a three-act show with a touring band from Louisiana. For this one we have the instrumental musical project, Fel Fae. The touring act on the bill is “Guts Club” from New Orleans. You can stream some of their music below to find out what they are all about. Then opening things up is another Fel Fae related act, and that is Nick Murphy playing solo-acoustic!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Say Something, The Origin Story, Garter, Ragna Rye

It’s a Friday night and there is a show happening at Black Sheep! This one is a punk show for fans of ska and dancing. Tonight we are going to keep The Black Sheep running on circle pits with the hectic hardcore/punk band Say Something. The ska band on the bill tonight is a new one from Lincoln, Illinois called The Origin Story- featuring members of bands that have played at Black Sheep before. Before that is the Nighthawk-flavored punk band Garter– whose new demo can be streamed below. Starting things off is the first Black Sheep performance for Springfield folk/rock band Ragna Rye.

The show ended up being the final one for King Worm, and also possibly the final show for hit NWI band The Coneheads. Mark Lee Reynolds: “Resorts”

Today we have a stream of a new 6-track release by Mark Lee Reynolds, or “MLR”. Mark is and has been an active member of projects War Magic, Night/Hex, Prescott, Ppleasser, among others. His newest release is called Resorts and you can find it streaming below. You can head over to the MLR bandcamp page where you can also stream the release and download it for $3.

None of Mark’s current projects have any shows lined up right now.

GRINN: “GRINN Again”

Today we have some new music from Springfield/Bloomington hardcore project GRINN. GRINN played at Black Sheep for the first time this past weekend as part of a last minute after show for the Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s concert. There are two new tracks that have been released under the release GRINN AGAIN up on the Ooey Gooey bandcamp page. Listen below or head over to the Ooey Gooey bandcamp where you can download them at your own price.

It looks like GRINN does not have any live shows currently lined up.

October 10th (Saturday) at The Radon Lounge: Cantalouper, Zoo, The Locals, Adam Maletich

There are plenty of house shows happening in and around Springfield this week- including the very last minute studio show that was held in South Town Studio last night and the Sleeping Cranes show that was held last night at another house. We feel it is important to highlight another house show that will be happening this Saturday, October 10th over at our friends The Radon Lounge. This show will feature Lincoln-based indie/shoegaze band Cantalouper, whose music you can find streaming below. Then the touring act on the bill is Zoo – a solo project by Cory Pavlinic from Cincinnati, Ohio. Before that are locals, The Locals, a local band from her in Springfield. Opening things up will be a performance by Adam Maletich.

The show at The Radon Lounge starts at 7:00 pm and the house is asking for $5 to support the out of town bands. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page for a list of shows that will be happening in town outside of Black Sheep.

Dumb Records In Need of Volunteers/Interns

With all of the craziness happening at Southtown record store Dumb Records this fall, we are officially calling out in need of volunteers and interns to work at our store! Earlier today we told you that we picked up all of the left over stock from Error Records, a store in Urbana that ended at the end of last month. With all of this craziness we are trying to not cut back on open hours this fall/winter and we need all of the help we can get!!

We are looking for volunteers and interns that would be able to pick up regular weekly shifts (usually four hours at a time) at Dumb Records, especially during the week. If interested you can get ahold of us at dumbrecs@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

The past week has been a hectic one over at Dumb Records (1107 South Grand Ave. East), because all of the remaining product from Error Records in Urbana has somehow made its way into our store. As some of you know, Error Records (the record store) has decided to call it a day, and a new store will continue in the same space called See You CD & Vinyl. We wish all of our friends the best of luck with all of their endeavors! Because of this madness, there are hundreds and hundreds of new items inside Dumb Records that were not there before! We even doubled some of our inventory in different formats, and not sell VHS tapes! Everyone should stop by our stop at some point this week- we assure you will find something there that wasn’t there before! New Band Pages: Set Fire To Salem

It’s been a little while since we have gotten a new band page together. Tonight we are bringing you a brand new page for Springfield’s newest metal band called Set Fire To Salem. You can check out Set Fire To Salem’s new band page right here where you can learn more about the group, and also stream some of their music. Set Fire To Salem played their first Black Sheep show last month and will be planning something for later this fall very soon.

Tonight at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s: The Coneheads, King Worm, Wolf Luv, Cal & The Calories

It’s October, and a very special day that we have all be waiting months for has finally arrived! There are no shows at Black Sheep this weekend- instead, tonight at 6:00 pm there will be a show on the stage at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s in Springfield (2501 Stevenson Drive). Tonight The Coneheads from North Western Indiana will be taking the stage. Understand America’s cone-craze by listening to the music on the player below. This show will also feature local hardcore/punk band King Worm, which we have heard is playing their final show for this special night. Before then you get to see a real live wolf crawl around on the Hardee’s stage with the band Wolf Luv. And opening things right up at 6 is our friend Cal and his band Cal & The Cruisers.

Again, tonight will start at 6:00 pm and no later! This show is all ages and free to the public, and there will be a donation jar and some posters for sale for the traveling bands and to cover costs of event insurance. Check out a facebook event right here.
