Earlier this Sunday we were graced with a rare performance by Dave Adams (Springfield musician active in the band Food & Money 1979-1982), playing mostly some new solo material inside of Dumb Records. Dave was joined by his brother Doug on bass and friend Jeff on guitar. They performed one Food & Money song – “Stretch Pants” which we did take video of and have on the player embedded below.

Dave is currently back in California right now working on his next solo album – Yoga Party. Check out the Springfield Illinois Music History facebook page as well for more photos and info on bands of Springfield’s past. Dumb Records is big on all those special events and sales happening throughout the year, and who could forget that Cassette Store Day happens in the fall? This will be the record store’s third time participating in annual Cassette Store Day which this year falls on Saturday, October 8th. Much like Record Store Day in April, for Cassette Store day there are a number of exclusive cassettes released just for the day available at a select number of record stores. More info can be found on the Cassette Store Day website right here. Dumb Records will be picking up a good amount of those releases in the store. In addition to that, the store is offering 30% off all non-exclusive cassettes, and 15% off everything else in the store.

Dumb Records will be open that day from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. There will also be a 7:00 pm show inside the store to go along with! The show will feature Springfield electronic artist “Rustocrat” whose music you can find streaming bel0w. We also have a very rare performance by Taylorville garage band “The Nine Elevens” who last performed at Hardee’s at Dumb Fest. Opening things up is another newer act and that is Eric Marvel of Luzhin Defense doing some new material. Check out a facebook event for all of that right here. Also check out our shows page for a better look at everything else coming up in Southtown this fall.

Then we also have the spooky garage pop band SAP, from right here in our own backyard. Then up is nothing but Nectar from Champaign/Urbana Illinois. Here’s a show happening at Black Sheep on Monday, October 10th (Columbus Day)! It is going to feature some groups performing various forms of jazz and folk for what surely will be an interesting night. First off we have Real Live Tigers – a solo folk artist from Austin, Texas who did play Black Sheep before a couple of years ago in the summer of 2014. We might have hosted the show outside by our back door? Either way, check out some of Real Live Tigers’s music streaming below. Then the other touring act we have on this bill is “The Blues” from Oakland California. No, that’s not the hockey team there- they are a two-piece experimental jazz project. Then starting this show off, it’s only fitting that we have the End Times Trio– Springfield freeform jazz project lined up. It has also been a minute since we’ve seen them perform on the stage of Black Sheep.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and for admission we are asking for $6. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this fall.
