byetheater.jpg

We are sorry to be bringing some bad news here at the beginning of the month and we did have some exciting things planned with The Absurdist People’s Theatre Troupe, but unfortunately due to some unforseen circumstances that theatre troupe’s production of August Wilson’s Gem of The Ocean is being cancelled. The production was going to be held at Black Sheep May 19th, 20th, and 21st. Follow The Absurdist People’s Theatre Troupe on facebook to see if any more information is available later on about any sort of rescheduling or any later projects being planned.

Our shows calendar has also been updated.

Boon: “1st Street”

Earlier today we delivered a brand new band page on our site, and here is some brand new Springfield music from the band boon! Boon hasn’t been too active playing shows in recent months, but they have been hard at work with some new material which has been released recently. The band has released 1st Street – their third release and first since putting out the Southtown EP three years ago in 2014. Stream that new boon on the player below. There are also a few remaining CDs of this available for free inside Dumb Records, and you can head over to the band’s bandcamp page to download the tracks for free.

Boon does not have any live shows lined up as far as we know.

New Band Pages: Weeping Iniquity

unnamed

Hey it’s the beginning of the week, and also the month of May so we better kick off the month right and start delivering you more fresh local music content right here on our site. Today we have a brand new page up on our site for the local project Weeping Iniquity. If you head over to the newly created page right here you can check out some new music from the project and also learn a thing or two more on what it’s all about. Weeping Iniquity will be performing at Dumb Fe5t on Saturday, June 10th just a little more than one month away! Related project Gutterpriest will also be doing a special set during our cover show on Saturday, May 13th.

Check out any of our 65+ band pages right here on our current bands page. Do you play in a local band or project that has not set up a page with us? Get ahold of us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you on setting something up!

Yes, we do have a show happening at Black Sheep tonight! Join us for a night of noise, ambience, jazz, and other stuff. Tonight we have 5 projects performing all local to Springfield. This includes the wild and noisy avant guard act T.A.N.G. who we have not seen performing at Black Sheep in a minute. Also a few ambient acts, including the debut of a project with the long name of “Letters from the Schumann Resonance.” Timothy Donavan Russell will be bringing the ambience to The Black Sheep stage as well- Timothy actually just came out with a new album called “Biosphere” that you can check out right here. We’ll have a separate post for that shortly. It’s also been a minute, but End Times Trio will be performing at that one. End Times Trio is the free jazz project featuring professor Richard Gilman-Opalsky who gave a talk and book release at Black Sheep at the start of this year. Looks like things for this one will be opening up with Pretend I’m Not There who’s music you can stream on the player below.

This show will start early at 6:00 pm since there is so much packed in to one night and admission is $5. Check out an event page right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to take a closer look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this spring and summer.

This show is also exciting because you get to see Jeff Williams of the band NIL8 perform in the Radon’s basement. See Jeff perform NIL8’s hit tune “basement show” in this special setting. Also on the bill is the first ever show for a new project called “Layers” featuring members of Honey//Suck and Pryss. Opening things up is a special set by new downtown grocery store, Milk & Honey!

That show will be starting at the Radon Lounge at 7pm and admission for this one is $10 (yes, it is worth it). Check out the Radon Lounge’s website to inquire about an address. Find a facebook event for this show right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page which is not at all up to date right now.
