Hip Hop Matinee Show Today at Dumb Records With L-Smooth, Mainframe, Nefarious Cloud, DJ Tariq

We hope you all are having a great weekend. If you don’t have anything going on this beautiful Sunday afternoon we have just the perfect thing. And it’s free! Happening inside Dumb Records (1107 South Grand Ave East) today only – we have a few hip hop acts – two from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and one local. The two from OKC are “L-Smooth” and “Mainframe.” Check out a music video from L-Smooth at the bottom of this post to get an idea on what that’s all about. In addition to those two touring acts, we also have local performer Nefarious Cloud on the bill. Nefarious is also playing Black Sheep Fest this year on August 5th. Last but not least we have DJ Tariq playing some mixes throughout the duration of the show. Tariq actually put together the flier for the show!

July 22nd at Black Sheep: RASH, Stick People, Undone

“PUNK SHOW” – that’s what we have going on here at Black Sheep on Saturday, July 22nd in just two weeks wether you like it or not. We got just three bands comin’ at ya all with pretty short and fast sets. This includes the band RASH from Chicago, you can stream some music from them on the player below. We also have a couple of local acts from right here in Springfield of course. You like Nirvana? Well you are in luck because we’ve got the hit Taylorville grunge / alternative band Stick People on board for this one. They are good as heck. Opening things up is somewhat of another return of the almost lost and forgotten Springfield punk band Undone!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Runaway Brother, Farseek, Bottom Bracket, Jessica Knight

The shows over here just don’t stop!! We’ve got a pretty good one lined up tonight. For this one we have the band Runaway Brother returning from Ohio – the band last played here over two years ago in the spring of 2014 along with Looming. Stream some of Runaway Brother’s newer music on the player embedded below. Runaway brother will be touring with the solo project “Farseek” also from Ohio and also familiar to the Black Sheep stage. For this one we have local band Bottom Bracket on the bill. Opening things up is also a rare solo performance by Jessica Knight of Looming.

July 21st at Black Sheep: Kryosis, Eyes From Above, Robot Army, Bloodsoaked Boogie Bandits

Are you ready for a big night of metal at Black Sheep? Well this one is happening exactly two weeks from today on Friday, July 21st and features plenty of that. This show features the newer Springfield metal group Kryosis. Check out their brand new EP streaming right here. We have another metal band new to the Springfield area called “Eyes From Above” who played at Black Sheep for another show late last month. Stream a song from them on the player embedded below. Then we’ve got a metal band from Jacksonville, Illinois lined up called “Robot Army.” Opening things up we’ve got an act called Bloodsoaked Boogie Bandits- get ready to boogie with them!

Today is Friday, so we’ve got another fun and exciting episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show lined up. Our show airs today and every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm. Today our special guest behind door #1 is Nefarious Cloud, local hip hop artist  and Cinnamon Toast Crunch enthusiast who will be performing a matinee show inside Dumb Records at 3:00 pm this Sunday and also at Black Sheep Fest on August 5th. We’ll be kickin’ it in the studio with Nefarious and playing some of his songs.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Transgression, Dead Change, Pryss, Prowess

Tonight! We have this happening hardcore show happening at Black Sheep tonight, with two touring acts coming from Kentucky. We have no idea what the order of bands will end up being tonight, so be sure to come out to catch it all! The touring acts on the bill include both Transgression and Head Change from Louisville, Kentucky. You can stream some of Head Change’s music on the player below. We also have local band Prowess, the three-piece fast punk band. Also the band Pryss is on board to rock.

July 14th at Dumb Records: Holy Pinto, Isaac Arms, Bernie Flesch, Marble Teeth, Kate Ridge

Are you ready for our next show happening inside Dumb Records? Well, there actually is a hip hop show happening there this Sunday at 3:00 pm – find out more about that one right here. But there’s even now another one happening one week from tomorrow on Saturday, July 14th! That one is going to be mostly acoustic acts. For this one we have a group returning from the UK called “Holy Pinto” – they had performed up in Southtown Studio when that was active under Brandon Carnes a few years back. Stream some Holy Pinto beans on the player embedded below. Up before that is our good friend Isaac Arms of Heirship Records performing some tunes. Also on deck is Bernie Flesch, our other good friend from Bar None. Hi Bernie! We also have an act lined up called “Marble Teeth” from Decatur. Who’s that? Is that the guy from the band Spooky Poo? Who knows! Opening things up looks like we have Kate Ridge, who recently recorded some material up in Southtown Sound on the way soon.

Looming Debut New Song, New Album “Seed” Out September 29th

It is an exciting day indeed because the rising band Looming have officially announced their new album today through website Brooklyn Vegan. The new album is officially titled Seed and the release date is scheduled for September 29th. The album is being put out by No Sleep Records, who also released the band’s first full length album Nailbiter in 2015. Artwork was once again done by Milk Tirehaus of the band King Worm. Check out the Brooklyn Vegan article right here. The article also lists out solo tour dates for Jessica Knight throughout the months of August and September this year before the album is released. In addition to announcing the album, the band is also releasing the first track off of Seed – and that is the song “Down” which you can find on the youtube player embedded below.

Looming does have two shows currently lined up in Springfield – this includes Thursday, July 27th later this month along with Aviator, Lume, and Moondead and also Downhome Music Festival on Saturday, July 28th.

Discontent Fest Happening in Peoria on July 22nd + 23rd

Now that we are well into the summer the summer festivals don’t stop! This summer brings the second year for Peoria hardcore music festival Discontent Fest happening on Saturday and Sunday July 22nd and 23rd. We count a total of 40 bands playing the fest as listed on the flier above, with 20 bands on each day. The lineup this year features a good handful of bands all familiar to Black Sheep and also Dumb Fest – including Falter, Stye, P.E.A.R.L., 86 Gemini, Pryss, and Dream Probe.

A breakedown of the full lineup along with links to listen to each band can be found right here on the Discontent Fest facebook page. Both days will be happening at The Rail II in Peoria, which is all ages as far as we can tell. Ticket info and pricing has not yet been released.

Monday at Black Sheep: Pretend I’m Not There, Leche, Say Something, Grady Drugg

As we said yesterday, we are now at the beginning of a streak of 5 shows in a total of 6 days at Black Sheep / Dumb Records. Today is the only day out of all of those there isn’t a show, and this one on Monday, July 10th is going to be the last of the streak. For this show looks like we got ourselves the touring cowboy punk band from Austin, Texas – “Leche” on board. Stream some of their music on the player below. Pretend I’m Not There – local solo ambient act – is what’s going to be closing out the night. We should also mention that Leche the band is touring with another lo-fi solo act from Austin who will also be playing the show. That is “Grady Drugg” at the bottom of that there flier. And what do you know this show is bringing out a rare appearance by the local punk band Say Something, first time we have seen them in a minute.
