Tonight at Black Sheep: Open Mic + Drags Ball

surrenderparadise

Tonight we are doing something a little different at Black Sheep, and that is combining our open mic night with a “Drags Ball!” The open mic portion of the night will operate as usual- with 15 minute time slots for each performance. We might have a couple of slots open to be claimed at the show, so if you would like to perform come out early! Drag performances will also be happening throughout the night in different categories. “Drags” have the opportunity to be themselves, dress up, or do whatever they want! We even have our stage pulled out into a fancy runway right now. Here is what we have mapped out for tonight’s schedule:

7:00 – 7:15 Rhys
7:15 – 7:30 (open)
7:30 – 8:00 (drag categories 1+2)
8:00 – 8:15 Pretend I’m Not There
8:15 – 8:30 Slacker Tapehead
8:30 – 9:00 (drag categories 3+4)
9:00 – 9:15 Ian Winterbauer
9:15 – 9:30 Perfect Strangers
9:30 – 10:00 (drag categories 5+6)
10:00 – 10:15 (open)

There also might be a performance by a band from Chicago somewhere in the night. As you can see, things tonight kick off at 7:00 pm. The show is $3, and drags or people performing this time around get in for free. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

It’s 2016 and there are new bands popping up all over town. We are going to do our best to keep up with all of this nonsense and will be trying to create new band pages on our site for all these new bands. This week’s new band page is for Moondead– the new three piece Springfield alt/punk band (pictured above). If you head over to Moondead’s page right here you can find out more about the band, stream their first hit single, and find links to other media outlets. Moondead’s next show lined up is at Black Sheep on February 12th along with bands SAP and The Minotaurs.

Do you play in a Springfield band or are you a solo musician who we do not have a page set up for yet? Get in touch with us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will be happy to work with you in setting up a new page! Also check out our current bands page for a complete look at the 60+ band pages for current bands we have set up.

Looks like today we are announcing a pretty stacked lineup for a show happening here at Black Sheep on Saturday, February 20th. This one is supposed to be the EP release for Central Illinois based shoegaze band Lavender. You can check out at least one of those songs from that release streaming below. This show will also feature heavy-hitting Springfield emo band Our Lady, who also have a show coming up at Black Sheep this Wednesday! Before both of them we have the hardcore band from Alton, Illinois called “LifeWithout.” Also on the bill is the Champaign/Urbana atmospheric emo band and friends of Black Sheep, Krelboyne. Then opening things up it looks like we have Pretend I’m Not There, the ambient noisy solo project of B.J. Pearce.

This show will be another 7:00 pm $5 show. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a full look at everything coming up at Black Sheep in the coming months.
