Coming up on Friday, January 30th we have a show coming up at Black Sheep for you all. It is looking like this one will be a good old fashioned three-band punk show. This show will also be the return of Champaign/Urbana wolf-fronted punk band Wolf Luv. Last time Wolf Luv made an appearance in Southtown was on the ramp of Skank Skates during Dumb Fest 2. This show will begin at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything coming up at Black Sheep and Southtown.

Dumb Fest Facebook Page

dumbfestpage2

It looks like a new facebook page has been created for Dumb Fest (the whole fest, not just Dumb Fest 2 or 3). Dumb Fest is an annual music festival in Southtown focusing on DIY music and punk happening in Central Illinois, the Midwest, and the surrounding areas. The page has confirmed that planning for a third Dumb Fest has begun, but no dates or bands have been confirmed yet. You can be on the lookout for date announcements next month, and probably band announcements in March. Check out the new page right here.

Dumb Fest 2 happened last year on June 13th and 14th at Black Sheep, Skank Skates, Dumb Records, and South Town Studio. You can find a lot of photos from that event on our Dumb Fest 2 flickr album.

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: Ingot Unreleased 1994 Demo

kent-and-ben-retouched

Looks like Springfield music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored are at it again in 2015, this time bringing us an unreleased demo from 1994. The demo is from the old Springfield band Ingot (pictured above playing at Skank Skates in the early 1990’s. From the blog:

When I met up with Ben Jacob a couple of years back to discuss music and borrow some of his recordings from what can only be described as an unbelievable and immaculate collection of 1990’s Springfield and regional music, he provided me with something that simply blew my mind — an ingot demo from 1994 containing 4 unreleased songs!!!  I had heard some folks speak of the song, “Dad, The Evil Clown” in recent years, but I never recalled ever hearing it played live and it certainly wasn’t on either of the two cassettes the band released in 1994 and 1995.  When Ben pulled out this cassette and I saw “Dad, The Evil Clown” scribbled on the j-card along with 3 other songs that I didn’t recognize, I nearly jumped out of my skin with excitement!  IT STILL EXISTS!!  …and Ben still has his master copy!!  Needless to say, I took great care with this one to be certain to preserve the recording exactly as it was captured over 20 years ago!!  The version you have here has been “touched up” a little bit to improve the overall sound and “beef things up”, but in no way takes away from the original recording.

You can head over to somethingscantbeignored.wordpress.com and stream or download the full 1994 demo.

The Radon Lounge’s “14 Things From 2014”

16054651356_47d24725b9_z

Springfield house venue The Radon Lounge posted their “14 Things From 2014,” a list of 14 things that happened there that made 2014 a special year. From The Radon Lounge website:

One of our basic human needs is to obtain some top 10 list of things at the end of a calendar year. Do not fret, as I will not disappoint you. My spin is to provide 14 memorable moments of 2014. I’m not saying any of these moments are better than others, or are in anyway all the great moments of 2014, these are just 14 awesome things that happened at the Radon Lounge

The Radon Lounge has also already set the date for their big Horse Show happening in the summer and that is Saturday, June 20th 2015. No bands have been announced so far, but you can head over to their Horse Show Page for a better look at what that is all about. If you head over to The Radon Lounge’s shows page you can also have a look at what other shows the venue has coming up in 2015.
