New Band Pages Added: Luzhin Defense, Go!Tsunami, Ghost Hollow Road, The Limiates

Since the launch of our new website we have added four new band pages for you all to check out.

The first three are additions to our current bands section.  The first is the two-man synth electronic project, Luzhin Defense.  Then we have the surf rock band Go!Tsunami.  Be sure to check out their long and well-written bio.  And then we have a page for Americana folk band Ghost Hollow Road.

Our past bands section is going to be an on going project.  We have added a page for The Limiates, an old ska band from the late 1990s.  For them you can stream their album from a newly created bandcamp player, or you can head over to the Springfield music Some Things Can’t Be Ignored for more info on the band.

Making pages for every past and current Springfield band and musical project will take some time, and we will never be able to come close to covering every band without your help.  If you play in a band or have played in a past band that is not yet on our site then please get a hold of us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com.  We would love to hear from you.

We would also like to say thanks for everyone who has been supportive of the new website so far.  We launched the site about one week ago and have been amazed at how great of a response we have been getting.  It’s all of you supportive people out there that keep The Black Sheep going and projects like this one would not be possible without you.

The BXS Street Team

Hey everybody!

Anybody involved with any part of the entertainment industry understands the importance for solid promotion. Here at Black Sheep, it’s no mystery why fliering for shows works. This being said, it’s hard for us to hit the streets all the time to hang up fliers. The street team is where you come in! Helping us hang up fliers all over town will help make shows more successful, and in turn make us more successful.

Our first meeting/get to know each other/flier hang up session will be this Saturday at 1:30pm. We will be meeting up in the pedestrian walkway area (between 5th and 6th, at the end of Adams) outside of Prairie Archives Used Rare and Antiquarian Booksellers downtown. We will cover the basic how-to’s of fliering and where-at’s in Springfield, then hit the streets! All you need to bring is you and a friend. Fliers and tape will be provided.

If you are interested in being a part of our all important street team, please email us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com or just show up this Saturday!

The Super Fun Return of Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship!

Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship has been a staple of the Metro St. Louis music scene for as long as we can remember.  Fueled by professional wrestling and covered in sweat, Superfun brings their own brand of fun to ring.  Anybody that’s had an opportunity to see them, you know how fun it truly is.

September 8th is going to be a crazy one. Not only is this Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketships first show at Black Sheep in a couple years, it’s also the return of Springfield’s own And God Said Dance… All of this balanced with the newer acousti-punk band Lovecow.  Wow, it’s going to get weird!   You can find a facebook event for the show here.  And don’t forget to stay updated with all of our upcoming shows through our shows page!

Here is a taste of Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship:

David Liebe Hart (of The Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!/Adult Swim) at Black Sheep! UPDATED!

We are extremely excited to announce that David Liebe Hart will be playing Black Sheep on the 28th of September.  He is touring with Adam Papagan. They’re getting a little more loud this time around.  When asked how to describe his current musical endeavors, Liebe Hart simply says: Peace, Love, and Punk Rock.  Check the first video below for a taste of his punk band.

This little blurb is straight for Liebe Hart’s team:

Though not yet a household name, musician, artist, puppeteer, and actor David Liebe Hart has been a cult personality for decades.  His odd street performances have become a familiar sight to Hollywood Bowl patrons, and each year Liebe Hart’s colorful Christmas artwork can be found on store windows across Southern California.  In 1988, he followed the guidance of his Sunday School teacher Jim Henson and began producing “The Junior Christian Science Bible Lesson Program” on public access cable. With such an impressive resume, it wasn’t long before Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim cast Liebe Hart to sing his bizarre songs on their hit Cartoon Network show, “Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show, Great Job!”.  David’s positive, stream of consciousness songs focus on the topics most important to him; beautiful women, famous actors, and his sincere belief in UFO’s.

Since being “discovered” by Tim and Eric in 2006, David Liebe Hart has performed to sell-out crowds with the comedians, worked with John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill, and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In 2010, he formed a punk band with his frequent collaborator Adam Papagan.  During the past year, they have performed at CMJ, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Free Press Fest, and SXSW, – sharing the stage with The Thermals, Lemuria, Shonen Knife, Thee Oh Sees, Valient Thorr, Jacuzzi Boys, and many others.  David has taken the recognition he’s found so late in life in stride.

The show is happening on September 28th.  David Liebe Hart will be performing two sets. One with Adam Papagan making some pretty wild punk music, and the second being of Liebe Hart solo doing a puppet show and his own brand of music.  The show will be supported by Champaign’s hard hitting Dino Bravo and Springfield’s very own champions Obi-Wan Kanblo Mi. The show will be $8 and will start at 7pm.

In Memoriam: Chad Jeffers

Our condolences to Chad Jeffers’ family and friends. Chad was a great guy and a big part of Pound For Pound for many years.  We will miss him greatly.  Chad played a lot of shows here over the years and took lots of pictures of P4P and other local bands.  He loved to make his friends laugh.  He cared a lot about Hardcore and our local Hardcore scene. Rest in peace brother.

Donnie’s Homespun Pizza to Open as New Music Venue in Springfield

The State Journal Register and other sources have been reporting that Donnie’s Homespun Pizza is going to be taking the place of The Pizza Machine in Vinegar Hill Mall this fall, and the space is being remodeled so that larger musical performances can be hosted.  You can read the full article here.  Donnie’s already has one location which operates as a music venue and pizza restaurant in Decatur.  Donnie’s website reports that the location in Springfield will be more than quadruple the size of the Decatur location.

The Springfield Shows facebook page has already given away two of the acts to perform at Donnie’s later this fall.  One is the Marky Ramone of the legendary punk band, the Ramones.  He is to perform Thursday October 4th along with Action Bastard and Soy City Stranglers.  The other act is Reverend Horton Heat on November 21st.  Information on both shows as well as any other Donnie’s shows will be announced later and eventually listed in our shows section.
