11/9 at Black Sheep: Thorr-Axe, Buffalo Witch, Scott Blacula, Witchweed, Øde Vinter

Friday, November 9th will be a metal show that is sure to melt the copper tiles from our ceiling right off.  We will all enter the grim and frosty realm of metal act Øde Vinter from Champaign.  Witchweed from Taylorville features sludge and stoner metal.  Local villains Scott Blacula will also be playing.  Buffalo Witch is coming from the city of doom – Grand Rapids Michigan.  Finally, the wizards of Thorr-Axe will be tearing up the walls with their heavy doom metal.

The show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $6.  You can find a facebook event for the show here.  Also be sure to check out our other upcoming shows over at our shows page.

The Timmys and boon Playing Zombie Prom This Saturday

Calling all zombies.  The Timmys and boon will be playing this upcoming Saturday at Brewhause for an annual “Zombie Prom.”  The show is 21+ but there will also be an all ages zombie walk beforehand at Lincoln park going from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  At the zombie walk there will be a costume contest and more activities.  Find the Springfield Zombie Walk facebook page here.

The Timmys will likely be playing some new songs off of their upcoming full length, which they recently announced will be released at both of this years Hobgob shows.

Boon will be playing one of their last shows with their current drummer Kevin.  They will also be playing the Hobgob show on October 27th at Donnie’s Homespun.  Johnny from boon had this to say:

Our last two shows with best friend/drummer, Kevin, are soon to come. Without him, boon is sure to be a different animal, entirely. He will be missed by a great many people even though he’s only been around a short time. I don’t think anyone will miss him as much as me. Thank you all for such great support.

The Timmys’ Full Length To Be Released at both Hobgobs

Above is a video The Timmys have recently posted of singer Robbie Kording opening a box of The Timmys CDs for the first time.  The CDs are from the brand new full-length album entitled “Sangamon County Minefield.”  Since the CDs are in, both upcoming Hobgoblinspookadelic shows (October 19th and October 27th) will be album release shows for The Timmys!  Hobgob at Black Sheep on October 19th will also be NIL8’s 30 Year Anniversary show and Tiger Tank and Say Something will be playing both of their first shows in Springfield.

Calling All Artists!

We are looking for some new art to go up on our walls and other parts of Black Sheep.  Not just graffiti – this includes especially paintings and murals, but if you are any kind of 3D artist or sculptor then we are interested in instillation pieces as well!  Black Sheep is a community space for everyone and everyone should have the opportunity to add their own touch and artwork to the space.  We do have a few spots and walls in mind that we think need new art pieces more than others.  If interested you can contact us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com.  We can work something out and arrange time for anyone to come in and work outside of shows.

Speaking of new art in Black Sheep, some artists have recently made some new additions. We will save most of it a surprise for all of you who come to the show on Friday, but for now here is a little teaser photo.

The show starts a little early at 6:30 pm and is five dollars.  Bring earplugs.  And be sure to check out our other upcoming shows over on our shows page.

Stage Donations Are Closing In On The Goal

First Off: Thank to every single one of you. All your donations and work hours has made the process for BXS’ renewal a whole lot easier. Our monetary goals for the stage are very close!

Though big reveal for “Stage 1” is on October 19th, our work isn’t quite done. We want to encourage the continuation of the donations. Though the cost of the stage is almost covered, the projects we have planned will be costing. These plans will be announced over the next couple weeks.  If you have any ideas, please email blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com.

To those of you following our “roundtable” meetings this fall- we are not meeting tonight.  Instead we will continue cleaning, painting, and doing other inside projects this afternoon.  Everyone is welcome to come help.  Our next meeting will be one week from today at 7:00 pm.

Another reminder – if you have any equipment inside of Black Sheep right now then you need to get it out.  We are cleaning and clearing out space especially in the front windows and equipment left in the space is getting in our way.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Hank, Foxtail, Like… With Jetpacks, Brandon Carnes

Tonight as we are in the middle of our autumn cleaning we have a mixed genre and fun show for you all.  The band Hank from Champaign is doing a small midwestern tour and Black Sheep is one of their stops.  Then we have a handful of local bands.  Emo and noodley project Foxtail will be playing.  The instrumental video game themed band Like… With Jetpacks will take the floor and so will Brandon Carnes with his solo acoustic set.

The show starts at 7:00 pm and is $5.  You can find a facebook event here.  Be sure to check out all of our other upcoming shows over at our shows page.

Henry Rollins at Hoogland Tonight

Henry Rollins will be performing with his spoken word tonight at the Hoogland Center Downtown.  Tickets can be purchased ahead of time here.  The event starts at 7:30 pm and is $32 in advance and $35 at the door.

You can also find an article the Illinois Times did on Henry Rollins coming to Springfield here.  From the article:

Henry Rollins is no Abe Lincoln.  But that doesn’t stop the 51-year-old punk rock icon, TV personality, author and blogger from incorporating sections of the 16th president’s 1838 speech to the Young Men’s Lyceum in Springfield as part of “Capitalism,” his current spoken word tour of all 50 state capitals, which touches down at the Hoogland Center for the Arts next Thursday, Oct. 11. “I talk a lot about Lincoln, just because he’s a very meaningful American to me,” says Rollins in a telephone interview. “I just like the way the guy thought.”
