SJR: “The Timmys Celebrate New Music With Show”

(Above: The Timmys perform at last Friday’s Hobgob at Black Sheep) The State Journal Register recently talked to Robbie Kording, vocalist of The Timmys about the band’s recent album Sangamon County Minefield. The band is scheduled to play the second all ages Hobgob tomorrow at Donnie’s Homespun with NIL8, The Seething Coast, and boon.  From the article:

For a lot of people, punk rock remains pretty simple: short songs, played fast and loud. The formula has worked since the mid-1990s for Springfield’s the Timmys, who celebrate the release of their new album with a show Saturday.

You can find the full article here.  The Timmys have also launched a new bandcamp website where they are streaming Sangamon County Minefield in its entirety along with a couple of older EPs.  You can find the new bandcamp here, and we also have their bandcamp player streaming Sangamon County Minefield below.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Gardening Not Architecture, Lovecow, Yards, Dream Eater

Tonight at Black Sheep we have a great indie/pop show featuring Wisconsin act Gardening, Not Architecture and Portland post-rock band Yards. Gardening, Not Architecture features Sarah Saturday, member of Van’s Warped Tour and instigator for Earn It Yourself. And as a special surprise we have a couple of bands added to the show at the last minute.  Folk acoustic punk Lovecow will be playing. Also recently added is a brand new band called Dream Eater featuring members of Nathan & The Sheep and Mildred. The show will start at 7:00 pm and is $5.  You can find a facebook event for the show here. You can also check out what other shows we have coming up over on our shows page.

New Band Pages: Say Something

Hey look! We finally got around to adding a new new band page. It is of the brand new hectic and fast punk band Say Something. They played their first show at Hobgob this past Friday. You can find their page here.

You can also check out our growing list of current band in Springfield over at our current bands page.  And if you play in a band here in Springfield that we have not yet set up a page for then get ahold of us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com.

Studio Updates From Elyse

Local metal act Elyse have posted some updates from the studio as they record their first full length. The album is set to be nine to twelve songs with a tentative release date of November 4th. The album is brutal throughout, metalcore with hardstyle synth. The band had this to say:

Just heard the demo track of one of our songs for our album coming out in November, and you guys might not be able to handle it.

It’s going to sound as professional as anything else you would buy in a store.

Elyse also wanted to mention that their bassist has one hand. If you think you can handle Elyse’s live performance you can check them out this Sunday at Black Sheep along with bands Vengeance, Trepidus, and Tormented Faith.

Battalion Finishing Recording for Second EP

Battalion have recently finished recording for their second EP entitled “Resilience.”  The EP still needs to undergo mixing and mastering and will likely be released before the end of the year.  Guitarist Josh Masten had this to say:

Hitting the studio with Battalion is proving to be the best decision ive made this year, can’t wait to show the world.

Some earlier Battalion demos can be heard on the band’s soundcloud page.

10-21 Black Sheep Roundtable Meeting Recap

Above: A Magic Tournament was held at Black Sheep in the beginning of October

Are you looking to get more involved in the Black Sheep community and our space? Then coming to the bi-weekly Black Sheep roundtable meetings would be a good way to start! Our last meeting was on Sunday and here are a few things we touched up on:

  • Hobgob 2012 was a huge success and we are all excited for shows and events to come in our space!
  • We agreed it would be a good idea to invest in Black Sheep stickers to be available for free at shows. A few hundred have been already been ordered.
  • There are still a few areas in our space that need to be painted and cleaned before the winter.
  • We need more new art on our walls! If you are an artist and are interested in doing any murals or art installations then get ahold of us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com
  • A big holiday show is in the works as well as some other great winter events.
  • There are also plans to start a wall of fliers of past Black Sheep shows. Start digging up those old show fliers.

Sunday will not be the last roundtable meeting!  If you are interested in participating in our next meeting it will be Sunday, November 4th at 7:00 pm.

Pictures From Donnie’s Homespun

We have acquired a few more pictures from Springfield’s newest music venue, Donnie’s Homespun.  You can find some of those photos below, including the bands The Giving Tree and Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg.

More photos can be seen in the “Springfield shows” set on our flickr account.  If you have not been inside the newly remodeled Pizza Machine, we encourage you to go to get the full experience.  Photos of the bands on stage do not capture the full magic going on at Donnie’s Homespun.  Some notable shows coming up at Donnie’s Include the all ages Hobgoblinspookadelic show with NIL8 on Saturday, The Wailers on November 11th, and Reverend Horton Heat on November 28th.  We have also recently updated our Springfield shows page to include all of Donnie’s upcoming shows so be sure to check that out.
