Website Updates

Happy Monday, everyone. We have made a few small updates to our website and webstore recently.

The first is that we finally have a donate button! The donation jar is always set up inside Black Sheep, but if you want to donate towards our cause at any time you can now do it through paypal. The donate button is located on the right —-> if you are on our home page.

If you are on our home page, you may have also noticed that we added a couple of things to the side bar. There is a calendar so you can go back to any day and see the news posts for that day. Then there is also a “top posts and pages” feature that shows the most popular posts and pages in the past 48 hours.

In our store we have added some hand screen printed posters from the November 3rd show for $3. They are available at shows and will be up in our webstore shortly. We have also made the regular posters $1. What a deal!

Black Sheep Roundtable Meeting Tonight

Along with the announcement of the new Black Sheep radio show earlier this weekend, we requested some help gathering music from bands yesterday. With revolution winter upon us we need to organize and discuss what we need to do to properly launch our new radio show and stay on top of things this winter.

We will be meeting at 7:00 pm tonight (at Black Sheep) to discuss the new radio show and other things. Come if you have any ideas or even if you just want to sit and listen. Anyone is welcome to join.

Black Sheep Radio Show: We Need Music!!

Yesterday we announced that we will be hosting a new radio show on WQNA sometime in the near future.

Guess what. Before we can launch the new radio show we need to collect enough music from local bands to air! If you play in a band or have in the past and have recorded music then we need you! Here are a couple of things you can do to help us.

– send mp3s or links to downloadable music to blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com
– drop of CDs of your music at Black Sheep during any show

And if you want to be super helpful in helping us collect local music, let us know which of your songs are and are not radio friendly. We want to build an archive of all the local music we can get, and it will be helpful to know which songs we can play on the radio right away and which will need some editing later on.

The sooner we get enough music the sooner we can launch the new Black Sheep radio show! Thank you for your help!

Also, we will be having a roundtable meeting tomorrow (Sunday) at 7:00 pm to discuss the radio show and other things. Anyone is invited to come.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Kickstart, Hannah Joy, Sammy & The Punk

Tonight we have a special acoustic show to get us all in the mood of Thanksgiving. It’s also our last show for a couple of weeks so there’s even more reason to come out! Playing tonight will be an acoustic version of local pop punk act Kickstart. Joining them will be Hannah Joy and Sammy and the Punk (who will also be playing acoustic).

The show starts at 7:00 pm and is $5. You can also check out what other shows we have coming up at Black Sheep at our shows page.

Introducing The Black Sheep Radio Show

After meeting with the director of WQNA 88.3 fm we are VERY excited to announce that Black Sheep will be hosting our very own radio show sometime in the near future on WQNA.

The focus of the show will be local music. Some of the kinks are still being worked out, but we do know that we will be featuring band interviews, live recordings of shows, and much more. There is some very exciting stuff in store for us in the future. We will keep you all updated on the show, and let you know when it will be aired when we can.

And now a message from Kevin:

Like times in the past with Black Sheep when an opportunity arises for us to do something new, we do it. If you wait too long to act nothing will happen. We are excited to do something completley new for us and that is radio. We are excited to work with WQNA and we are excited for the future. DIY till’ we die.

-Kevin

Tonight at Black Sheep: End Times Trio, Forget The Times, Secular Edict, Ylem, Groke

Tonight at Black Sheep things are going to get very loud and noisy. Starting things off right at 6:30 pm is End Times Trio, making their return to Black Sheep and playing wild freeform jazz. Then we have Secular Edict, a noise project from Champaign. Then we have a brand new Springfield noise project called “Ylem” featuring Ishmael Holmes. We have no idea what to expect. Coming all the way from Michigan tonight to play noise for us is Forget The Times. And finally we have Groke, who are on tour all the way from Providence, Rhode Island. Wow!

The show starts at 6:30 pm and is $5. Bring ear plugs. You can find a facebook event for the show here. And also be sure to check out what other shows we have coming up over on our shows page.

Third Thursday Art Show To Be Held Thursday at Donnie’s

The monthly Third Thursday Art Show will be held on Thursday at Donnie’s Homespun Pizza. The show will go on from 6:00 to 11:00 pm and is all ages. Musical acts playing include Hot Bag O’ Donuts, William Richards, James Ackerman, Yoshi, and the English Chambers Band. Of course aside from the music there will be plenty of art. You can find a facebook event here.

Groke, Ylem added to Friday’s Show at Black Sheep

Great news everyone: we have a few updates on the upcoming Black Sheep noise show this Friday. Providence, RI’s Groke has been added to the End Times Trio +1, Forget The Times, and Secular Edict show on November 16th. Groke, a 2 piece sludge-y crust band, is currently on a tour of the Midwest. This show has just got 100% sludgier, louder, crustier, and 2 piece-ier.

Also added is a new Springfield based project called “Ylem” featuring Ishmael Holmes.  They will be playing their first show, so this is not one to miss.

Also don’t forget that this show will be starting right at 6:30 pm sharp with opening freestyle jazz act End Times Trio.
