Featured Photos: New Year’s Eve Show at Harm House

Today we bring you a fresh batch of photos from a Springfield house show that happened outside of Black Sheep. If you were at the show at the Harm House this New Year’s Eve you know a crazy time was had by all, and you might also be recovering from a cold. Bands that played included Mother Leopard, a new band called Soap Scum?, Estates, Mildred, and there was also an Our Lady/Scott Blacula battle set! The battle set was very intense and resulted in Scott Blacula winning the battle over shared guitarist Nick Demarco.

You can see a few of the photos below. To see all of the photos from the show that night head over to our flickr page and click on the set “Harm House New Year’s Show.”

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: The Stifs

stifs-front-cover

Springfield-based music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored has released a 1992 demo from the old legendary Springfield band The Stifs. Head here to check out the full post and download the demo for free.

These dudes pretty much embody what Springfield rock sounded like in 1992.  I heard folks talking about them plenty as I got more involved in the local music scene, but whenever I asked about recordings, I usually got a sigh and the whole, “I don’t know man…they put out one tape that I know of, but I lost my copy YEARS ago.  Man…I’d LOVE to hear those songs again!”  Well, thanks to some folks who were smart enough to put these tunes into digital form before the tape went to complete shit, here they are in all their glory!!

Anthony also gave a nice closing message for 2012/2013:

…and as 2012 draws to a close, thank you again one and all for all of your support and kind words on this blog during the year!  2012 was a pretty exciting year for Springfield music.  We’ve had new bands pop up, new venues, improved venues, a LONG overdue compilation CD (THANK YOU ROBBIE!!) and what I feel is a town that is becoming more conscious of it’s own local talent!  We also pulled in some great national acts as well with respectable support!!  VERY exciting and encouraging!!  I see people doing more, becoming more active and an overall increased appreciation for local music which makes me very proud!  Keep up the good work, Springfield!!  Looking forward to an amazing 2013 with you all!!
