We have also been told that there will be some sort of contest being held on the radio show where the winner will receive one free ticket to Hobgob 2013! You will have to listen to find out what that is all about.

Photos: Black Sheep Fest 2008

Today we are taking a step back into the past. Five years into the past to be exact. Our team of top archeologists have helped us uncover a batch of photos from the very first Black Sheep Fest, which was help on July 25th, 26th, and 27th in 2008. Yes, it was also the only Black Sheep Fest to span the course of three days. The photos we are showing you today are of a few bands who played the last two days of the fest. You can see the flier with all of the bands and a few photos below. For the complete batch of photos, head over to our Black Sheep Fest 2008 flickr set. For photos from our most recent Black Sheep Fest, check out our Black Sheep Fest 2013 flickr set. Extra special thanks to photographer Devin Softley who took the photos five years ago!

Tonight there’s this show happening at Black Sheep! This show is going to be a great indie/rock/acoustic show. Tonight is also special because it is the return of the band Mutts from Chicago. They played at Black Sheep back in May and you might remember them as the band that had that big old piano up on stage with them. Also playing this show and bringing the feel-good rock is local band Big Storm featuring local celebrity and Black Sheep Radio host Brandon Carnes. Opening the show up will be Tim Williams of Our Lady. Tim will be doing an acoustic set for us.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm tonight and it’s only $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here, and you should also take a minute to check out what other shows are coming up at Black Sheep by looking at our shows page.

9-21 Roundtable RECAP

glamglueOn Saturday a few of us met for our Black Sheep roundtable meeting. We talked about some stuff and then went around town and hung up some upcoming show fliers. Here are some of the things that were done/discussed:

– We now have fliers for our radio show! Plenty have been hung up around town.
– More people need to come to roundtable and street team meetings. We could really use more help in a lot of areas, and you can help us!
– Plans for our new heating and cooling system inside of Black Sheep were discussed. We are still looking for leads to electricians and roofing contractors so get at us!

Don’t worry, that was not the last meeting that we will be having. You can make it to the next one on Saturday, October 5th at 1:00 pm. Everyone and anyone is welcomed to come to these meetings! And if you can’t make it to that, there are always things you can do to help out and volunteer around Black Sheep! Check out our get involved page for more info on that.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Boom Boom Kid, Nephrons, War Magic, Strong Power

boomboomTonight’s going to be a fun night! That is because there is this really good show happening at Black Sheep. Tonight features the band Boom Boom Kid all the way from Argentina. They play punk music and are going to show us a good time. Check out one of their live videos below. We also have Nephrons, the local pop punk band that recently put out a really good record. A newer addition to the show and playing their second show at Black Sheep is War Magic, the new two-piece dreamy folk project. To top all of that off we have another band that will be playing their very first show. They are called Strong Power, and we are not sure what to expect from them. Come to the show and find out!

The show tonight starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also don’t forget to check out what shows we have coming up at Black Sheep on our shows page!

Park Launches Updated Webstore, Plan Chicago Show and EP

itwontsnowphoto2_original

It looks like recently reunited Springfield indie/rock band Park have been keeping busy writing new material and they will finally be entering the studio tomorrow. From the band’s facebook page:

September 23rd will mark the first day we have been in the studio since 2006. We’re working on a three song EP – details regarding the recordings will come soon. Video updates will come each week in October, so be sure to keep checking back!

Very cool. Park announced their reunion on the Black Sheep radio earlier this past spring and they have played a few shows since. Park has also continued their come-back with a recently announced show in Chicago on November 30th. The show will be at Reggie’s in Chicago and more information on that can be found here.

Park also have recently updated their webstore, where you can find the band’s three full-length albums on vinyl along with plenty of other goodies. Check out the new webstore right here.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Brandon Carnes, Good Times, Montagh, Jessica Knight

rightLadies and gentleman, we’re going to have an uplifting show for you tonight! Despite what the flier says, Lovecow will not be playing but here is who will be! Starting us off will be the local and infamous Brandon Carnes with some awesome acoustic jams. Brandon is the frontman of the mighty and charismatic Big Storm and has played in many other bands, one being The Timmy’s. Both he and the lovely Jessica Knight, who is performing tonight also, are in the new band Looming which played their first set last night! Jessica Knight will also be performing an acoustic set this evening as well, so check them both out because they will have marvellous things to offer to us. Also playing tonight will be the local and well-loved Montagh! They make music that “makes you feel stuff” and their band interests are coffee and outkast, so come out and hear them play some awesome songs and hopefully tell some really bad jokes. Tonight we will also be hosting the smooth and catchy folk set Good Times, which is composed of Clint Kesinger. Coming from St. Louis, Good Times is a compilation of the tales of life experiences through the lense of introspection. It’s going to be rad!

So come out tonight and check out this mighty mellow and feel-good show, and you can check out the facebook event right here. The show starts right at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Feel free to check out our upcoming shows because we are going to have A LOT this coming week, so don’t miss out!

Here’s to Good Times!

Tonight is going to be a great kick off to this long run of shows! We have local punk band The Timmys headlining the bill. Tonight will also be the very first show for the brand new Springfield band Looming! We streamed their brand new EP on our site earlier this week. Are you a fan of ska music? Do you like to skank?
