Tonight at Black Sheep: Hometown Heavyweights, Old Fox Road, Ashland, In Exile, Capys, RDNT, Austin Connelly

okay

Tonight’s going to be a big rad show. We’re going to be featuring Hometown Heavyweights as our headliner. They’re going to be playing some pop-punk tunes for us tonight, perhaps mixed in with some ambient and/or hardcore stuff. Come check them out, they’ve never headlined a show before so bring some support! We’ll also be featuring Ashland, which is an energetic alternative pop-punk band that played Black Sheep back in June. If you didn’t get to see them then, come check their stuff out tonight! While they set up, check out Old Fox Road and their acoustic jams!

Another band playing tonight is called In Exile. They’re going to be bringing us some rock tunes all the way from Chicago, so check them out and stick around! Capys (Kathys) will be playing tonight too and they’ll be producing some instrumental glory to change the pace up a little bit. After them, pull up your britches and get ready for the local punkers in RDNT! They always provide an amusing show and a good set. Austin Connelly of Wir Konnen and Montagh will also be giving us some acoustic jams tonight, so come out to the Black Sheep Cafe at 7 pm and pay only $5 to see all of this! Here’s the facebook event, and make sure to check out the other shows coming up in the spooky days to come. Here’s a taste of what tonight will bring!

Updates on New Mother Leopard Material

1004847_609838515723327_1115787664_nEarlier this fall we told you that Springfield chaotic punk/hardcore band Mother Leopard is working on new material with their new lineup. Earlier this week the band posted updates from their facebook page, saying the new album is to be titled Abandoned Lights. From Mother Leopard’s facebook:

We are several sessions in on writing our new record, tentatively titled “Abandoned Lights”. I am very excited because we have let go of the preconceptions and expectations and I am truly drawing from my inner inspirations for these songs. We look forward to a midwinter release. Sorry we won’t be playing any shows while we are writing throughout October. Have a wonderful fall!
-Benny

So far Mother Leopard has released one demo in 2011 with a previous lineup. The band does not have any shows lined up right now, but we plan on posting updates on the band’s new record.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Must Build Jacuzzi, Triple Stitch, Good Times, Joshua Powell

1383003_10152467395001515_1163961709_n
Here’s the show we’ve got going on tonight! We’re featuring Triple Stitch, who will bring us some hardcore rock n’ roll tunes all the way from Minnesota. Another band we’ve got is the ever entertaining Must Build Jacuzzi, which is a ska-core band from Peoria, so make sure to check them out. Someone else you’ll be able to hear is Clint Kesinger, who’ll be coming from St. Louis to bring us Good Times this evening. He played the September 22 show, so you’ll be able to see him perform if you weren’t able to make that one. He has some rad, loungey, indie-folk tunes to play for us and he has a free EP up for download. Check his stuff out and make sure to catch his set tonight, along with all the others! The fourth set we’ll feature tonight is the super swell and rusty folk-rock of Joshua Powell. This is the brand of folk rock that brings an old time feel to the room, which is not common so check it out at this show tonight!

It’s going to be at 7pm and will cost you $5 so come out to the Black Sheep and hear the rad jams. Here’s the facebook event and make sure to check out the other shows coming up in the weeks to come! Here’s the Good Times EP for your listening pleasure.

Popeye’s Barbecue Wall To Get New Mural

popeyeIt’s always cool to see new things and changes happening in the South Town Neighborhood that Black Sheep is a part of. Some of you may have noticed the beginnings of a new mural that is being painted on the East wall of Clay’s Popeye’s Barbecue located on 11th Street East of Black Sheep. What we have pictured right now is just the beginning to a new art piece. We have been told that some of the artists involved with this new piece were also responsible for the long mural that was recently put in behind the D & J Cafe on Laurel Street. Be on the lookout for some more photos once the mural is complete!

Our Lady Recording

tumblr_mu9ajrHLOF1qi42tvo1_500 1375936_678241838872378_953489570_nSpringfield emo/rock band Our Lady has been a very busy band in the past year, and we have an update on what they’ve been doing (as you can see by the posted photos of their recording session in the studio above). After the band pushed back plans for touring through most of August, they decided to start working on recording new material and planning their next releases. Our Lady released their Vessels 7″ through Mind Over Matter Records earlier this year and also “Dawning” on cassette through Turn of The Century Records. Rumor has it there will be updated versions of old songs and maybe even another one added on to Dawning thanks to this recent recording session, so make sure to check out their new and perfected releases!

Our Lady will be playing in Springfield next on November 5th at Black Sheep along with Two Knights, Wir Konnen, and Jessica Knight. Make sure to check that show out, hear Our Lady’s new stuff, get a fresh Wir Konnen tape and listen to the good show.
