Montagh at Dumb on 2/28 (Video)

The show on the 28th was really cool, being inside of Dumb Records, and full of acoustic sets. Well, someone (someone awesome) decided to record a piece of Montagh‘s set, and the result was really awesome! Even better, someone posted the video onto Youtube, so we can all stare at its wonderfully shot video, and listen to Montagh. Montagh is a wonderful folk punk band from Springfield (If you haven’t heard them before, make sure to do so, and watch this video!). The chill video is below!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Runaway Brother, The Ground Is Lava, Slam Dinner, Looming

14496_10202778227394855_1349617247_nTonight we have a really good Wednesday night show going on! It will definitely be worth going to. We have the band Runaway Brother coming from Ohio. They will be out on tour with the band The Ground Is Lava also from Ohio. You can find some of The Ground Is Lava’s music streaming below. This show will also feature a newer band from Champaign called Slam Dinner. They feature one member of Springfield hard rock band Soap Scum. The special icing on top of the cake is that Looming will also be playing this show. This will also be the cassette release show for the Looming EP, being rereleased on cassette by Springfield label Blackbox Records.

This show will begin at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here if that’s your thing. Can’t make it to this show? Check out our long list of other shows coming up on our shows page.

April 14th at Black Sheep: King Of Prussia, Case Conrad, Meredosia, Full Chroma

414Look at this! We have a great show coming up in the wonderful month of April. This time we have King Of Prussia (Kindercare Records) and Sweden’s own Case Conrad. This show brings the dangerously 90s pop sounds of King Of Prussia (not real kings, I asked) and Case Conrad’s take dream pop, and gets all mixed up with locals Meredosia and Full Chroma.

The show will be starting at 7pm and will cost $5. You can find more info for the show on it’s Facebook Event Page. Looking for more shows to check out? Here’s the link!

Los Injectors Reunion

los injectorsLadies, gents and its, it looks like the local psycho/rockabilly band Los Injectors is reuniting after being apart for some time. Originally, they were founded in 1999 and now this trio is BACK to bring us more hard rock tunes (with an upright bass included). So check out one of their videos here and stay tuned for possible shows they may have coming up within the confines of the many venues we have here in Springfield. (To see other springfield shows happening, check this page out too).

Blackbox Records Rereleasing Looming EP on Cassette

1904267_549768231788696_244706319_nIt looks like new Springfield cassette label Blackbox Records have announced plans to rerelease the Looming EP previously released last year on CD by other Springfield label Patch Records. Along with the announcement Blackbox Records released a neat little music video type thing which you can find below. The cassette will be out at the show at Black Sheep on this Wednesday March 12th, which Looming will be playing. You can find more info on that show right here. The tape can also be pre-ordered on the Blackbox storenvy right here. You can also stream the Looming EP and download it for free right here.

April 18th at Black Sheep: Jag, Shitstorm, Slow Children, Mouth Sex, Soap Scum

aprilCheckit, we’ve got a cool show coming up on Friday, April 18th! JAG will be playing first, and if you didn’t hear their grungy punk tunes at last nights show then this will be another chance for you to hear this newly emerged local band. Shitstorm from St. Louis will be coming around on this evening as well, and his catchy satan punk tunes are sure to please so come check him out. Also playing this evening will be Slow Children coming all the way from California. Their fervent and hardcore jams will bring a cool facet to the genres being presented this evening. Following Slow Children will be the dirty buggers in Mouthsex. Their sets are always full of grit, just how we like it, so stick around for them and of course for Soap Scum. That band is a little trashy but we always make do so come out for this show because it will be swell!

It will be happening at around 7pm. Bring $5, check out the cool record store right next to our venue and keep your eyes open for other shows we have coming up that catch your fancy!

WUIS: “War Magic Plays Unique Neo-Folk”

warmagicLocal news outlet WUIS have recently done a segment on Springfield folk band War Magic as a part of their ongoing series focusing on bands local to Springfield. The segment is entitled “Local Group War Magic Plays Unique Neo-Folk.” You can find the segment along with a player for the 9-minute long interview and live recording right here.

WUIS has also done segments on local projects Epsom and Mulligan Munro. WUIS also recently did a piece on the recently opened Dumb Records. You can find that one right here.

The Asylum Reunion May 24th

02It looks like some type of reunion for old Springfield all ages music venue and coffeehouse The Asylum is being planned for May of this year. The Asylum was around near the intersection of Wabash and MacArthur and operated as a music venue/coffee shop from 1998-2001. You can check out a photo collage video for the old venue below. Organizers for the reunion are asking for donations to make the event possible on Saturday, May 24th. Proceeds will also go towards the St. Jude Children Hospital.

We have made plans for a large reunion that will take place at the VFW on Old Jacksonville Rd, and will feature food, drinks, and live bands; all to help everyone reconnect and revisit the people that helped inform and enrich our lives. We have set up a website, http://www.asylumreunion.com , where donations can be made towards making this reunion a success. There is a clear count of individual donations, when they were made, and by whom they are made. All proceeds will go directly towards the reunion, as the only interest for the Planning Committee is that we all have an amazing reunion and maybe re-live some old times. Any remaining money will then be given as a gift to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in the name of the Asylum Coffeeshop. Interested volunteers who would like to contribute time or materials in lieu of donations can contact the previously mentioned individuals listed above or send us an email.

The entire entry for The Asylum reunion can be seen on the Some Things Can’t Be Ignored blog right here. If you would like to contribute to the cause you can head over to asylumreunion.com. More info on bands and festivities will be posted later on once more is known about the reunion.
