May 22nd at Black Sheep: RDNT, Epsom, Lifer, Carnivores At Grace, The Butts

Today we are bringing you a show announcement for this show happening about two months from now on Thursday, May 22nd (hopefully there’s no snow on the ground then). For this show we have the return of Carnivores At Grace from Chicago. They played at Black Sheep last month along with Ultra Bide, which was a really fun show. Carnivores of Grace will be coming around this time on tour with Lifer, a post-hardcore band from Florida. You can check out a few of Lifers tunes on the player embedded below. This show will also a feature a separate touring band, and that is the punk rock legends The Butts, who are formerly from Carlinville, Illinois and used to play here frequently. We also have a few local bands. There will be a performance by the weird-rock band Epsom which will sure to get you moving. Then we have the younger punks RDNT that will be sure to also rowdy up the crowd.

The record elves have been getting ready big time for Record Store Day at Dumb Records happening next month. That means all they are starting to stock the record store to the brim with solid new and used vinyl, CDs, and cassettes. If you go into Dumb Records this week you might also see a few changes to the inside of the space. Dumb Records is open Tuesday (today) from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Today we are bringing you a brand new track from a brand new Springfield project going by the name of “MUCK///\\\FOUNTAIN.” You think that that is the most ridiculous band name that you’ve ever heard? Well think again! MUCK///\\\FOUNTAIN is a brand new solo ambient project of Brandon Carnes of Looming, The Timmys, Tiger Tank, Big Storm, and more. You can find the new 8-minute long track titled “///\\\” streaming below or you can also find it right here on the band’s bandcamp and available for download for $1.

MUCK///\\\MOUNTAIN will be playing their very first show during Record Store Day at Black Sheep and Dumb Records on Saturday, April 19th. You can find more info for that event, which was announced yesterday, right here.

May 19th at Black Sheep: Flesh Born, Gas Up Yr Hearse, Yusuke, I’m Dead Inside

Today we are bringing you a show announcement for Monday, May 19th. If you are a fan of screamo music then this is the show for you. If not, then this is the show for you anyways. We have the band Flesh Born coming from Denton, Texas for this show. Flesh Born features a member of the Texas band Two Knights who also recently played at Black Sheep. Also on this show is Gas Up Yr Hearse! from Bloomington/Normal, Illinois. The last time they played at Black Sheep was for the first Dumb Fest last summer. Then we have another Dumb Fest band Yusuke coming from Peoria/Bloomington, Illinois. Both of those bands play fast screamo. To top this show off we have the first show of a brand new Springfield screamo band called I’m Dead Inside. Make sure to get there early to find out what they are all about.

April 19th at Dumb Records and Black Sheep: Record Store Day

Hey look! It looks like we have this big and tasty treat coming for you all next month. The weather is getting warmer and on Saturday, April 19th we will be hosting a big all-day event at Black Sheep and Dumb Records for Record Store Day. For this we will be having THREE separate shows- one at 1:00 pm inside Black Sheep, one at 3:00 pm inside of Dumb Records, and one inside 7:00 pm inside of Black Sheep. WOW. WOW! Did you get all of that? That was a lot to take in, we know. So at 1:00 pm there will be a free three-band show inside of Black Sheep. Then at 3:00 pm there will be another free acoustic show inside of Dumb Records. THEN at 7:00 pm there will be a $5 regular show inside of Black Sheep featuring Spoonboy, an act that will be on tour from Washington DC. You can check out some of Spoonboy’s music below. This will also be the very first show for a brand new Springfield project going by the name “Fuck///\\\Mountain.” We have been told that this is a new solo project featuring one of the members of Looming and Big Storm. This show will ALSO be the cassette release show for Springfield punk band Say Something. That’s a lot of stuff.

We almost forgot to mention that everything inside of Dumb Records will be 10% off during record store day! We also might have a few special items featured in store for this day for all of you record collectors. There also might be a few slight changes to the inside of the store and you may get to see even more new and used CDs/cassettes/vinyl up on the shelfs in time for Record Store Day.

Today is Friday. Today on The Black Sheep Radio Show we have TWO very special guest bands. It’s going to be wild. Both bands in on today’s episode will also be playing Black Sheep at the show tonight. The first guest is weird-rock band Epsom. They will be talking to us about the band’s formation as well as things they are currently working on. Next up is the two-piece synthpop project The Luzhin Defense. They will also be joining us as guests for the first time on our show. Both of these bands will be playing the show tonight at Black Sheep along with Honey Suck, The Half-Truths, and The Seething Coast.

Get ready for this mega five-band show happening tonight at Black Sheep. It’s going to be full of different types of music of all shapes and sizes. We are not sure on the band order tonight so just get there on time and stick around for all of the bands, okay? Tonight we have The Seething Coast, the Springfield punk band that released two full length albums last year. You can find their music streaming on the player embedded below. The touring band on this show is The Half Truths from Denton, Texas. They play pop punk and are big fans of Springfield. This show will also feature weirdo-shock punk rock band Epsom, who will be performing for the second time at Black Sheep. Then we have the electronic/synthpop band The Luzhin Defense spicing up the night for us. Also this show will feature a performance by new Springfield spoken word type project Honey Suck.

SOHO Attempts To Break Record For “World’s Largest Rock Band”

We are all about breaking records here in Springfield. It looks like on Saturday June 7th this year SOHO Music Festival Downtown will be attempting to break a world record for the world’s largest rock band! From SOHO’s website:

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the SOHO Music Festival, SOHO will be undertaking the monumental challenge of attempting to break a world record at this year’s festival by creating The World’s Largest Rock Band!

Every year SOHO receives more than 80 band submissions to perform, and while we would gladly showcase all who wish to contribute, our space is limited. Therefore, in an effort to further our commitment in bringing the entirety of local musicians together, we are accepting the challenge of breaking the current record during SOHO10.

We’re looking for 600+ musicians to perform a three song set at
2 p.m. Saturday, June 7. Songs will be determined at a later date (although rumor has it the Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” is a strong contender to close the set!)

If you are interested in being one of those 600+ musicians in the world’s largest band you can register with a $5 entry fee that comes with admission to the SOHO Music Festival. Find info on registration right here. SOHO Music Festival will be celebrating its tenth year this year on Friday June 6th and Saturday June 7th downtown. The lineup of bands for this year’s festival will be announced sometime in April.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Souls, Loses the Mighty, Kharybidis, John Wayne Knockout Punch

It’s Thursday! That’s not stopping us from having a brutal show at Black Sheep, it only fuels our desires. So tonight, Souls will be coming around all the way from South Dakota to entice and electrify us with blackened hardcore punk. Loses the Mighty will be playing as well, and their hardcore, ambient tunes are sure to be super heartfelt as usual so come check them out too. Kharybidis will coming around as well to technically and metallically annihilate us during their set. John Wayne Knockout Punch will be playing tonight as well, so come out to see what they’re all about. Ladies, gents and its, get ready to mosh your worries away.
