As we are still recovering from Dumb Fest 2 (which was the most bands we’ve ever had play at South Town in one event), the photos and videos are starting to roll in of the incredible weekend. Pictured above is a photo of Black Panties playing day 2 by Franklin Wallace. Today we are bringing you a few videos from Dumb Fest 2. Below you can find videos from the sets of Our Lady, Easter, Soap Scum, and The Valenteens. For more Black Sheep videos and other videos from Dumb Fest, feel free to check out the DIY Springfield youtube channel. Stay tuned later this week for another post featuring some of the photos from Dumb Fest.
Tonight at Black Sheep: Our Lady, Two Knights, Wilt Candy
It’s a Monday night and we’ve got the perfect short and sweet three band show to relieve you all of your Monday night blues. We have Springfield’s favorite sad-rock/hardcore band Our Lady taking the stage for the first time since Dumb Fest 2. That will be great. We also have the return of everyone’s favorite two-piece band from Texas, Two Knights. They are great. Then to top that off we have another performance by Springfield’s favorite two-piece folk project- Wilt Candy.
You can catch all of that happening tonight starting at 7:00 pm and for a low price of $5. Find a facebook event for the show tonight right here. Also check out our shows page where you can see what other shows are happening soon.
July 10th at Dumb Records: Adam Balbo, Borealis, Austin Connelly, Like… With Jetpacks
It’s time to announce another smashing show at Dumb Records, this time happening on Thursday, July 10th. This show is going to be mostly acoustic, but don’t be surprised when you find a few amps and a little bit of rock n’ roll at the show. This show will feature Adam Balbo from Oakland, California. Adam plays some folky garage pop type stuff that you can find streaming below. Also on this show is a rare performance by Springfield noise/ambient project Borealis featuring Mario Cannamela of Soap Scum and I’m Dead Inside. You know that no Dumb Records show is complete without a solo acoustic performance by Austin Connelly, which will happen again at this show. Then to top it off we have another very rare performance by Springfield video game themed instrumental rock band Like… With Jetpacks!
This show is kicking off at 7:00 pm. Bring $5 for the touring act. You can find a facebook event for this right here. Also check out our shows page for a list of all events coming up at Black Sheep and Dumb Records.

Insomniac Folklore, Kat Jones Added To Harm House Show On July 1st
Looks like the show happening Tuesday, July 1st at The Harm House in about ten days is shaping up to be one of the bigger Springfield acoustic shows of this summer! The House recently announced that two additional acts have been added to the show. This includes folk project Insomniac Folklore from Portland, Oregon and also Kat Jones from Portland. Insomniac Folklore is no stranger to Springfield- they have played at Black Sheep before and are even playing The Horse Show today (maybe even right as you are reading this)! SJ-R: “The Horse Show Returns”
Springfield newspaper The State Journal Register has recently featured an article on The Horse Show. The Horse Show is a music festival happening tomorrow (Saturday) in Pawnee, Illinois (just outside of Springfield) at The Refuge Ranch. The fest is being put on by Springfield basement venue The Radon Lounge. Here’s a chunk of the article:
The Soil & the Sun, which played at The Radon Lounge in Springfield last year, headlines the day-long festival that includes 22 acts offering everything from electronica to ska to hip-hop spread over two stages.
The setting is again the Refuge Ranch, a nonprofit organization just outside Pawnee that pairs at-risk children and families with horses that have been rescued from abuse and neglect in a mentoring horsemanship program.
The day takes on a festival atmosphere, says Jeff Black, owner and operator of The Radon Lounge, with food, artisan tables, games such as “mondo croquet” and music.
The Soil & the Sun, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., has received national attention from National Public Radio, calling it one of 100 “artists to discover” at 2013’s SXSW Festival, and from Paste magazine, which noted that the band sported elements akin to Fleet Foxes.
You can find the rest of that article in Wednesday’s copy of The State Journal Register or also online right here. If you are still wondering what The Horse Show is all about, you might want to take a look at The Radon Lounge’s Horse Show “Preview” where they talk about all of the acts and activities you will be able to find there. Some familiar acts to Black Sheep playing The Horse Show are Soap Scum, Meredosia, Full Chroma, and more.
July 9th at Black Sheep: The Oswalds, Display Case, Panzys
It’s time for another July show announcement. On Wednesday, July 9th we will be having a show for the band Display Case from Des Moines, Iowa. What kind of a band name is that? Well, we don’t know. But if you want you can check out one of the band’s live videos at the very bottom of this post. If you like what you hear maybe you will come to the show. Also playing this one is Springfield three-piece punk band The Oswalds. Come early and catch the third band on the bill- Panzys. Punk rock.
This show will be another 7:00 pm $5 show. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Don’t forget to also check out our shows page for a look at a lot of other great stuff coming up at Black Sheep.
