Today is going to be an exciting one at South Town record store Dumb Records. The store opens at 3:00 pm today and there will be a great acoustic show happening at 7:00 pm. There are also a number of new arrivals this week, and we are posting that list later on this site today. Tonight at the acoustic show you can expect a solo acoustic performance by Brandon Carnes, which we have not seen in a while at Black Sheep. You can also expect to see a solo acoustic performance by Jess Knight, who plays in the band Looming with Brandon. Then we have two touring acoustic acts. Both of them performed at Black Sheep back in May of 2013. Those are Mitch The Champ and Garrett Walters, both from Plan-It-X Records. You can stream some music from Mitch The Champ below. Opening things up we have another rare solo acoustic set from Mario Cannamela from I’m Dead Inside and Soap Scum.

The show tonight kicks off inside Dumb Records at 7:00 pm and we are asking for $5 to support the touring acts. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Be sure to also check out our shows page for a look at all of the other shows coming up at Black Sheep and Dumb Records (there are a lot).

Dumb Fest 2 Coverage In Symphonic Magazine and Punktastic

GAS_RAG

Dumb Fest 2 may have been over one month ago already, but the rest of the internet is not about to be done talking about how great of a time it was. Thanks to Dumb Fest 2 photographers Priten Vora and Franklin Wallace, photos of Dumb Fest 2 got out there and the Springfield-based punk festival is being noticed in a few online publications.

Online based music magazine Symphonic Magazine had a few pages dedicated to the fest in the most recent issue. You can find issue 10 of Symphonic Magazine right here, and be sure to skip ahead to pages 16-17 where you can read a write-up of Dumb Fest 2 and also find a few photos. From the write-up (by Priten):

Dumb Fest serves as an eye-opening reminder about why it’s so crucial to keep supporting local music scenes. Small, local shows and festivals have a very unique atmosphere about them. They are far more intimate than most concerts, and they have an easygoing freedom about them that is extremely rare to see at larger festivals and venues. There are no security guards, no barriers, and no real restrictions. The organizers choose to trust people to regulate themselves, and the local community responds by not letting them down. Dumb Fest hits a sweet spot when it combines the efficiency needed to run events like this with the ability to give showgoers the sense of free dome to do whatever they want, and I look forward to attending more for many years to come.

Aside from Symphonic Magazine, popular punk and indie photo site Punktastic also featured a gallery of photos taken by Franklin Wallace of Dumb Fest 2. If you like the photo pictured above, you might want to check the rest of them out right here. We are also constantly adding to our Dumb Fest 2 photo album on flickr. You can find that album right here. Don’t forget that we are also hosting Black Sheep Fest this Saturday.

There will be another performance by Springfield punk/hardcore band Soap Scum. Aside from those bands, we have the jangly two-piece band Mystery Gift. Things will open up by another rare performance from Springfield emo project Wir Können.

The show tonight is at 7:00 pm and admission is $5 or whatever donation you are willing to give to the cause. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at everything coming up at Black Sheep and Dumb Records.

Did you know that Donnie’s Homespun also has a cover show will a killer lineup of local bands coming up this Friday (August 25th)? Right now we only know the local bands participating! Here is that list:

The Timmys
Josh Catalano & The Dirty Thoughts
The Blue G’s
Tom Irwin
Los Injectors
Looming
Blue Ribbon Revival

Sounds like a pretty great lineup of local bands. The seven acts playing will kick off right at 8:30 pm. According to the Donnie’s Homespun calendar and website, this event will be ages 18 plus, and admission is $7. You can find a facebook event for the show right here.
