Today we have a small batch of fresh videos taken straight from Black Sheep Fest 2014 which happened last weekend. Earlier this past week we revealed a good chunk of photos taken from the festival which featured 23 Springfield bands, and now we are here today with three new videos. These videos include sets of bands Bad Banshee, Blind Social (pictured above), and Mouthsex. You can find those all below, or head over to the newly created Dumb Records/Black Sheep youtube page.

Don’t forget we have a vids/pics page on this site where you can find pictures and videos ranging from now to all nine years of Black Sheep history. To check out more photos of this year’s Black Sheep Fest, go to our Black Sheep Fest 2014 flickr album.

Panzys: “Half Dark Heart”

a3428472459_10

Looks like Springfield young punk band Panzys have sprung a new eight-song release that none of us saw coming, and now we have yet another great Springfield release to come out this summer. This is another one that was recorded at South Town Studios, which has been on fire recording band after band all summer long. The new release is streaming below, and you can also head over to the Panzys bandcamp page and download it at your own price.

Panzys have a couple of shows currently lined up at Black Sheep. One is happening on Thursday, August 14th along with Glish, Blind Social, and Meredosia. The other is happening on Friday, September 5th and it is with Lumpy & The Dumpers, Mongoloid, Mouthsex, and King Worm.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Lovecow & Montagh (Last Shows) + Wilt Candy, Borealis

ryeTwo beloved Springfield folk-punk bands, Lovecow and Montagh, will both be performing their last shows tonight. The folk punk careers of these bands will cease to exist after this show so come check these bands out one last time in a knee-bopping acknowledgement of their death. Wilt Candy will be performing their fierce tunes as a candle for those who need hope in these sparse folk-punk times. Boarealis wiill also be performing a solemn token of respect.

This will be happening tonight at 7:00 pm. Bring $5 in respect for the door. A wake for the folk-punk scene will be happening during this show, so it is requested that everyone wear funeral clothes and bring food to the potluck that will be happening. Here is the facebook event, and make sure to take note of the other shows we have coming up at Black Sheep.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Estates, Our Lady, Meredosia, Mildred

smalll

Tonight is going to be a great show at Black Sheep! Estates, a rad emo band from Wisconsin, is playing- which is always a great occurrence here at Black Sheep. They definitely deserve praise (you can listen to some of their tunes below). Our Lady is also playing– Our Lady is the raw local sadness that has been oozing all over the scene for many years now; if you haven’t seen them, you better be out to this show! Mildred is playing their first show in almost a whole year, bringing back some old tunes, and some new post-rock ones! Making it even better Meredosia is playing, with their new “Midnight” release in hand! This show is all the sadness you need to end the summer with!

The show tonight starts at 7:00 pm. The door charge is $5, which will support the touring band! You can find the facebook event here (make sure to RSVP)! Also, make sure to watch out for other upcoming shows, like the last Lovecow and Montagh show tomorrow!

The Illinois Times: “You Had To Be There”

blacksheepfestvii.18391.widea.0Springfield weekly newspaper The Illinois Times have debuted a new feature this week called “You Had To Be There.” The article is a recap of some notable events in Springfield local music of the past week. This week’s article is by Times writer Scott Faingold and it covers Donnie’s Homespun’s event “Under The Covers” which happened last weekend as well as Black Sheep Fest. More in particular, the article focuses mostly on the Table Drama/Soap Scum/Nighthawk/F///\\\\M battle set that occurred during the fest. From the article:

Soap Scum (which features Black Sheep proprietor Kevin Bradford on drums) set up their equipment on the floor near the back of the room, with the second band, Table Drama, assembled on the venue’s stage. The proceedings got underway with WWF-worthy ranting by Table Drama vocalist The Pukester proclaiming that Soap Scum was “going down” and with them the entire Black Sheep Café, clearly placing Table Drama as the bad guys in a giddily over-the-top pro-wrestling-style scenario.

You can check out the full article on the Illinois Times site right here. Be sure to also check back in the following weeks for more of the “You Had To Be There Feature.”

Happening on Saturday, August 23rd, the Radon Lounge is going to be hosting a lovely garden party. This fine party will feature the dynamic talent of the folk-core band Filmloom, hailing from Grand Rapids Michigan. Next they’ll have an act called Zaxxson Nation & the post-funk, which is definitely something that everyone should be able to get jiggy to if you dig the spirit of funk. Local emotional spoken word act Honey/Suck will also be playing this cool show. California based act Clark Edward Andros will be gracing the party with his independent country tunes as well, so overall this show should be super fly.

Come to this show at the Radon Lounge on August 23rd, it’ll be at 7pm with a $5 suggested donation. There will be free ice pops as well as iced coffee for sale so don’t miss out! Here’s the facebook event for more information, make sure to check out other shows happening in venues around Springfield as well as other shows at Black Sheep!

Anyone who was there knows that Black Sheep Fest 2014 was an extremely wild time. It was the most action-packed Black Sheep Fest we’ve had yet with a total of 23 bands (including surprise sets by F///\\\M and Nighthawk), and also an extremely rowdy crowd. Today we are bringing you photos of the day-long festival which took place this past Saturday. You can find a few of those photos below or you can head over to our Black Sheep Fest 2014 album on flickr. Also head over to our flickr page to see more show photos and other albums for other festivals of the past.
