October 10th at Black Sheep: Lost Spirit, F///\\\M, Resinater, Meredosia

It’s time to get ready for all the great October shows to start pouring in. This one is happening on Friday, October 10th and it is going to be a great one. We have the band Lost Spirit coming from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are a newer band featuring a member of Guard Records band Estates and you can stream some of their music below. Also on this show we have Springfield one-man post-rock project F///\\\M. Then we have some friends from Champaign in a newer band called Resinater, which features a member of Our Lady. To top that all off we have an appearance by Springfield post-rock band, Meredosia.

October 11th at Black Sheep: Looming, I’m Dead Inside, Knives, Wir Können

On Saturday, October 11th it looks like we have an all-local show with a great lineup of four Springfield bands that you won’t want to miss. Playing this show is hit pop/indie rock band Looming who recently posted some updates while recording from South Town Studio. Come out and maybe catch some of their new songs. Also on this show is hectic screamo project I’m Dead Inside. They will be preceded by the another new Springfield screamo project called Knives that will get you all shook up. Opening things up we have another band currently working on new material in South Town Studio, Wir Können.

Teen Freak: “Teen Freak”

Today we are bringing you a stream of the newest release by new Springfield band Teen Freak, who played their first official show at Black Sheep last night. Teen Freak was a band that came out of the Black Sheep Band Lotto show that happened last month. There are randomly assigned members from Looming, Soap Scum, and RDNT. The stream today is of the band’s five-song cassette being put out by Rat King Records based out of Champaign, Illinois. You can stream that below or head over to the Rat King bandcamp where you can also purchase the physical cassette.

Tonight at Black Sheep: JAG, Secret Tombs, F///\\\M, Teen Freak

For this show we have the “three-piece trick-or-treat indie” band JAG. Also all the way from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania we have a band called Secret Tombs (featuring members of Blood Red and Pissed Jeans). You can stream some of their music below. Also on this show is one-man shock rock fiesta project going by the name of F///\\\M. Last but not least this is the cassette release show for one of Springfield’s newest punk bands, Teen Freak. Teen Freak magically formed at the Black Sheep Band Lotto Show last month and they are here to stay.

Ooey Gooey Tapes: “4 Way Split”

Today we are bringing you a stream of the newest and goo-est of releases from Springfield cassette label Ooey Gooey Tapes. This one is a 4-way split release of four bands- two from Springfield, Illinois and two from Columbia, Missouri. On the Springfield side we have two songs from hardcore rockers Soap Scum and then three songs from punk enthusiasts Asthma. On the Columbia side we have three songs from Pregnancy Test and then six songs from Dumb Fest 2 band Ski Mask. You can stream the split below, or head over to the Ooey Gooey bandcamp page where you can download it at your own price. You can also pre-order the physical tape from the page for $3.

Looming Recording at South Town Studio

Springfield indie/punk/pop project Looming are another band to give us some updates from South Town Studio right behind Black Sheep. The band hasn’t given a lot of information on what they are working on, but the band has posted the above photo with the caption “we are doing something today.”

Looming is one of the bands announced for an upcoming Plan-It-X Records compilation coming out this upcoming winter. You can find out more about that project and find a link to donate towards the pressing of the record right here. Looming’s next show at Black Sheep is set to be Wednesday, November 5th along with Our Lady and Dowsing.

Vote In Illinois Times Best Of 2014

10644719_934880479860165_351731861296198548_oIt’s that special time of year again, and Springfield weekly newspaper The Illinois Times are taking your votes for the Best Of Springfield 2014. This year you can vote for plenty of your favorite businesses and things local to Springfield in categories such as music and nightlife, bands, restaurants, shopping, schools, and more. Last year Black Sheep got to take home the award of being voted the best all ages venue. This year there is no category for all ages venue, but there are categories for “best small venue” and “best large venue.” Find the link to go vote below.

Wir Können Recording At South Town Studio

It looks like you can add Wir Können to the long list of bands that are currently working hard with Brandon Carnes in South Town Studio right behind Black Sheep. Wir Können is a new and revamped emo super project featuring three Springfield college kids (Mario Cannamela, Austin Connelly, and Mitch Baker) who currently live in Champaign/Urbana and Bloomington/Normal. Be on the lookout for those new Wir Können tracks very soon. Those of you who listened to the Black Sheep ninth anniversary edition of the Black Sheep Radio Show this past Friday might have caught a sneak peak. Wir Können also does not have any shows lined up currently but you can be on the lookout for some very soon.

 

October 17th at Black Sheep: Maps For Travelers, Mystery Gift, The Oceanographers, Deadron, JAG

Today we have a spooky show announcement for a show happening on Friday, October 17th. This show we have the No Sleep Records band Maps For Travelers coming from Kansas City. For this show we also have the surf/indie rock band The Oceanographers coming from a skip and a hop away over at Peoria, Illinois. Sounds like fun. Then we have Freeport, Illinois band Deadron. They are an indie/punk band. We also have very alternative band Mystery Gift playing for us all. And last but not least the spookiest band in all of Springfield will be playing this show, JAG.
