The Timmys’ “Dude, Girl” Reviewed By Punknews.org

Did you know that Springfield long-running punk band, The Timmys recently released a new 4-track EP? The EP is entitled Dude, Girl and it was featured in review on the popular punk music website, punknews.org earlier this week. The review gives the EP three and a half out of five stars, and goes into depth analyzing each song. From the review:

The Timmys’ latest EP, Dude, Girl, is a nine—minute exercise in pessimistic pop punk —— it comes off as uplifting despite some heavy subject matter crammed into its four segments. The quintet from Springfield, IL masterfully balance catchy rhythms and clean—cut harmonies with harsh lyrics that chronicle the uselessness of love, the ignorance of violence and the difference between dudes and girls.

You can find the full review for Dude, Girl right here. Punknews.org is also streaming all four songs from the release right here on The Timmys’ Punk News page. The band will be playing their next show in Springfield at Donnie’s Homespun on October 31st as a part of NIL8’s Hobgoblinspookadelic.

No, you do not want to miss this band. Their music is streaming below. Also on this show is the one-man power post rock project known as (Truck)///\\\\Mountain. Streams: Rat King Records Cassingle Series

ratkingcassinglescolor

Nearby Champaign/Urbana-based record label Rat King Records has launched a stream of a pretty nifty “cassingle series” earlier this week. Although Rat King Records is not a Springfield label, and none of the acts based in the series are really from Springfield, we though the series was worth noting especially since three of the acts involved performed at this year’s past Dumb Fest 2 in South Town. The artwork for the series was also done by Springfield’s own Brian Galecki (pictured above). The series features bands Easter, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Saturday Looks Good To Me, and Cal & The Calories. You can find all four cassingles streaming on players below. Head over to the Rat King Records bandcamp where you can download all of these at your own price. The physical copies will also be available very soon at Dumb Records.

Springfield emo three-piece band Wir Können have just recently announced plans for a new release, to come out on cassette this upcoming Saturday. Earlier last month we told you that Wir Können were hard at work inside South Town Studio behind Black Sheep working on some new material. It looks like that new material will be released in cassette form, and the new release is entitled God, It’s Getting Bad. That cassette will be available at the show Saturday and likely at Dumb Records after that.

The show Saturday (October 11th) is with bands Looming, Sybassion, I’m Dead Inside, and Knives. It will kick off at 7:00 pm and cost $5 at our very own Black Sheep Cafe. Be on the lookout for a stream of the new Wir Können release very soon. The band released their Glow/Mani Pedi single about one year ago.

We have the melodic hardccore band Marigold (pictured above) coming from Kentucky for this show. You can stream their music below. Empire Board Shop Becoming “Boof City Skate Shop” October 31st

10370429_730254780383250_5897463403042674090_nThere are all sorts of big business moves going on around South Town recently. Last week we announced that Dumb Records was taking over the Harm House’s “Record of the Night.” Today we are bringing you news of change happening right above Dumb Records. It looks like Empire Board Shop is no more, and a new skate shop being called “Boof City Skate Shop” will be taking it’s place in the same spot right above Dumb. What does this change mean? For one, the skate shop above Dumb Records will be under new ownership. With this change we have also been told that the new skate shop will be ran more in tune with Skank Skates (similar to the affiliation between Black Sheep and Dumb Records). The new skate shop will be kicking things off with a big grand opening this Halloween:

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for anything going on at Black Sheep that same night. We will post regular hours for the new Boof City Skate Shop when they are known.
