About one week ago we announced the first ever South Town Record Fair happening on Saturday, November 15th. The record fair will feature tables and booths being set up by record stores, labels, and distros from all around the area. Since the fair was originally announced, it looks like a good number of labels and distros have been added to the event. Some of those that were recently added include Guard Records (based out of Springfield, Milwaukee, and Kansas City), Rat King Records (based out of Champaign), and Acid Kat Record (based out of St. Louis). Let’s take a look at the updated list of everyone participating:

Acid Kat Zine (St. Louis based label and zine)
Error Records (Champaign/Urbana label and record store)
The Garbage Shop (Taylorville label)
Guard (Springfield/Milwaukee/Kansas City based label)
Kuloolu Records (Champaign/Urbana label)
Ooey Gooey Tapes (Springfield based label)
Patch Records (Springfield based label)
Rat King Records (Champaign/Urbana based label)

The South Town Record Fair will be happening from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 15th. The event is free admission and will be happening at Dumb Records and Black Sheep. Dumb Records will also be having a 10% off sale for everything in the store that whole day. There are also rumors of a free show happening on the ramp of Skank Skates during the event. What a better way to kick off the month of November than a really weird showcase show happening at The Black Sheep Cafe. This show is happening on Saturday, November 1st and it features six bands- two from Springfield and four from St. Louis. The show is being called an Acid Kat Showcase show- the four St. Louis bands are affiliated with St. Louis based Acid Kat zine and record label. Acid Kat will also be participating in our November 15th South Town Record Fair. For this show we have Springfield hardcore band Asthma (who will also be playing tonight). For the St. Louis bands, we have Acid Kat ringleaders and wackos, Animal Teeth. If you saw Animal Teeth the last time they played in Springfield it may have been in some sort of glue tube. Next on our list is Dad Jr. from St. Louis. You can stream some of their music below. Acid Kat band #3 is a trio called Willis. And the last Acid Kat act is a performer called Tubby Tom, which we have been told is some sort of rap act. The show will open up with recently name-changed Springfield band, SAP.

This show starts at 6:30 pm since there are so many bands, and admission is $7. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at all of the shows coming up at Black Sheep.

It’s Friday, ghouls!! And we’ve got a super solid show coming up tonight. The local dream weavers in Mystery Gift are going to open things up with their rad jams. Peoria area based sulkadelic band The Oceanographers, featuring members of Howlback– who played at The Black Sheep back in July– will be exhibiting some mighty fine stuff for us to listen to. Deadron (Still Here Records) gracing us from Freeport, IL will move our insides with their alternative tunes- so get ready! On tour with Deadron is Maps For Travellers (No Sleep Records) and their heavy emo set is sure to be stirring so show both of those bands some support and don’t miss them!  To bring the night to full circle will be the supernatural forces in local grunge junk-punk band JAG, who will surely have an exciting set.

Come experience this stellar set tonight, at 7pm, in the midst of the beautiful midwestern autumn. Wear all your favorite fall clothes and bring $5 for the show, all goons welcome. No wars, leave the hexes at home. Here’s the facebook event for the complete downlow. Make sure to check out the other awesome shows we have in store for you all! Right now those include MPress (who played at our last hip hop show), RJC, MP5, and HISO Music Entertainment. Along with the music there will be costume contests, so be sure to wear a costume if you plan on coming!
