It looks like it is already time to announce the next studio show live at South Town Studio, and it looks like this one is happening… in four days! Surprise! This is almost like a pop quiz of a show, happening on Monday, January 19th up in the studio. Much like the last studio show, this show features three bands and attendees will receive live recordings of each of the bands’s sets along with paying for admission. This show features touring act Tantive IV coming from Indianapolis, IN. You can find some of that band’s music streaming below. This show will also feature a rare performance by one-man project F///\\\M. We also get another rare performance of “Sargent Karate (Everyone Is So Pretty)” which is the one man black metal project of Chris Yeager which came out of our first ever Band Lotto show this past summer.

The show Monday will start in the studio at 7:00 pm, and admission is $5 (attendees will also receive a live recording of all three sets). You can’t find a facebook event anywhere for this, but check out our shows page for a long list of everything coming up at Black Sheep and Southtown.

Coming up on Friday, January 30th we have a show coming up at Black Sheep for you all. It is looking like this one will be a good old fashioned three-band punk show. This show features touring act Arugula from Chicago, featuring members of the band Sputter that came through back in October. You can find some of Arugula’s music streaming on the player below. This show will also be the return of Champaign/Urbana wolf-fronted punk band Wolf Luv. Last time Wolf Luv made an appearance in Southtown was on the ramp of Skank Skates during Dumb Fest 2. Opening this show up is a performance by a brand new Springfield band called Acid Cop. Make sure to come early to find out who is in that band and what they are all about.

This show will begin at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything coming up at Black Sheep and Southtown.

Dumb Fest Facebook Page

dumbfestpage2

It looks like a new facebook page has been created for Dumb Fest (the whole fest, not just Dumb Fest 2 or 3). Dumb Fest is an annual music festival in Southtown focusing on DIY music and punk happening in Central Illinois, the Midwest, and the surrounding areas. The page has confirmed that planning for a third Dumb Fest has begun, but no dates or bands have been confirmed yet. You can be on the lookout for date announcements next month, and probably band announcements in March. Check out the new page right here.

Dumb Fest 2 happened last year on June 13th and 14th at Black Sheep, Skank Skates, Dumb Records, and South Town Studio. You can find a lot of photos from that event on our Dumb Fest 2 flickr album.

Dumb Records One Year Anniversary Today

Dumb1yearanniversary

Today is a big day in Southtown. For those of you who can remember one whole year back, you might remember on January 10th and 11th of 2014 Dumb Records opening it’s doors for the first time. There was a big grand opening party on the 11th with an art show at Black Sheep next door, and the store even appeared in the Springfield Business Journal the following month.

Today Dumb Records is turning one whole year old and we have some things in store to celebrate. First off, everything in the store today (open 10:00 am – 9:00 pm) is 15% off. Then tonight we are having a show at Black Sheep to celebrate the store being around for one year. Bands playing that include Caterpillar Club– the shoegaze project of Kevin Bradford, owner of Black Sheep. We also have Kevin’s band lotto jazz-fushion project going by the name “International Mutant Orchestra.” Also on the bill is Springfield pop group Full Chroma. Before them are another high school-aged pop group called The Locals. And opening things up will be a performance by the alternative/punk group The Seething Coast.

The show tonight begins at 6:30 pm and is $5, inside of Black Sheep. Dumb Records will be open all day and all through the show. Find a facebook event for all of this right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up in Southtown.
