DUMB FEST 3 at Black Sheep, Skank Skates, Dumb Records, and South Town Studio on June 12th and 13th

dumbfest3

The past two summers in Southtown have featured the multi-band punk music festival extravaganza – DUMB FEST. Dumb Fest 1 happened two days in June in 2013 and featured 25 bands, and last year’s Dumb Fest also happened over the course of two days and featured a grand total of 46 bands. Tonight we are announcing that Dumb Fest 3 (or 3-D) is definitely happening, and it will take place Friday and Saturday June 12th and 13th. No bands are being announced at this point (you can expect those announcements to come around the month of March), but now you have the dates so you can start planning summer vacations and plane flights accordingly!

Dumb Fest 3 will be happening at The Black Sheep Cafe, Skank Skates, Dumb Records, and also South Town Studio (that’s four locations, wow)! You can also expect ticket pre-orders to pop up in March after most of the lineup has been announced. Stay on track with everything Dumb Fest related by following our Dumb Fest page. There is also now a new Dumb Fest facebook page that you can now follow. For photos of last year’s Dumb Fest, go here.

That’s right, on this day we have the progressive metal band Sirens coming from Terra Haute, Indiana. Check out their music on the player embedded below. This show will also feature a stacked bill of bands from around the area, including the melodic hardcore band Uncertainties from Champaign/Urbana. We also have the very first show of a brand new metal band called Xenosapien, featuring members from both Springfield and Bloomington/Normal. Make sure to come and catch what they are all about. Before that is another Central Illinois band called Portals, playing some of the best Deathcore around. We also have the return of Central Illinois band Noesis, who recently played at Black Sheep earlier this year. Topping that all off at band number six is the Canton, Illinois metal band called Between Fate and Fearless.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission will be just $5 for six bands (less than $1 per band). You can check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a complete look at everything coming up at Black Sheep in the coming months.

It’s time to mix things up again here at Black Sheep headquarters. Here on Friday, March 13th we have a great mixed-genre show that is going to mix things up real good for us all. Headlining this show is a dance/electro-pop act from Texas called The Historians (pictured above). You can check out what that group sounds like by listening to the music on the player at the bottom of this post (it’s dance-y). Also on the show is a Galesburg two-piece pop punk project called Pillow Fight. Pillow Fight features members of plenty of bands that have played at Southtown before including Genovia Forever, Occultonomy, and Rat Storm. Then we have a powerpop band coming from Peoria called Arcade At Midnight. We also have your favorite local ska-punk band, Bad Banshee. We have been told that opening this show up will be a brand new Springfield project called Fel Fae which we know nothing about. Make sure to come early to see what that is all about!

The show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up in Southtown in the coming months.

Our Lady Joins Mayfly Records, Plan New Album

33ee51cf36bb2f00dfce34027733e760

Springfield screamo/emotional hardcore band Our Lady (who are also currently on tour in the Eastern United States with the band Aviator), have recently joined Mayfly Records– an independent record label founded in 2009. From the Mayfly Records website:

Mayfly Records is excited to welcome Springfield, Illinois’ Our Lady to the family. Our Lady has spent the last couple of years building a devoted local following, touring regularly, and fine tuning their blend of 90′s screamo and sullen indie rock that will appeal to fans of La dispute, Barrow, and Mewithoutyou. Since 2013 they have created an already accomplished catalog, highlighted by their recent split with Estates (Released via Guard/Mind Over Matter). Our Lady is currently writing a new LP which will see a summer release on Mayfly Records, but will be taking a short break to hit the road with No Sleep artist Aviator.

Looks like Our Lady is also currently working on a new album that will be released sometime this upcoming summer through Mayfly Records. The band released Dawning II in late 2013 through Mind Over Matter Records. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for any upcoming Our Lady shows in the near future.

Carr, Jayy Willis, and HISO Music Entertainment. Then we have a grand total of four rap battles (wow). If you were around for the last hip hop show with rap battles (the last one had two), you know how crazy things can get. The battles include Relentless vs. Boss Maseiano, Cerius Bars vs. Deezy Alfamega, Tello vs. Savage, and Southside vs. Twitch.

All of that is going to be kicking off right around 7:00, with doors opening then and the show starting sometime between then and 8:00. Admission is $5. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Southtown this year.

There is another show happening at Black Sheep tonight, and this is show number two out of three shows that are happening this weekend (The Copyrights, Timmys, and King Worm show last night was great). For this show we have local ska-punk maniacs, Bad Banshee! Bad Banshee was your #1 pick for release of the 2014 with their CD Skitter/Skitter, so make sure to come out and skank away for their set. This show also features touring act Arugula from Chicago, featuring members of the band Sputter that played here in the fall. You can stream some of Arugula’s music below. This show also marks the return of the vicious Wolf Luv from Champaign/Urbana, playing their first show here since Dumb Fest 2. Opening things up we have a first ever performance by a new Springfield punk band called Acid Cop. Who is in Acid Cop? Make sure to come to the show early and find out.
