This Saturday at Dumb Records: Back To School Sale

This Saturday, Dumb Records is going to make another attempt to continue living up to the name “DUMB” and it looks like there is going to be a BIG “Back To School Sale” happening at the store. The sale is going on throughout the entire day (open from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm). Customers will receive:

25% off all new items
40% off all used items
and 50% off all shoes

(if you can find any shoes for sales in the store).

Yes, this is a joke but the sales are REAL. This will actually be the biggest sale that Dumb Records has done up to this point! And if you need more of a reason to come out to Southtown that night, don’t forget that this Saturday there is also a show featuring The Timmys, The Haddonfields, Estates, The Rackatees, and Diaper Rash happening at Black Sheep. Dumb Records is located at 1107 South Grand East.

This week all we have is three new records in the store, but they are great special shiny new records that need good homes to go to. Tonight at Black Sheep: Valentine’s Ska Formal with Bad Banshee, Must Build Jacuzzi, The Runner Ups

Happy Valentine’s Day from your friends at Black Sheep! Tonight we have something special going on. We are hosting a Valentine’s Day “ska formal” show featuring three very talented and catchy ska bands! This includes Springfield’s own ska band Bad Banshee! Be on the lookout for a special set from them featuring all seven members of the band. Up next before Bad Banshee are The Runner Ups! They Runner Ups are another seven-piece band from the Chicago area. They will sure to have you skankin’ in the pit. Opening things up and the third band we have on tonight’s show is Must Build Jacuzzi from Peoria. Must Build Jacuzzi are no strangers to Black Sheep- they have played here a few times before. The show tonight starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Bring a date! Or come alone! Also feel free to dress up, or wear whatever you want! It’s 2015 and there are no rules! February 28th at The Radon Lounge: Otis The Destroyer, Von Stranz, The Locals, Rella

It has been a little while since we have talked about any shows happening at Springfield house venue, The Radon Lounge. Well, the house is still going strong- they just put on a Bruce Springsteen cover night late last month, and they are also gearing up for their annual Horse Show on June 20th coming up this year. The Radon Lounge’s latest announced show is one happening there on Saturday, February 28th. It will feature the psychadelic/experimental band Otis The Destroyer from Austin, Texas. For those of you unfamiliar, you can stream some of Otis The Destroyer’s music below. Speaking of The Horse Show, The Radon Lounge have the duo Von Stranz from Indianapolis making a return after playing The Horse Show this past summer. Before them is a local band called The Locals (haha). Opening things up will be a set by the acoustic solo artist Rella– featuring Clare Frachey of SAP.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Until We Are Ghosts, Household, Loses The Mighty, Krelboyne, Hope For Now

It’s a Wednesday night and we have a super stacked show happening at Black Sheep tonight for you all. Come out tonight and enjoy some melodic hardcore and a bit of post rock. Tonight we have the melodic hardcore band called Until We Are Ghosts coming from Rochester, New York. You can stream some of their music on the player embedded below. Until We Are Ghosts are on tour with the Minneapolis, Minnesota hardcore band Household. Be sure to catch both of those touring acts. We also have a few local and nearby bands. We have Loses The Mighty on the bill- the Central Illinois post hardcore band. We also have the Champaign/Urbana emo/post hardcore/experimental band Krelboyne, who have already played at Black Sheep a number of times this year. Opening things up we have a post hardcore band from Morton, Illinois called Hope For Now.

Looming Release “Zombie” (The Cranberries) For All March 25th Ticket Preorders

This Monday evening we are bringing you a very special TWIST from Black Sheep and South Town Studio headquarters. South Town Studio has been working with the band Looming to come up with a very special special edition recorded cover song for you all to hear. The the cover is of the song “Zombie” originally released by Irish rock band The Cranberries in 1994. We are very excited about this recording.

Here is the twist: The only way to hear the whole song is by preordering a ticket to the March 25th show at Black Sheep featuring Screaming Females, Shellshag, Looming, and Kowabunga Kid!

That’s right! What an interesting twist. Mp3 downloads of the song will arrive via email within 48 hours of purchasing a ticket. If you have already preordered a ticket for the show, we will be emailing you shortly with a download of the song. Tickets can be purchased for $10 online right here, or also during store hours at Dumb Records. Tickets bought online are will-call, meaning we will have your name on the list when you walk in the door- you do not need a ticket. Door price for the day of the show is $12. February 21st at Black Sheep: The Timmys, The Haddonfields, Estates, The Rackatees, Diaper Rash

Looks like we have a show announcement today for a show that is coming up right around the corner on Saturday, February 21st, which is actually in less than two weeks! This show is going to have something for everybody. For this show we have the long running Springfield punk rock band, The Timmys. The Timmys released their Dude, Girl EP last year. Also on this show is the return of the St. Louis punk band, The Haddonfields. You can check out some music for The Haddonfields streaming below. The last time The Haddonfields played at Black Sheep was on November of 2013. They also played with The Rackatees that night (from Kansas City), and The Rackatees are also playing the show here on February 21st. On top of all of that we have Milwaukee’s Estates, who last played here this past summer when they released a split 7″ with Springfield band Our Lady. To top the show off, we will get yet another performance by the mysterious Springfield baby band, Diaper Rash.

Today we are bringing you a video (one of our first of 2015) of a show inside of Black Sheep. This one is of the Carbondale pop-punk band The Copyrights. The Copyrights played at Black Sheep a little over a week ago on Thursday, January 29th along with The Timmys and King Worm. Today we have a video of The Copyrights performing their song “Stuck In The Fall.” You can check that video out streaming below.

April 13th at Black Sheep: All People, Asthma, Night/Hex, Bad Banshee

Here’s a cool show that’s happening at Black Sheep on Monday, April 13th! It features a glob a punk with a little touch of ska, ambience, and hardcore. For this show we have the band All People coming from New Orleans, Louisiana. All People play a sort of experimental punk/reggae fusion type stuff. You can check out some of their music streaming below. Also on this show is the Springfield hardcore band Asthma. We also have Night/Hex– the ambient/shoegaze project featuring members of War Magic that started off as a recording project but have recently begun playing shows. Looks like opening things up we have everyone’s favorite local ska/punk kids, Bad Banshee.
