A good amount of photos from SOHO 11 have been going up on the SOHO facebook page. The downtown festival took place two weekends ago and this was the first year Black Sheep and Southtown were involved with the festival, with our very own Black Sheep stage and Dumb Records tent. The festival was a great success, and we look forward to working with SOHO in the future. Bands that played the Black Sheep stage included Looming, Hospital Job, The Locals, Wir Können, Kickstart, Blind Social, and The Science Of. Black Sheep Open Mic Tonight

Tonight at Black Sheep from 7:00 – 10:30 we are giving our second Black Sheep Open Mic a whirl since the first one was such a great success. Tonight we have a total of 14 acts performing 10-15 minute long sets- and a few open slots which could be filled by you! 9 of the slots are filled up, and we are leaving the remaining 5 to be claimed at the show, so if you would like to perform you will have to come out to the show early to claim your spot. Here is what we have lined up:

Videos: C.C.T.V. / OOZE Surprise Dumb Fest Aftershow @ South Town Studio

Today we are bringing you a treat of a video of two surprise sets that took place at the very end of the second day of Dumb Fest 3, which happened last weekend. At the very end of the festival, Northwest Indiana bands C.C.T.V. and OOZE both went up to South Town Studio and performed two surprise sets- all while being caught on a go-pro video camera that was synched up with a live recording of the band. We have that video for you today, and you can stream it below.

Dumb Fest 3-D was a great success, and we are still working on collecting all of the videos and pictures from the event! You can keep checking back our Dumb Fest 3-D page on updates on that.

June 27th at Black Sheep: DJ’s Charity For Cerebral Palsy

A week from today, on Saturday, June 27th we will be hosting a benefit show for an 8 year old with Cerebral Palsy, being put on by HISO Music Entertainment. For those of you who have been out to any of the recent HISO shows, you know that this will be a good time. For this one we have a good lineup of solo musicians, singers, and artists lined up. Some of those solo musicians include Dramara, Sammy Flores, Katie, and Calia. We also have the hip hop artist Pytch Wyte, and you can stream some of his music on the player below. Before that is a drummer/singer duo called “Allison & Skiddlz,” and then we also have a full band performance by Fill In The Blank, who has played a few times before at Black Sheep.

There is also a GoFundMe page setup for HISO’s cause if you are unable to make the show right here. HISO’s goal is raising $5,000. Doors for the show open at 7:00 pm and there is a $10 cover to go towards the cause. Check out what else is coming up at Black Sheep on our shows page right here.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Inner Outlines, The Complaint Line, Because Reasons, Kickstart

This Saturday night (tonight) we have a show for all of you alternative rockers out there.

For this show we have the punk band Inner Outlines from Carrollton, Illinois. They play a type of pop punk. This show is also the return of local band The Complaint Line to Black Sheep, since their last show here last August. Then we have the indie-pop band called “Because Reasons” coming from St. Louis to play this show. You can check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Opening things up is a performance by the pop punk local band Kickstart, who are also playing the Black Sheep stage of SOHO Music Festival downtown this upcoming weekend!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Noesis, Abyss, Blue Skies Beneath Black, A Beginning’s End

Tonight we have another metal show happening at Black Sheep. This one features four bands with the possibility of one more last minute addition. Tonight we have Noesis from Central Illinois, who also played here at Black Sheep earlier this week. Then we have another band who also performed at Black Sheep this past Tuesday night, Abyss! Then to mix things up a little bit we have the metal/death core band from Wood River, Illinois called Blue Skies Beneath Black. And if all of that is not enough for you, the fourth band is A Beginning’s End from Alton, Illinois. Check them out on the video below if you want to know what their live set is like.

Illinois Times: “A Band On The Brink”

The cover story for Springfield weekly newspaper The Illinois Times this week is “A Band On The Brink”- an in depth article on Springfield’s very own Looming, who recently signed to No Sleep Records, has an album coming out this August, and is also on the road for a short run with Run Forever. From the article, written by Scott Faingold:

This is clearly a band on a precipice – excited by the potential of their suddenly raised status in the music world, but still unclear as to what this will mean going forward. “I think it’s smart not to get too crazy with ambitions,” says Knight. “I think we’re trying to be happy with this right now before we take a moment to think about what we want to do next. We’re still taking in the weight of what this means to us.”
“We just want the most people possible to hear our music and take something good from it – that’s our ambition,” says Fein.

Looming will be playing next at Black Sheep on July 25th, for Black Sheep Fest 2015. They also have been hinting at a big album release show on Friday, August 14th with older Springfield emo band Park.

Dumb Fest 3-D Videos

Project Southtown Kickstarter Campaign Ending In One Week

It looks like we have reached the final week of the two month-long run of our Project Southtown Kickstarter Campaign- a campaign we have started to preserve some of the history of our music community and also to secure much of our future. Currently the project has over 100 donors, and we have passed up our minimum goal of $5,000. Any money raised in addition to our goal is also extremely helpful in the project and is greatly appreciated.

Donate to the Project Southtown Kickstarter and watch the video right here. The campaign will be ending in one week on Thursday, June 25th at 4:00 pm. Incentives for all of the donors will be shipping out in July, and we will also be giving at least one update a month on the project after the campaign has ended.

June 26th at Black Sheep: Bar Brawl Battle League Official Try Out

Coming up at Black Sheep a week from this upcoming Friday on June 26th we are having a show filled exclusively with rap battles! Those of you who have been around for previous rap battles at Black Sheep know just how intense they can get, and this show will be no exception. Here’s what is lined up as far as who will be facing who on the stage:

Twitch and Cerius Barz face off in a battle of #3BL vets,
Decatur’s Yella takes on Peoria’s Iydiss,
Peoria’s Get Em Bo takes on Missouri’s Malado,
and two newcomers Rick Slick and Zach Gilbert match up in a battle of rookies!

DJ for the night will be DJ Juice Ortiz, and “Uncanny” himself will be the host for the night. There also might be a non-battle performance or two snuck in from 2 Live Nation, We Back Soon, and possibly more!
