Today is another episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show, and this time around we have two special guests. Today those guests are AYO and Sammi from HISO Music Entertainment! HISO is a collective of musicians here in Springfield, and they have their next event coming up this Saturday (tomorrow) at Black Sheep. Is it also a benefit show for an 8 year old with Cerebral Palsy. Find more on that show right here. HISO also has a spot on Black Sheep Fest this year, and they will also be talking to us about that.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Bar Brawl Battle League Official Tryout

Tonight at Black Sheep we are having a show filled exclusively with rap battles! Those of you who have been around for previous rap battles at Black Sheep know just how intense they can get, and this show will be no exception. Here’s what is lined up as far as who will be facing who on the stage:

Twitch and Cerius Barz face off in a battle of #3BL vets,
Decatur’s Yella takes on Peoria’s Iydiss,
Peoria’s Get Em Bo takes on Missouri’s Malado,
and two newcomers Rick Slick and Zach Gilbert match up in a battle of rookies!

DJ for the night will be DJ Juice Ortiz, and “Uncanny” himself will be the host for the night. There also might be a non-battle performance or two snuck in from 2 Live Nation, We Back Soon, and possibly more!

Hollow Earth Added To July 1st Show at Black Sheep

Today we have a last minute addition to a show that is happening here at Black Sheep in less than a week. Detroit’s Hollow Earth have been added to the show happening next Wednesday, July 1st. The show also features Appalachian Terror Unit, Occultonomy, SAP, and Sgt. Karate. Some of you might remember Hollow Earth played at Black Sheep last November with The Sheds and Loses The Mighty.

Yardfest 2015 In Peoria August 15th

Another festival was recently announced as happening in Central Illinois, and that is Peoria’s Yardfest- happening this year on August 15th. This will be the 17th year of the annual festival. Yardfest is happening this year at Satterfield’s Haunted Mansion in Peoria. You can find more information on the whole thing right here on the Yardfest 2015 facebook event. The State Journal Register also let us know yesterday that Fall Out Boy will be playing at the Illinois State Fair that same night, if that is more of your thing. Black Sheep Fest 2015 will also be taking place this year on Saturday, July 25th.

Horrible Things: “Everybody Else”

The Champaign/Urbana pop punk band Horrible Things featuring Tim Reynolds also of Hospital Job has released their second full length album Everybody Else and it is streaming at New Noise Magazine. You can stream the full album right here on the New Noise Magazine site. Also check out the song “A Million Times” streaming from the Horrible Things bandcamp page below. Artwork for Everybody Else was also done by Springfield’s Brian Galecki.

You can pre-order the vinyl release for Everybody Else right here from Secret Pennies Records. Orders will be shipping out in August, Dumb Records will also have the records available later this summer.

July 24th at Black Sheep: Fad, Garter, Gush

On Friday, July 24th (just one day before Black Sheep Fest 2015) we have a short and sweet three band show happening. For this show we have a band called FAD coming all the way from Birmingham, Alabama. You can stream some of their music on the player below. We also have the newer Springfield band Garter– which features members of Big Storm, Nighthawk, and Teen Freak. Then starting things off we have a very first performance by Gush- another new Springfield band featuring members of WARRS, Mouthsex, and Table Drama.

August 7th at Black Sheep: Fill In The Blank, Abyss, The Locals, Sammy & The Punk, Terribly Happy

We have a show coming up at Black Sheep on Friday, August 7th featuring some punk, metal, and alternative rock all wrapped into one. This show will be the CD release show for local band Fill In The Blank, and they will be dropping their first hit album – Slacker. We also have Abyss, who will also be performing at the Black Sheep Battle of the Bands coming up July 11th. Before them is the hit Springfield High School three-piece pop project, The Locals. Then before that we have the guitar/drums duo – Sammy & The Punk. Opening things up we have a Peoria pop punk band called Terribly Happy. You can stream some of their music on the player below.

Lincoln’s Legends Dumb Fest Videos

The Springfield weekly podcast- Lincoln’s Legends Podcast was nice enough to do some on the spot video footage at Dumb Fest 3-D earlier this month. Jeremie Bailey behind the podcast was at the first night of the fest, talking to bands and show attendees, as well as getting some footage of some of the live performances. Check out two of those videos below, one of them including Jeremie chatting with guitarist/vocalist Doyle Martin of Cloakroom, who headlined day 1 of the festival.

Ghost-Track Review Of Dumb Fest Day 2

A newer website focusing on music happening in the state of Illinois called Ghost-Track has put up some photos of the second day of Dumb Fest 3-D, along with a nice review of a lot of different bands that played that day. Tenement is just one of those bands that seem to effortlessly put out hit after hit with some of the catchiest riffs that can be written in pop punk. The band played a number of songs off of their new albumPredatory Headlights, which was released earlier this month and has already been reviewed by an impressive amount of outlets across the country. The always energetic set Tenement is known for really helped tie in the events of the day together as the fest neared its conclusion.

For the last three years, Dumb Fest has been a fantastic display of DIY ethics that generates into a successful and enjoyable music experience for all of those who attend it. And there’s no rest for the people at Black Sheep, either. Just two days after Dumb Fest 3D concluded, they announced the lineup for their eighth annual Black Sheep Fest happening on Saturday, July 25.

We are still gathering photos from Dumb Fest 3-D, you can expect to see many coming at some point this week!
