It’s been a couple of weeks since we have gotten to tell you about the new stuff coming into Dumb Records, with us being a little thrown out of the regular loop by Record Store Day the weekend before last. We want to say thanks to all who came out to Record Store Day this year- it was the biggest day the store has ever had so far! This week there are plenty of new used records on the shelves at Dumb Records (located at 1107 South Grand East Ave.). You can find a list of just some of those records below. Tonight at Black Sheep: Sea Cycles, The Locals, Stems, Shark Week

Tonight it’s time to put on your fancy shoes because we have a sort of indie-rock show happening at Black Sheep tonight. Tonight the show starts at 7:00 pm and we have the band Sea Cycles coming on tour from Jacksonville, Florida. You can check out some of their indie-psychedelic music below. Also on this show is local three piece pop band, The Locals! The Locals are also playing Dumb Fest and SOHO Music Festival in June. Before them on the lineup we have the Taylorville-based pop punk band Stems! They are newer and just played at Black Sheep two nights ago. Opening things up we have Shark Week, or possibly a solo set by Clare Frachey depending on if one of Shark Week’s members is too sick to make the show.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Caterpillar Club, Staghorn, Drained, Orator, Ceiling Lust

A very cool magic potion bottle right up there filled with some special bands who are playing a special show at Black Sheep tonight. That’s right, come out tonight for all of the shoegaze and stoner music you can handle. For the show tonight we have Caterpillar Club’s first show in about a year. They will be releasing a brand new cassette tape tonight out on Sparrow and Crow Records, which you can stream one of the songs from directly below. We also have the instrumental St. Louis project Staghorn playing. We also have the heavy sludge band Orator shaking up the whole building. Before them is the shoegaze band Drained from Peoria who last made an appearance here for Dumb Fest 3D. And opening things up we have a brand new Springfield project called Ceiling Lust.

Caterpillar Club: “Incense”

Today we are bringing you a new hit single from the local stoner shoegaze band Caterpillar Club. The song is called “Incense” and you can stream it on the player below. This is the band’s first release of new material since their first cassette, Path on the Sea in 2013. They will be releasing a new cassette full of new material out on Sparrow & Crow Records at the show at Black Sheep tomorrow night along with Staghorn, Drained, and Orator. Caterpillar Club features original Black Sheep owner Kevin Bradford, who will be in as guest of The Black Sheep Radio Show today kicking off in a little bit from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

We are on to the fifth episode of our third season of The Black Sheep Radio Show since Brandon Carnes has left us. This episode we are going to ease back into the swing of things with a special guest and that is none other than original long time Black Sheep owner Kevin Bradford himself (pictured above to the right). Kevin will be in talking about what he is doing now since his departure from Black Sheep one year ago and also will be talking to us about his band Caterpillar Club‘s new hit single they dropped earlier this week. Caterpillar Club will be playing the show at Black Sheep tomorrow night along with Drained, Orator, and Staghorn.

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm on your radio dial. You can also tune in during the same time online at wqna.net. Check out our radio page for some older downloadable episodes and more info.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Sammy and the Punk, Dear Darla, Fill In The Blank, Ragna Rye, Noesis, Terribly Happy

It’s a Friday night and we have a show happening tonight featuring a whopping six bands. Five of those are from the area, and one out of town.  The out of town on the bill for this one is the band Dear Darla from Indianapolis, IN. They play pop punk and you can stream their music on the player below. Other than we have a pretty hefty bill of local bands lined up. This includes the three-piece rock n’ punk outfit, called Sammy & The Punk. We also have the rockabilly folk band playing a rare Black Sheep show- Ragna Rye. One other out of town band but from nearby is the band Terribly Happy from Peoria, IL. We will be terribly happy to have them. Before that to get a good genre-mix in is the metalcore band Noesis from Carlinville, Illinois. And then last but not least is the local pop punk band Fill In The Blank.

DUMB FEST 4-EVER Announcement #6

We didn’t think we would be making more Dumb Fest announcements or announcing bands for the fest this late, but here we are with a sixth announcement! The big festival is now less than two months away happening on June 10th, 11th, and 12th! Today we are back with a whole eight more bands playing the festival, bringing us to a total of 48 bands currently announced. Here are those bands:

The Studio Show Episode 9: Amanda Greive, Square of the Roots

The new Springfield hit TV show focused on highlighting some artists and musicians coming out of Springfield, The Studio Show, is already to it’s ninth episode. You can check out that newest episode below, about 30 minutes long. This time around the guest artist is Amanda Greive, and the featured band is the local country act Square of Roots (pictured above). Of course you can find all sorts of fun tidbits thrown in by the creative minds behind The Studio Show in between the guests in the episode.

May 23rd at Black Sheep: The Convalescence, Hallows Die, Apollo, Fill In The Blank, Through Burning Eyes, Set Fire To Salem

Coming up on Monday, May 23rd at Black Sheep we have a whole six band metal show happening at Black Sheep for what is being called the “Monday Night Metal” show. This show features quite the lineup of bands including The Convalescence from Toledo, Ohio who have performed at Black Sheep a number of times now. This time around The Convalescence will be on tour with two other acts including Hallows Die and Apollo. This Monday night metal show would not be complete without a splash of pop punk in the middle, so we have Fill In The Blank also playing the show. Before them is Central Illinois based metalcore band Through Burning Eyes. And opening things up we have Springfield metal act Set Fire To Salem.

April 29th at Black Sheep: Voice of Addiction, The Complaint Line

Here’s an announcement for a Black Sheep show coming up really quick- on Friday, April 29th! This one is looking short and sweet, it might turn out to be just a two band show! Maybe we can ride bikes and hang out afterwards. One of those two bands includes The Voice of Addiction from Chicago. They play punk rock. You can stream some of their music on the player embedded below. The one other band on this show is the local alternative 90’s-rock band The Complaint Line. There may or may not be another act added between now and the show, we’ll see!
