Black Sheep Battle of the Bands July 9th

battleofthebandsweb2016.jpg

It’s on! Time to announce our next battle of the bands happening at Black Sheep before we get behind on things. This year it’s happening on Saturday, July 9th and this will the our 4th? 5th?? battle of the bands that we have put on in our eleven years of being a venue. Right now we are hard on the hunt looking for new and younger bands that would be a good fit for the battle. Ideally the point of this is to give younger and newer bands (from the Springfield area) an opportunity to play our space that wouldn’t normally have that chance, and to introduce some of those younger bands and musicians to our music scene.

This year’s battle of the bands will operate similar to the past few years, there will be two prizes awarded both to a crowd’s choice and a judge’s choice. The crowd’s choice award will be given a spot on Black Sheep Fest, which is happening this year on August 6th. The judges choice will be given free recording time at Black Sheep or in South Town Studio (not with Brandon Carnes this time around, but we are still working out the kinks!). There will be a special judges panel set up for the battle, we will be letting you know the judges soon.

So far we do have a coule of bands on the lineup for this and those include Spooky Poo from Decatur, Stems from Taylorville and Skunkworks from Jacksonville, both nearby Springfield. Expect more bands to be added to the lineup. If you are in a band that would be a good fit for this or know of one, go ahead and email us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com! The Battle of the Bands again is happening on Saturday, July 9th. The show will start at 6:00 pm and admission for those not playing in bands is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this summer.
