15129530_1338832879501409_8156042670849380557_o.jpg

There’s a lot happening at Dumb Records (1107 South Grand Ave. East) coming up soon, as we just announced big plans to take our giant green elephant in the Christmas parade downtown one week from today. Today we are announcing Black Friday Record Store Day plans for the day just before that this upcoming Friday, November 25th.

It looks like Dumb Records will be teaming up with Cafe Andiamo downtown for the first time ever and Andiamo will be providing free coffee and pastries at this event from 8:00 am to noon (you gotta get up early)! In addition to this of course Dumb Records will have a good number of exclusive RSD vinyl releases coming out on this day. Also there will be a sale of 20% off all new items and 40% off all used. That’s a lot to look forward to!

Black Friday Record Store Day will be taking place from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm. Check out a facebook event for this right here. Also don’t forget that there is this pretty big show happening that same night at Black Sheep. And check out our shows page to stay in the loop with all the events we have coming up at Dumb Records / Black Sheep in the near future.

Black Sheep Band Lotto Tonight!

14380196_10210096087346431_766729965311660365_o.jpg

Whoops, sorry for the late start today! Today is going to be a good one! We are hosting our third ever Black Sheep Band Lotto tonight at 7:00 pm. For those of you who are unfamiliar on what Band Lotto is or how it works – a couple of months ago we had volunteers willingly put their names into a box we had out for about a week. Then we drew names in groups of 4’s and 5’s and it is the task of those people to get together and form a band for one show. That show is TONIGHT and you can check out the drawn names listed above.

The show tonight will kick off at 7:00 pm. Bands will go in order of number (starting with #1 and ending with #5). Admission for those not in bands is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in these next few months.

December 4th at Black Sheep: Resilience – A Night of Poetry, Spoken Sentiment, and Music

resilienceflier_1.jpg

It’s here! With last week’s election and the times we are living in being crazy times, we made this statement as The Black Sheep last week regarding where we stand as an all ages space in town. And as we promised, we are now hosting an event on Sunday, December 4th also a response to this year’s election called “RESILIENCE.” What does resilience mean? By definition it is “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.” We might not all agree on political issues- but most of us can get behind banding together when other different communities, minorities, or those who don’t fit in anywhere may be experiencing difficulty to help each other out- or to give voice to those people in need that don’t often get the opportunity to be heard. So on December 4th we are coming together for a night of music, poetry, hip hop, spoken word, and more. Here is what we have planned for the night:

9:30 and later: PRYSS and SHARK WEEK
8:30 – 9:30: block of hip hop and spoken word presented by 217Hiphop.comand Torch Tuesday at Bar None
+ performance by Mikey Hash
8:10: guest speaker Sam Johnson of KEEP It 200
8:00: spoken word by AJ Francis
7:00 – 8:00: an hour of poetry by Johari Id and more
6:30: guest speaker Stephen Houldsworth
6:00: opening + maybe songs by Jason Perry

As you can see, this show will start at 6:00 pm and likely go until around 10:30 pm. Check out a facebook event for this right here. Also of course check out our shows page for more happening at Black Sheep in the near future. This event will be FREE but we will be taking donations to various groups, charities, and organizations that may be needing help the most during these times. Suggestions on groups to have donation jars for welcome!

Time is very limited on this event right now, but if there is any way you feel you can get involved (showing art, making food, setting a table up, etc) send us an email to blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com

Screen Shot 2016-11-16 at 11.59.36 PM.png

We just can’t get over how great this second season of The Studio Show. The Springfield based web series highlighting artists and musicians from the area is already five episodes into it’s second season which kicked off earlier this fall. This episode has all sorts of Black Sheep / Dumb Records goodies. You can catch Black Sheep co-owner Clare Frachey starring in a trailer for an “indie” flick coming to theaters near you, Scott Faingold of Epsom as a therapist, and some quick shots at Black Sheep and Dumb Records. Guest artist this time around is Marcellus Leonard, and the featured band is Lazer Dudes. You can check out the full new episode on the player below.

Videos: “Operation Dumb Elephant: Making The Big Move”

Screen Shot 2016-11-16 at 6.14.58 PM.png

A couple of months ago now thanks to your help and support – Brian Galecki and Dumb Records was able to purchase a life-sized elephant from Springfield Autobody in town and begin an incredible journey down a path of dreams. Operation Dumb Elephant was announced in July, raised enough funds to purchase the elephant in August – and then the big move took place on September 21st all of this year. Since then the elephant has been painted bright green and just yesterday we announced plans to take our new friend in the Springfield Jaycee’s Downtown Christmas Parade on Saturday, November 21st.

Somewhere in there some video footage was taken by our friend Jeremie Bailey of Lincoln’s Legends and he was kind enough to compile it all into this five-minute long film. Check that out below. Enjoy!

elephantparade.jpg

It’s hard to believe it, but the holidays are right around the corner and we do have a few things cooking up at Black Sheep / Dumb Records headquarters. Of course we will be hosting a holiday show at Black Sheep this year- to be announced soon. Tonight we are announcing that Dumb Records has been confirmed for the 2016 Springfield Jaycee’s Christmas Parade downtown. Yes, this does mean that we are taking the giant green elephant.

Fingers crossed that everything is going to go as planned for this- right now the plan is for the giant Dumb Records green elephant to be pulled by the Miles T Shirts van. Of course we also plan on covering the elephant in Christmas lights and will also have Nighthawk inside the elephant playing the electric guitar. Check out Nighthawk’s hit single from a couple of Christmas’s ago “Lesbian Dragon” streaming below.

The Christmas parade is held downtown on Saturday, November 26th (less than two weeks) from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Check out a facebook event for that right here.

Continuing to try some new things here at Black Sheep- we are going to be kicking off the month of December here hard with a one dollar show happening on Friday, December 2nd. That’s right- a full five band show for only $1.00. That’s twenty cents a band. The lineup is all mostly local acts too. We have the brand new band Nagasaki on board which features members of Vonne and Starlorde. We also have the Peoria-based pop punk band Terribly Happy performing. Up before that is Animals With Human Names – a one man hip hop project that has started fairly recently in town that you may have not known about. Check out some Animals With Human Names streaming on the player below. We also have a couple of Black Sheep debuts for a couple of acts on this show. This includes “Famous Losers” from Jacksonville, Illinois. Then things are opening up with Kenyon D- local solo performer from the area.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is really only $1 (one whole dollar). Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our shows page for a good look at what else we have coming up at Black Sheep before the end of this year.
