dumbfestpaper_5announcement.jpg

Hey! It’s been a long time coming, but here is the final announcement and wave of bands for Dumb Fest 5 happening June 9th, 10th, and 11th right here in Springfield. It’s not even a full ten bands! GEEZ! Are we dropping the ball here or what! In addition to this sad excuse for full band announcement, we have to bring you news that Acrylics and Undone are both no longer performing at the fest. 😥 Today we only have six bands to announce:

LUMPY & THE DUMPERS (St. Louis, MO)
BLEEDING GUMS (Chicago, IL)
SQUELCH (Little Rock, AR)
FETISH (Houston, TX)
SPELL BREAKER (Springfield)
STATUES OF THE DEAD (Springfield)

Stream the demo from the hot new Little Rock band SQUELCH on the player below. And we are working on updating our Dumb Fe5t page on our site and also the Dumb Fe5t facebook event with all of those bands ASAP!

Are you ready to hear about the next show happening inside Dumb Records? It is coming up quick, happening in just ten days on Wednesday, May 17th. This one will feature noise rock / sludge group “Pussyfoot” coming from Chicago. Can we say that name on the radio? Not sure. You can stream some of Pussyfoot’s music on the player below. In addition to them we do also have two hit Springfield bands. This includes the incredibly hard hardcore band GRINN. Smile! Also opening things up is the new hit sensational wizardly act Spell Breaker, featuring members of SAP and Lincoln’s Tomb.

Check it out, this show will be happening inside the store at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for Black Sheep and all of Southtown right here.

Black Sheep Presents Cover Show Volume 6.5 at Bar None May 18th

covershow6.5_final.jpg

For the past three or four years we have been happy to team up with downtown bar Bar None (located at 245 S 5th street) with our annual cover show to offer this town and the 21 and up crowd a second performance of all of the acts. This year we got a little behind on picking out a date, but we are making things work over at Bar None for a second cover show on Thursday, May 18th! Don’t forget the Black Sheep Cover Show is now less than one week away and is still happening on Saturday, May 13th. The lineup for both shows is looking like it will be the exact same and goes as follows:

Livin’ Thing will be performing as Black Sabbath
Milestshirtsdotcom will be performing as Weezer
Gutterpriest will be performing as Divine

Nice! That one will start promptly at 9:00 over at Bar None (let’s say doors at 8:30 pm)? This one is ages 21 and up and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the Bar None show right here. Also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page for a list of shows happening in town outside of Black Sheep.

Tonight! Yes, we have a punk show going on at Black Sheep! We don’t even think we ever officially announced this one on our site. For this show tonight we have another punk band yet again coming to perform from outside the United States. That is the band Doxx from Canada. Check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Other than that this show is sure to be a hit because we have Springfield heavy hitter band Pryss on board also playing. Before that is a brand new Champaign/Urbana punk band Dream Probe (who are also playing Dumb Fe5t). Also on board is Nervous Wreck from Chicago. Opening things up is local act “Prowess” formerly known as Nagasaki. This will be their first gig with the new name.

Check out the show tonight starting right at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this spring and summer.

We are back here, and it’s the second day in a row for some new Springfield local music! Would you believe it, this is actually the first official demo releases that has been recorded by new hit recording studio Southtown Sound. Nice. This is a 6-track release by Springfield band “Prowess” formerly known as “Nagasaki”.

Prowess will be performing at Black Sheep tomorrow along with Doxx from Canada. Check out that new hot demo streaming below. Everyone would also like to thank Joe Coffey, best guy ever, for helping make this release possible. Head over to the Prowess bandcamp page to download the demo at your own price.

May 9th at Black Sheep: The F.U.F.S., Livin’ Thing

seriousband.jpg

We got a punk show coming up here at Black Sheep in just one week on Tuesday, May 9th. This one has seen quite a few lineup changes before we’ve even announced it hear and we are not sure what we are going to end up with for a final lineup, but we figure since it’s so close we better tell you about it right now! Even if there are only two bands! For this one we have the return of The F.U.F.S. hybrid Chicago / Oklahoma City band who last made an appearance inside Skank Skates for Dumb Fest 4-Ever last summer. Check out their music streaming on the player below. We also have Livin’ Thing- the Americana Rock N’ Roll band who will be performing a set of their own original hits. (You can catch Livin’ Thing perform at cover set as the band B**** S**** at the Black Sheep Cover Show on Saturday, May 13th).

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this spring / summer.

byetheater.jpg

We are sorry to be bringing some bad news here at the beginning of the month and we did have some exciting things planned with The Absurdist People’s Theatre Troupe, but unfortunately due to some unforseen circumstances that theatre troupe’s production of August Wilson’s Gem of The Ocean is being cancelled. The production was going to be held at Black Sheep May 19th, 20th, and 21st. Follow The Absurdist People’s Theatre Troupe on facebook to see if any more information is available later on about any sort of rescheduling or any later projects being planned.

Our shows calendar has also been updated.

Boon: “1st Street”

a3044484501_10.jpg

Earlier today we delivered a brand new band page on our site, and here is some brand new Springfield music from the band boon! Boon hasn’t been too active playing shows in recent months, but they have been hard at work with some new material which has been released recently. The band has released 1st Street – their third release and first since putting out the Southtown EP three years ago in 2014. Stream that new boon on the player below. There are also a few remaining CDs of this available for free inside Dumb Records, and you can head over to the band’s bandcamp page to download the tracks for free.

Boon does not have any live shows lined up as far as we know.
