Earlier this past summer a new project from both Springfield and Tornonto, Canada called “Small Man” was born and a demo was released under Prescience Tapes. This week this “Small Man” band will be performing their first ever shows, and even going on a week long tour. Unfortunately none of these shows are in Springfield or anywhere too close! This special international lineup of The Small Man features members of bands Mace, Asthma, Soap Scum, and Baghead (with members from Springfield, Toronto, and Hattiesburg). Here is what cities they will be stopping through starting on Tuesday:

10.17 – Kansas City, MO
10.18 – Oklahoma City, OK
10.19 – Denton, TX
10.20 – Hattiesburg, MS
10.21 – Birmingham, AL
10.22 – Lexington, KY

The last date in Lexington, Kentucky is Dispuppy Fest where other Springfield bands Livin’ Thing and Pryss will also be performing. Good luck to the Small Man out there!

October 28th Downtown Springfield Halloween Parade: Livin’ Thing & Pineapple RNR Play on Moving Dumb Records Elephant Float

paradewebflier.jpg

After our first ever show for plants was a huge success last night, we are continuing to embark on turning your typical rock n’ roll show inside out and break all of the standard rules on what a “gig” truly is. Tonight we are announcing the first ever MOVING GIG with bands Livin’ Thing and Pineapple Rock N’ Roll from St. Louis. Bands will be performing on a moving float on Saturday, October 28th as part of the first ever downtown Springfield Halloween Parade. Pineapple RNR feature members of Lumpy & The Dumpers, The Wad, and more. Check out some of their music below. The float will be powered by (or pulled by) Milestshirts, and will also be followed by some representation from Boof City Skate Shop. You can maybe expect some music thrown in there from Nighthawk or Gary & The Omnichords. Flier done by Connor, age 9.

Thank you to The Parent Place for allowing us this opportunity. You can find a facebook event for their downtown Halloween Parade right here. The parade will be going from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on 5th and 6th streets downtown. There will be candy, and we will be giving out plenty of Dumb Records tattoos. Find our facebook event for this moving show right here. That same night is also Hobgob at Bar None – starting at 9:00 pm.

Tonight is a very special night. Tonight will feature a show unlike any other show before at Black Sheep. That is because this show, is not for us humans. It is for the plants. That’s right, music for plants. A concert for plants. Plants. Tonight we have Brendan Wells Plant Music coming from Minneapolis, Minnesota. What is that? It is music for plants. Have a listen on the player below. We also have hip hop project “Plants with Human Names“, formerly “Animals with Human Names”. Emasculate Regression is also performing a special farm sounds set for this show. Before that is solo project of Clare Frachey, “Rella.” And opening things up we have Brian Galecki goofing off on the omnichord.

This show will start at 7:00 pm. Here is the big kicker – the show is $7, BUT if you bring your own *living* plant, the show is $3. So bring your plants! The Poetry Fight Club event that was held in Black Sheep this Friday was a good one too, we are happy to do what we can to support a growing and thriving poetry scene here in Springfield!

The lineup for this event is more of an open-mic format. Everyone comes and pays a $5 admission, and the floor is open to any poets, artists, or storytellers who would like to perform as far as we know. There is a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up in Southtown this fall.

Happy Saturday everyone! If you don’t have anything to do this October night, we have the perfect solution for you. Tonight at Black Sheep we are hosting a scary movie night. As you can see, we have a projector screen hooked up to a VHS player all hooked up and ready to go, along with state of the art stadium theater seating and sound. Tonight we will be showing two films – starting at 7:00 pm. The fans have voted for their top picks on the facebook event here. Maybe we will be taking another poll at Black Sheep tonight to see if the polls line up?

This is tonight at Black Sheep – first movie starts around 7:00 pm, the second movie starts at some point after the first movie is done. We’ll just be taking donations for Black Sheep. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else we have coming up this fall.

AR-170629795.jpg

Today is another Friday, so that means another episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show. Today we are pulling out a surprise special guest from here in town far beyond the usual scene of Black Sheep artists and performers – and that is NBC’s Boy Band™ finalist Devin Hayes. Devin is an active musician who currently tours the country and is determined to hit it hard now that his time on Boy Band is done. He had a hit single come out last month, “Right Here” – and will also be performing at Boondocks on this Sunday, October 8th. We’ll be talking to Devin about how far he’s gotten and where he plans on taking his career from here! Wow!

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs today and every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm. You can stream it live during that same time on wqna.net. Also check out our radio show page for a few downloadable episodes of the past.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Poetry Fight Club

21949899_1985426835034958_3332784276281045576_o

We have a pretty busy schedule this weekend at Black Sheep, and you can expect these next few events we have lined up to be a little bit different from the ordinary for us starting with a “Poetry Fight Club” tonight! Then we have a scary movie night tomorrow night and a plant show on Monday! The Poetry Fight Club is a newer group in Springfield we are allowing to to take over our space tonight. What’s this all about? Here’s a description of what to expect from a facebook event:

Poetry Fight Club is an intimate monthly event hosted by Johari Idusuyi and Emma Wilson. Each month, we propose a question, and then at the event, we all share a poem that centers around that month’s question. The goal is to promote the creation of new work through these prompts, and also to encourage attendees to get comfortable sharing what they’ve written.

For October we ask: What are you harvesting? This prompt is extremely open and flexible! Interpret it how ever you would like. To participate in Poetry Fight Club, bring a poem that answers this question to share with the group.

Bring a pen and paper too for a writing exercise.

This will kick off at 6:30 pm on Friday, October 6th. Feel free to come out if it sounds like something you would be interested in! Admission is $3. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep this autumn.
