New Arrivals This Week At Dumb Records

It’s another week at Southtown record store Dumb Records. Yesterday we told you that the store will be setting up a pop-up shop in the mall all day this Friday. The store will continue to be open at it’s regular location all of that day and the rest of this week. There are also a few new and used LPs in the shop that are new in this week. Let’s take a look at all of Dumb Records hours for this week and then get into the new arrivals:

Dumb Records At White Oaks Mall This Friday

As wacky as it sounds, this Friday at Springfield’s White Oaks Mall on the west end of town Dumb Records will be “taking over.” By taking over we mean that the record store will have a pop-up kiosk or booth set up on the lower level with a few crates full of records to sell. As far as we know this is on the lower level of the mall, next to the carousel and Santa Claus himself (pictured on the flier above).

Dumb Records will be set up at the mall all day Friday, from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. The store will also remain open at our regular location here in Southtown from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Also if you find us at the mall, use the secret code word “mynamekyle” and we will give you 10% off your purchase!

Today we are bringing you a video of the entire set of new Champaign/Urbana band “Copper Blue” from their show here at Black Sheep about a week ago on Sunday, November 29th. December 19th at Black Sheep: “The New Class” Hip Hop Showcase

Thanks to all who came out to the hip-hop show last night, now we have another one lined up that we are announcing today! This one is happening on Saturday, December 19th! There is a good chance this will be our last show of the year, so make sure to come out! This show is being called “The New Class” all-ages hip-hop show, being put on by Straight Drop Media and 217hiphop.com. Here is their description of the event:

straightdrophiphop.com has partnered with Bar Brawl Battle League to bring you “The New Class” an ALL AGES Hip-Hop showcase and battle event!

If anyone is interested in trying to line up a spot to perform on this show, there is a number listed on the flier (pictured above). The show will kick off at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Tours: Run Forever/Looming

It looks like Springfield band Looming will be heading out on tour this time for almost a full month with Run Forever from Pennsylvania. The two bands both put out new albums on No Sleep Records earlier this year. They will be heading out west to California and back on this tour. You can check out the dates below. Also check out a facebook event for the tour here where you can find more info on each individual show. Looming will be playing one more show in Springfield at Bar None on December 19th before heading out on this tour.

Tonight at Black Sheep: The MB, Brandon Austin, Roddrick Lemar, DJ Mayday

Tonight it’s a Saturday night at Black Sheep, and we are gonna have a lot of fun at this hip hop show that is happening. This show will feature Sherman-based artist The MB, which is short for “Mama’s Boy”. Also on this show is Brandon Austin. The “opener” for the show is Roddrick Lemar- but there is a long list of special guests that we will also see perform. This includes DJ for the night, DJ Mayday. Other guest artists include Ashley Whitehouse, David Gottschalk of the band Set Fire to Salem, and Garth Whitehead.

For this show, doors will open at 7:00 and things will start at 7:30 pm. Admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything coming up in Southtown this winter.

Infestation of Ass (IOA): Discography

While this is not any new Springfield music, we thought it was worth noting that the entire discography of old Springfield hardcore/grind band “Infestation of Ass” or “IOA” has been put up online. You can stream the 17-song discography on the player below, which was released in 2001. IOA was active during the late 90’s-early 00’s, and was one of the local Springfield bands that would have been playing shows at the all ages venue The Asylum when it was around. You can also find the discography on bandcamp where you can download the whole thing at your own price.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Earth Witch, Resinater, Orator, Green Messiah, Noesis

Tonight at Black Sheep we are going to get real heavy. There is a show happening tonight featuring some of the loudest and heaviest bands throughout Central Illinois! This includes Earth Witch from Champaign/Urbana, who will be playing tonight as they get ready to record at South Town Studio this weekend. Earth Witch will be bringing a couple of other C-U bands with them, including too-loud Resinater. The other Champaign act is the doom/sludge band Orator, whose music you can find streaming on the player below. We also have a couple of other bands added since the show is announced. One is a newer Springfield band called Green Messiah, who also played here last weekend. The other is metal band Noesis from areas in Central Illinois.

Looming: “Christmastime” (Smashing Pumpkins)

In honor of the holiday season and Christmas and eggnog and all of that stuff, No Sleep Records has released a small Christmas compilation featuring a new recording of Springfield band Looming covering “Christmastime” by The Smashing Pumpkins. You can stream the song below, or head over to the No Sleep Records bandcamp page where you can download the five-song compilation at your own price.

Looming will be playing one more local show this year at Bar None on December 19th for those of you who are over the age of 21, then will be heading out on tour with Run Forever for a month. We’ll have a website post up with those tour dates soon!

War Magic: “Pressure Vessel”

Springfield electronic dream-pop project War Magic are at it again with another song. Last month the band came out with a new hit single called “Stranger Station,” and since then they’ve released two more songs and have packaged all three together in a self-titled EP on their bandcamp page. Today we are bringing you one of those songs, called “Pressure Vessel” streaming below. The other new War Magic song is called “King of Responsibility: Part 1” and all of the songs can be found on the War Magic bandcamp page to be downloaded at your own price.

War Magic does not currently have any live performances lined up.
