New Year’s Eve is already less than one week away, have you made any plans yet? If you are still struggling to find something to do that night in town, there will be a Project Southtown-hosted New Year’s Eve Celebration the night of Thursday, December 31st at Skank Skates. The celebration will include some food/appetizers as well as some live music on the ramp from solo wonder-boy Nighthawk as well as his dad’s very own band- Rotten Monster.

Check out a facebook event and RSVP to the party right here. Things will kick off at 7:00 pm and likely go until midnight. Of course there will also be skating. Project Southtown is asking for a suggested donation of $20 to go towards the non-for-profit for the event. Black Sheep will be kicking back into normal shows starting the next day on January 1st! Looming: “Output”

Screen Shot 2015-12-25 at 8.37.51 AM.png

We are a little late to the news on this one, but Springfield band Looming have recently released a new music video for their song “Output” which was featured on Brooklyn Vegan last week. From the article:

Illinois’ Looming had one of the more unfairly overlooked records with this year’s Nailbiteron No Sleep. It’s indie rock with powerhouse vocals from Jessica Knight that any fans of Hop Along or Screaming Females should really check out. They’re wrapping up the year with a video for “Output” off the album, which premieres in this post. Directed by Erik Rojas, the video splices footage of the band performing with images of exploding shapes. Jessica says they “wanted the video to embody the concept of change and growth because ‘Output’ has a bottled up and stagnant feeling about it.”

You can find the video below. Looming will be heading out on tour with label-mates Run Forever starting tomorrow up until mid to late January. See the dates for that tour right here.

The first episode, which you can stream below, features Jeff Williams (also of NIL8) as the featured artist, and Animals With Human Names (solo project of Jim Whitehead) as the featured musician. The episode is also complete with different clips and breaks, including a trip to right here in Southtown to take a closer look at Skank Skates and Colin Eigenmann. Check out the video below, and “subscribe” to The Studio Show youtube channel to be kept in the loop on when more episodes are released.

Like the previous three years we have the voting split into categories of best albums/releases, best songs, and best shows that happened in the year 2015. This is limited to all Springfield music- not just shows or bands that frequently play Black Sheep. Once the results are in and collected, we will have different members of Springfield bands and different people involved in the Springfield music/arts scene do write-ups on each winner. Check out the results from last year’s poll below:
