Tonight’s the big night! The Black Sheep will be celebrating a whole 11 years of our existence (first show was September 16th, 2005). It sure has been a wild ride, and things might be getting weirder as we go into our twelfth year- we will be moving a giant elephant into the lot next to Dumb Records today at 5:15 pm if everything goes as planned and could use some help! The show tonight has gone down to three bands so we are pushing back start time to 7:30 pm right on the dot. Tonight we have rock n’ roll ridiculousness Livin’ Thing, who recently just got back from a world tour. Stream their music on the player below. Also tonight is a performance by hardcore band GRINN. Then opening up tonight is a new Springfield band – “Synzu” who will be making their Black Sheep debut tonight at the anniversary show.

Again the show tonight starts right at 7:30 pm. Come at 5:00 pm if you want to see us or help move a giant elephant, weather permitting. Show admission tonight is $5. Find a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our upcoming shows page right here.

Come out and support him, and bring a chair! Also playing the show will be PJBaby, an extension of the jams by PJ Famicon of Super famicon. War Magic will also be returning to the stage so give them a shoutout because we haven’t heard from them in awhile! Linder is a solo set consisting of Tara Lynn Tracy from Take my bike…please! hailing from Bloomington Normal, IL, and Ceiling lust is a local act containing Kyle Ratliff of Our Lady and Bedroom Wounds. This should be a heartfelt show so mark your calendars!
This show will be kicking off at 7pm with a door fee of $7 on the evening of November 9th! We will have hot coffee and tea for sale! Here’s a Facebook event  and a link to our shows page for digs on other shows coming up!

Black Sheep Band Lotto 2016!

Photo on 9-2-16 at 4.53 PM.jpg

It’s that time of year everyone! That’s right, Black Sheep Band Lotto is BACK AT IT for another round of wild, woozy, wacked out fun and the slots are OPEN for anyone brave enough to put their name in the box.
First off, let’s dig out the 411 for those of you who don’t know what’s going on. Here’s how it works: people will put their name (and their name ONLY) in THIS box, which will be sitting in Dumb Records. The names will get drawn randomly at the Black Sheep 11 Year Anniversary Show and the bands will then be formed! If you’re curious, just know that we’ve done this before and you can check out the results of previous band lottos by checking out these photos from the 2014 band lotto as well as the video from the 2015 band lotto!
This is not for the weak minded or half-hearted. By doing this, you’ll be joining a BAND which means there will be people in your life that rely on your commitment, talents and ambitions to complete a project together. Another way of wording that is basically, don’t put your name in the box if you don’t fully intend on playing in a band with randomly drawn people that you may or may not know. Don’t put other people’s names in the box either, just yours! This is definitely something you’ll want to encourage as many of your friends to pursue, because that heightens your chances of playing with people you know! The thrill it will give to play with people you don’t know is definitely an added bonus. With all this being said, in the end it doesn’t really matter how “good” or “bad” your band is! This POINT of this cool thing is for people to work with other people to make something bigger than themselves. Even if you don’t know how to play an instrument very well, go in with the intention of learning as well as having fun or making something really weird, different or somehow inspiring. Everyone needs a little spice in their life, including you! So branch out! Go to Dumb Records today and enter into the 2016 Band lotto!

September 6th at Black Sheep: Kevin Seconds, Jeff Williams, Austin Connelly, Spooky Poo

13725094_10154240325960619_6706933170658824370_o.jpg

Wow, how could we miss telling you all about this show until just now? This is going to be a great one, and it’s happening in just a little less than one week! We have the return of Kevin Seconds– the front person of legendary punk band 7 Seconds (active since 1980) returning to Black Sheep. Kevin is currently an acoustic singer/songwriter and did perform at Black Sheep years ago in 2011. It seems pretty fitting that we also have Jeff Williams (of Springfield legendary punk band NIL8) also doing a solo set on this show. Catch a rare set of Jeff performing some stripped down NIL8 songs. Before that we have Austin Connelly of the current legendary Springfield punk band GRINN. Will Austin be performing some acoustic GRINN songs? We’ll see. Opening things up we have some of Decatur’s best acoustic emo jams with Spooky Poo.

This show will start 7:00 pm (that’s next Tuesday!) and admission is $8. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in September.
