Happy Birthday Mak!

Everyone say Happy Birthday to Mak. They have been working the dumb records counter for YEARS now, and doing a great job!

Tonight there is a show, featuring Colorado hardcore bands Polish and Flak, supported by local hardcore bands Shroud and Fatal Dose. Also on the lineup is Unthynck which is actually nu metal so hopefully not every band will sound exactly the same.

Friday Release highlights for this week

– MEAT PUPPETS II – this classic 1984 SST Records album is getting remastered / re-issued. amazing it’s own country/punk/alternative way.
– MAZZY STAR “So Tonight That I Might See” another 1993 classic going through some sort of “RSD essentials” reissue, on purple black smoky splatter vinyl or something. I ordered 10 copies of this and have been told we are only getting 3.
– THE CHATS “High Risk Behaviour” – we have never been able to get any of these Australian punkers’ albums and now we finally can! This was their 2020 debut. I believe these are coming from Australia too so I’ve been hold hang tight and proceed with caution, shipping might be delayed but they are coming in the coming weeks.
– There’s two COWBOY BEBOP related records by The Seatbelts. anime fans rejoice! I’m not sure exactly what’s different about these than the normal soundtrack but as fans of the show know, the songs vary on a wide range of emotion, so it kind of makes sense to focus in on certain vibes as the straight up soundtrack is a real emotional rollercoaster. Anyway, maybe it’s just a cash grab as they know we’re going to eat this up.
– USHER has a new album out? “Coming Home”? Available in a bunch of different exclusive color variants? Is Usher performing the Superbowl halftime show or something? Do people care about a new Usher album?

Pepperoni’s pick this week is WetLeg!

“Happy Grammy’s week, I am here tonight with another pick – had to pick a GRAMMY WINNER, and it’s gotta be WET LEG with their self-titled debut… actually wait, this won best alternative album at last year’s Grammys. I know they were at this year’s but I guess that was for best re-mixed album or something. Anyways, this UK indie / pop duo had one of my favorite albums to come out a couple of years ago in 2022 and here we are 2 years later and it still holds up, I am ready for a follow-up. I recommend listening if you haven’t.”

Oh and lastly, did everyone notice Taylor is releasing her next album on April 19th, THE DAY BEFORE RECORD STORE DAY??? We don’t understand what this means for RSD, is Taylor trying to 1-up the whole event? Will there be an exclusive vinyl variant or something that comes out on RSD???? We are eagerly waiting to find out!

And We’re back!

Starting right now, I’m gonna be posting once a week on this site to fill you in on new record releases, shows, and whatever else is going on. I’m not sure who even looks at WordPress blog sites in 2024, but maybe this will be fun for the few parents who are trying to figure out where their kids keep going every weekend.

I’ve updated almost every page on this site with current info. Most notably, our band pages are updated to reflect who’s actually active these days (that we know of). I haven’t listed every active band but I’ve tried my best to archive all the bands that don’t appear to be active anymore. If you have a band in the Springfield area and would like to get on on the site, send us an email at dumbresbooking@gmail.com with your info!

Here’s our upcoming Friday 2/3/2024 vinyl release highlights!

– Hippy jam band PHISH’s 2002 album “Round Room” getting reissued on 180 gram split-colored vinyl
– A few re-issues from indie alternative band RAINBOW KITTEN SURPRISE, the album we are stocking the most copies of is “Seven + Mary” originally released in 2013.
– THE VASELINES “The Way Of The Vaselines” – indie band formed as a duo in Scotland 1986 on Sub Pop Records and have multiple songs that were famously covered by Nirvana
(Kiss, Kiss Molly’s Lips) (re-issue)
– J MASCIS of DINOSAUR JR. has a new solo album “What Do We Do Now” out on clear purple vinyl
– The soundtrack to the newest HUNGER GAMES movie on orange vinyl, featuring a number of artists including Olivia Rodrigo.

We have a mostly hardcore show Saturday with Chicago hardcore bands Fuerza Bruta and Home Invasion, supported by Springfield and surrounding bands No Guard, Discern, and False Negative.

This week Pepperoni has picked Beach Boys – Pet Sounds

Pep picks out a new record each week which we try our best to always keep in stock. These may be essential records for any vinyl collector or maybe it’s just what Pepperoni wants so what ya gonna do? We’ve been doing this for a while, there are over 100 titles Pep has picked so far!

Oh, also this week Pep got a sneak peek at the upcoming downtown cat café called the Cats’ Pyjamas. Pepperoni is looking forward to having new cat friends downtown

Thanks for reading, maybe leave a comment of you want to see in future posts?

Wow This Site is Out of Date

Do people even read blog sites anymore? What are we even doing??

Well maybe we’ll give this a shot again. I just wanted to let you all know that we’ll start slowly updating the pages on this site while preserving a lot of the historical Springfield punk archive as I know there are 3 or 4 of you out there who like the idea this still exists on the internet.

At least with a few updates once in a while we won’t have parents calling us about a show that happened 3 years ago since our show calendar has never been updated. Hope you have a blessed day

Tonight at Dumb Records: Bottom Bracket, Attic Salt, Tilt Warning

Oh boy! It feels like forever since we’ve made one of these posts… TONIGHT – it looks like we have a show happening at Dumb Records for the first time in 1.5 years. We have a new stage. We have a new arcade. It’s going to be the first time we’ve gotten to use both of those for a show.

Before we get into the bands for tonight, let’s go over our updated policies regarding attendees and COVID-19:

  • All show attendees will be required to provide proof of at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine or negative COVID test within the last 72 hoursmasks are required at these events for all attendees.
  • Masks are required at these events for all attendees.

*Proof of vaccine can be in the form of either your physical COVID-19 vaccination card or a photo on your phone. Okay? Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way here’s who’s playing tonight: we’ve got… Bottom Bracket who put out their full length album I Don’t Care Enough To Stay right at the start of the pandemic. We’ve got Attic Salt, who also put out an album, Get Wise right in the middle of the pandemic. AND we’ve got a brand new band called “Tilt Warning” that formed during the pandemic.

All of this starts at Dumb Records at 7:00 pm. Admission is just $5. Find a facebook event here. I think that’s it.

Updated Show Attendance Policies Regarding Upcoming Shows And Covid-19

The first shows that we have lined up at Dumb Records are coming up quick – this Saturday, August 14th, and Monday, August 16th. It’s pretty clear that when these shows were booked on the calendar and the decision was made to move forward with them, cases of COVID-19 in our region and country overall seamed to be in a much better place then they are now. Because COVID-19 is still a very real threat to our community, we are going to be taking needed precautions to make sure the shows we have lined up are as safe as possible.

We are still in uncertain times and we currently do not have any other indoor shows officially announced other than the upcoming two – but we will be likely enforcing this policy until further notice. The alley show with Laura Jane Grace on August 28th is a free event and outdoors – but as of right now it is safe to say we will all be masking up in the alley, and we are asking for those not vaccinated to not come to that event. You can likely expect a post regarding that show and policies for that at some point before the event.

August 28th In Our Alley: Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!), Cole Bridges, Jessica Knight, Ricki Marvel

Amazing… just, amazing. You may have heard the big news by now, but if now – on Saturday, August 28th we’ve got one for the books coming up in the alleyway between Dumb Records and Good Heart Tattoo. Laura Jane Grace – singer and guitarist for the punk rock band Against Me! – and also “notable for being one of the first highly visible punk rock musicians to come out as transgender, after she publicly came out in May 2012″ – will be performing.

In addition to LJG we have a few other solo acts performing. Cole Bridges is coming up from St. Louis – a solo musician formerly from Champaign. Jessica Knight of the band Looming will also be playing, as well as Ricki Marvel also from here in Springfield.

The show will start exactly at 7:00 pm and it is free. With conditions of the pandemic still being up in the air, there might be a strong mask suggestion even if the show is outdoors. We don’t have a facebook event for this one yet, sorry. Laura Jane Grace released her solo album Stay Alive last year on Polyvinyl Records. You can stream that on the player below.
