The Soil & The Sun Added To Horse Show 2014

tsats

Our buds and dads over at The Radon Lounge have made a final announcement for their Horse Show happening this year on Saturday, June 21st. The final lineup announcement is  for big time orchestral rock project The Soil & The Sun from Michigan. The Soil & The Sun made an appearance at The Radon Lounge last year for a show which was mentioned in a few votes for our “best Springfield shows of 2014” poll.

This now completes the lineup to the 2014 Horse Show, which includes two stages full of acts all day long. You can head over to the 2014 Horse Show page on the Radon site for the full lineup and more info. There is also a facebook page for the Horse Show right here.

May 17th at The Radon Lounge: Kansas Bible Company, Looming, Derrick Streibig

may-show-1

It’s been a little while since The Radon Lounge have had a show in their basement venue, and we are excited to tell you about this little return-show for them happening next month! The Radon Lounge hosted a show at Black Sheep earlier this month for King of Prussia and Case Conrad and it was a great success. This show is happening on Saturday, May 17th. This show will feature the 12-person project Kansas Bible Company from Nashville, Tennessee. Find their music streaming below. This show will be the first ever Radon performance by the Springfield indie pop band Looming, who play Black Sheep pretty frequently. This show will also feature a performance by solo musician Derrick Streibig from Girard, Illinois.

This show will begin at 7:00 pm and will be $5 at The Radon Lounge. If you don’t know where that is then you can email radonlounge@gmail.com for the address. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page for a list of shows happening in town outside of Black Sheep.

The Radon Lounge recently announced three more bands that will be playing The Horse Show. This includes Springfield slime punk band Soap Scum, who will be playing on the “garage stage”. Indie rock band from Cinncinatti, Ohio The Saudades will also be playing on the “barn stage”. The third act that was recently announced is David Lasley, who has performed at The Radon Lounge before.

Radon Lounge Announce Horse Show on June 21st

insomniacfIt may still be winter, but we are starting to see some plans for the summer of 2014 brew up in Springfield and the surrounding areas. Springfield house venue The Radon Lounge has recently announced plans for a second Horse Show, which will be a free summer festival located at The Refuge Range (not at The Radon Lounge). The Radon Lounge have announced some new additions to the festival on their website:

First, TWO STAGES!!!! We will be hosting the Barn Stage and the Garage Stage this year. The Barn Stage will be setup like last year, except it will primarily feature bands from the folksy side of the music spectrum. The Garage Stage will feature bands from the harder side of rock ‘n roll.

This year we’ll be hosting around 20 bands, mostly gems from right here in Springfield, IL, some midwest Radon favorites, and beyond. We’re still working on the lineup, but it wouldn’t be very festive to announce a festival without some sort of sneak peek, read on!

Along with announcing the festival on June 21st, the Radon Lounge have also announced a few bands that have confirmed for the festival. They are Insomniac Folklore (pictured above) from Portland, Oregon, Springfield songwriter Amy Benton, and Peoria ska band Must Build Jacuzzi. You can also hear some tunes from Must Build Jacuzzi on the player embedded below.

In order to put on the Horse Show as an event free to the public, The Radon Lounge needs your help. They have a donation link set up on their festivals page, where you can also read more about the festival. We plan on keeping you updated on the Horse Show 2014 lineup as more bands and surprises are announced. Until then check our Springfield shows page for a good look at events in town happening outside of Black Sheep.

Holiday Shows at The Poon Lagoon + The Radon Lounge

christmasexpl-2013This Thanksgiving we are thankful for our sister house venues in Springfield who will be doing it big this holiday season. Two of them will be doing it big on the same night- Saturday, December 14th. There is no show going on at Black Sheep that night, but you have no excuse to stay at home with these cool house shows going on.

The first is happening at The Radon Lounge (flier pictured above). This is the Radon Lounge’s Christmas Explosion, which is also a celebration of The Radon Lounge’s two years of being a house venue in Springfield. Congrats to them! We have been promised that this show/party will be filled with tons of surprises including bands, a potluck,
bingo, a Christmas sweater contest, free arcade, and a special Radon gift??? Let’s get to the bands. The show will feature Von Strantz from Indiana and also Aaron Lee Martin from Wichita, Kansas. We might also see a surprise appearance from Springfield folk-punk bandits Lovecow? You can see the full post about the Christmas Explosion on the Radon site right here.  Oh, and the show starts at 6:00 pm and if you don’t know the address you will have to email radonlounge@gmail.com.

The other house show is happening at The Poon Lagoon and it is being called The Poon Lagoon Winter Fiasco! This show will feature Bloomington IL band Werepire Day, who have played Black Sheep a few times in recent years. There will also be a couple of rad local bands. This includes video game influenced Like… With Jetpacks, and Rochester powerpop band The Science Of. You can find a facebook event for that show right here. That show starts at 7:00 pm and for the address you will have to ask a punk.

Error Records and Radon Lounge on Dumb Records

dumbphotoThis thanksgiving we at Black Sheep are thankful for our supportive friends and music community. We are extra thankful for our sister venues Error Records (Champaign) and The Radon Lounge, who have had some great things to say about our Dumb Records announcement that we made earlier this month. You can check out the Error Records post on Dumb Records right here. The Radon Lounge had some great things to say, which we’ve included below.

Although what you may know about the Black Sheep Cafe, plus the logo design, may lead you think think this will be a good place for drug deals, you would be dumb. We at the Radon Lounge are excited about this as it will be a different take on the record store approach that currently exists in Springfield, IL. There are a couple places other than thrift stores where you can buy vinyl records in this town, but this will be the first one to be entirely devoted to the local scene. And by scene, we’re talking about a cool  and safe place for the kids to hang. A place where you can find records (vinyl, CD, cassette, 8track?) from local bands, bands who have toured Springfield, and classics to add to your collection.

There will be music available for just about every preference and we believe this place exists for the love of music, love of the community, and not just to make some money. Plus this should be viewed as a genuine effort to revitalize a neglected part of town. It will be located near 11th and South Grand, just around the corner from Black Sheep and will be opening sometime early next year.

Wow thanks Jeff! The Radon Lounge are also gearing up for their two-year anniversary celebration as a house venue in Springfield and their Christmas Explosion, which you can find more about right here.
