Gnargoyle + Diaper Rash: “Shitty Splitty”

a0359626081_10.jpg

Here is a release that we have been waiting to post for a LONG time now (whoops). Did you know that Champaign/Urbana-based punk band Gnargoyle and Springfield’s favorite baby band (R.I.P?) Diaper Rash put out a split release together earlier this summer? It was called the Shitty Splitty and was released under Kuloolu Records. The Kuloolu website says the release was available on a limited number of cassettes, but we sure have not seen any of those around Dumb Records or Black Sheep headquarters. You can check out the split below- that’s six songs of Gnargoyle and then a bunch of Diaper Rash songs mashed into one track. Head over to the Kuloolu Records bandcamp to download the release at your own price.

The last Diaper Rash show happened to be a surprise set during an aftershow for Dumb Fest 4-Ever this past summer. Will Big Baby ever play again? We don’t know.

Good afternoon! Is it too late for us to tell you there is a show happening at Black Sheep tonight? This show is to be for “fans of diet indie and garage pop,” but really you will probably have a good time no matter what you are a fan of. For this show we have the indie punk band Schwervon from Shawnee, Kansas. You can find their music streaming on the player below. Then we also have the spooky garage pop band SAP, from right here in our own backyard. Then up is nothing but Nectar from Champaign/Urbana Illinois. Opening things up for this one we have a solo performance by Kate Ridge from right here in town.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where you can have a good look at all of the shows coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Real Live Tigers, The Blues, Bungalow, End Times Trio

thebluesweb

What’s this happening tonight at Black Sheep? It’s a real life folk and jazz show, mixing things up a bit. Tonight we have Real Live Tigers – a solo folk artist from Austin, Texas who did play Black Sheep before a couple of years ago in the summer of 2014. We might have hosted the show outside by our back door? Either way, check out some of Real Live Tigers’s music streaming below. Then the other touring act we have on this bill is “The Blues” from Oakland California. No, that’s not the hockey team there- they are a two-piece experimental jazz project. Going back to the folk end of things we have a Springfield based husband and wife duo called “Bungalow.” Then starting this show off, it’s only fitting that we have the End Times Trio– Springfield freeform jazz project lined up. It has also been a minute since we’ve seen them perform on the stage of Black Sheep.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and for admission we are asking for $6. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

You can stream their newest and fourth full length album on the player below. In addition to Sonic Avenues, this show will also be the debut of a new Springfield band called Starter Jackets, featuring members of Hospital Job. Opening things up we have the hip hop / electronic project Animals With Human Names and that’s it for now!

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at all of the other shows coming up at Black Sheep the rest of the fall.

It’s about time of year when everyone is starting making plans for October 31st and Halloween weekend. Did we announce yet that the Black Sheep Halloween show is happening this year on Saturday, October 22nd? If not expect a post for that very soon! Today we are bringing you news that the annual Springfield tradition of “Hobgob” is happening this year at Bar None on Saturday, October 29th. This show is ages 21+ but for those of you who are younger, be sure to come out to The Black Sheep Halloween show on October 22nd! For the Hobgob Bar None show, long running Springfield punk band NIL8 will be performing. Not only that, but NIL8 has a special set lined up featuring their original lineup from some point in the 1980’s. You can expect to hear much of the band’s older material at this show. In addition to that there will also be performances by Springfield punk bands boon and Livin’ Thing.

Happy Cassette Store Day! In honor of celebrating cassettes and what some might consider to be dead formats, we are bringing news of some classic Springfield albums being re-released on cassette. Sunday Drive Records based out of Texas have teamed up with long running Springfield emo band Park to release all three of the band’s full albums on cassette in honor of the tenth anniversary of the band’s last album- Building A Better _____. You can expect Dumb Records to carry all three of the cassettes when they are released later this fall. From the Sunday Drive Records page:

Today we are extremely excited to announce that we will be releasing Park‘s Lobster Records discography on cassette tape. In honor of “Building A Better ______” turning 10 years old this year, the band, Lobster Records and SDR have been working on reissuing these albums on cassette for months.

All 3 acclaimed albums will be available on cassette tape for the very first time, with variants picked by Park’s Ladd Mitchell. Each album is limited to 50 (25 of each variant) and include 4 panel j-cards w/ lyrics, credits, and photography/art.
