Happy Birthday Mak!

Everyone say Happy Birthday to Mak. They have been working the dumb records counter for YEARS now, and doing a great job!

Tonight there is a show, featuring Colorado hardcore bands Polish and Flak, supported by local hardcore bands Shroud and Fatal Dose. Also on the lineup is Unthynck which is actually nu metal so hopefully not every band will sound exactly the same.

Friday Release highlights for this week

– MEAT PUPPETS II – this classic 1984 SST Records album is getting remastered / re-issued. amazing it’s own country/punk/alternative way.
– MAZZY STAR “So Tonight That I Might See” another 1993 classic going through some sort of “RSD essentials” reissue, on purple black smoky splatter vinyl or something. I ordered 10 copies of this and have been told we are only getting 3.
– THE CHATS “High Risk Behaviour” – we have never been able to get any of these Australian punkers’ albums and now we finally can! This was their 2020 debut. I believe these are coming from Australia too so I’ve been hold hang tight and proceed with caution, shipping might be delayed but they are coming in the coming weeks.
– There’s two COWBOY BEBOP related records by The Seatbelts. anime fans rejoice! I’m not sure exactly what’s different about these than the normal soundtrack but as fans of the show know, the songs vary on a wide range of emotion, so it kind of makes sense to focus in on certain vibes as the straight up soundtrack is a real emotional rollercoaster. Anyway, maybe it’s just a cash grab as they know we’re going to eat this up.
– USHER has a new album out? “Coming Home”? Available in a bunch of different exclusive color variants? Is Usher performing the Superbowl halftime show or something? Do people care about a new Usher album?

Pepperoni’s pick this week is WetLeg!

“Happy Grammy’s week, I am here tonight with another pick – had to pick a GRAMMY WINNER, and it’s gotta be WET LEG with their self-titled debut… actually wait, this won best alternative album at last year’s Grammys. I know they were at this year’s but I guess that was for best re-mixed album or something. Anyways, this UK indie / pop duo had one of my favorite albums to come out a couple of years ago in 2022 and here we are 2 years later and it still holds up, I am ready for a follow-up. I recommend listening if you haven’t.”

Oh and lastly, did everyone notice Taylor is releasing her next album on April 19th, THE DAY BEFORE RECORD STORE DAY??? We don’t understand what this means for RSD, is Taylor trying to 1-up the whole event? Will there be an exclusive vinyl variant or something that comes out on RSD???? We are eagerly waiting to find out!

And We’re back!

Starting right now, I’m gonna be posting once a week on this site to fill you in on new record releases, shows, and whatever else is going on. I’m not sure who even looks at WordPress blog sites in 2024, but maybe this will be fun for the few parents who are trying to figure out where their kids keep going every weekend.

I’ve updated almost every page on this site with current info. Most notably, our band pages are updated to reflect who’s actually active these days (that we know of). I haven’t listed every active band but I’ve tried my best to archive all the bands that don’t appear to be active anymore. If you have a band in the Springfield area and would like to get on on the site, send us an email at dumbresbooking@gmail.com with your info!

Here’s our upcoming Friday 2/3/2024 vinyl release highlights!

– Hippy jam band PHISH’s 2002 album “Round Room” getting reissued on 180 gram split-colored vinyl
– A few re-issues from indie alternative band RAINBOW KITTEN SURPRISE, the album we are stocking the most copies of is “Seven + Mary” originally released in 2013.
– THE VASELINES “The Way Of The Vaselines” – indie band formed as a duo in Scotland 1986 on Sub Pop Records and have multiple songs that were famously covered by Nirvana
(Kiss, Kiss Molly’s Lips) (re-issue)
– J MASCIS of DINOSAUR JR. has a new solo album “What Do We Do Now” out on clear purple vinyl
– The soundtrack to the newest HUNGER GAMES movie on orange vinyl, featuring a number of artists including Olivia Rodrigo.

We have a mostly hardcore show Saturday with Chicago hardcore bands Fuerza Bruta and Home Invasion, supported by Springfield and surrounding bands No Guard, Discern, and False Negative.

This week Pepperoni has picked Beach Boys – Pet Sounds

Pep picks out a new record each week which we try our best to always keep in stock. These may be essential records for any vinyl collector or maybe it’s just what Pepperoni wants so what ya gonna do? We’ve been doing this for a while, there are over 100 titles Pep has picked so far!

Oh, also this week Pep got a sneak peek at the upcoming downtown cat café called the Cats’ Pyjamas. Pepperoni is looking forward to having new cat friends downtown

Thanks for reading, maybe leave a comment of you want to see in future posts?

Wow This Site is Out of Date

Do people even read blog sites anymore? What are we even doing??

Well maybe we’ll give this a shot again. I just wanted to let you all know that we’ll start slowly updating the pages on this site while preserving a lot of the historical Springfield punk archive as I know there are 3 or 4 of you out there who like the idea this still exists on the internet.

At least with a few updates once in a while we won’t have parents calling us about a show that happened 3 years ago since our show calendar has never been updated. Hope you have a blessed day

July 16th at Dumb Records: Kangaroo Court, Pucker Up, Wettail

Good morning! Here we are comin’ out of no where again to let you know about a show that is coming up at Dumb Records on Saturday, July 16th. This one is the next show happening at our space.

“Scream Like Hell” is not the name of a band, it is just the name of the show. There are three bands on this show. At the top of the lineup is “Kangaroo Court” from Champaign / Urbana. We’ve embedded a recent music video of theirs below for you to check out. Sounds like they are bringing the rock! Also bringing the rock, or hardcore punk-rock is Pucker Up from right here in Springfield! They do have a demo recorded, click the link on their name to listen to it! The third band on the show is “Wettail” playing some type of garage punk from Bloomington, Illinois.

This show… all of our shows start at 7:00pm but the flier for this one says 7:30pm. Admission is $10. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also check out our upcoming shows page on our site, which we are working on!!

Tonight at Dumb Records: “Harry’s Houseparty” (Harry Styles Fan Event)

Good morning, and happy weekend. This is a post to let you know about a fan event we’ve got going on at Dumb Records tonight. Not the normal type of event we have in our space, but a new group known as “Swift Springfield” comprised of a few Sangamon CEO students organized a Taylor Swift fan event at our space earlier this spring and it went over very well, so here we are again for another one!

Tonight, June 10th, is a fan event for English pop singer and actor Harry Styles! Harry Styles had a new album come out last month called “Harry’s House” and we have plenty of copies on vinyl right here in the store. Tickets are being sold online right here through “Swift Springfield”. We will be raffling off a ONE DIRECTION turntable and also one copy of “Harry’s House” on vinyl! That kicks off tonight at 7:00 pm.

Check our shows page for a small list of shows (with bands) that we have coming up.

Saturday, June 4th at Dumb Records: Rig Time, Shroud, Dwell, Pariah

Look at this, this is our next show happening here at Dumb Records. It is happening on Saturday, June 4th (that’s this Saturday). Sorry, we haven’t been making website posts. Maybe we are again, maybe we’re not. Maybe we’ll do a newsletter again someday, maybe not. Either way, we are still putting out records all of the time and shows are still happening.

For this show we have the band Rig Time! coming from La Crosse, Wisconsin. How fun! That band played at Black Sheep once, maybe back in 2018 or something. Yeah, 2018. That was 4 years ago now and a different era. Stream that band’s music on the player below if you feel like it. Also on this band is local band Shroud. They are heavy as h*ck. (But what band isn’t heavy on any of these shows nowadays, right? lmao). Did Shroud release a demo yet? idk. Dwell is another band playing this show, from the Alton, Illinois area. Then opening things up is the second(?) ever show for the new local band Pariah.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for this one here. Check out our shows page, which only has two shows listed right now. Check out our underground forum that no one is on, for fun!

Tonight at Dumb Records: Gates To Hell, Ballista, Prevention, Direct Measure, Hemlock

Good morning, it has been a while since we fired up the ol’ website. We figure today we’ll give it a try again. Maybe somewhere out there is reading this, maybe not. Anyways, tonight we have a hardcore show happening here at Dumb Records.

Tonight’s lineup includes touring hardcore act “Gates To Hell.” They are from Louisville, Kentucky. You can stream their new live album on the bandcamp player below. Gates To Hell are on tour with Ballista from Dallas, Texas, another hardcore band! Local legends on this show tonight include Springfield hardcore band Prevention (who will be playing last in the lineup if we had to guess). Also Direct Measure from the St. Louis area who are no strangers to our space. Opening things up is the newer Springfield heavy band “Hemlock”.

The show tonight is at 7:00 pm and admission is $10. We are recommending masks as we are once again entering another wave of COVID-19 in our area. Find a facebook event for this one right here.

Join the discussion for this topic on our underground forum!

Tonight at Dumb Records: Fujiko, High Meadows, Emily Hough, The Complaint Line, Pierce Havenar

Good morning! It’s been a while since we’ve made a website post of any kind, and we probably never even announced this show that’s happening tonight here at Dumb Records, but here is the info for it anyway!

Okay, tonight we’ve got a show. We finally have the alternative rock band Fujiko coming from Peoria! This one has been a long time coming – they were going to be playing our anniversary show that we had to postpone from back in January. And here they are! Stream some music on the player below. They will be coming with another Peoria “alternative” band, High Meadows! We are excited for the both to take the Dumb Records stage for the first time. Also taking the stage for the first time is Emily Hough – who has performed here before but in the days before we had a stage! Aaaand The Complaint Line, long time Springfield alternative 90’s rockers, will also finally be performing at our space for the first time as well! Opening things up is a newer and younger solo artist, Pierce Havenar!

That’s 5 acts, starting at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook for this one right here. I’m not even sure if our shows page is updated right now.

April 15th At Dumb Records: (Rescheduled) Jazz Show With End Times Trio, Baker/Davis/Verploegh

Okay here’s a non-hardcore show announcement for you all! Actually this is just an announcement for a show that we have re-scheduled, similar to one that was supposed to take place in January. This one is actually happening on Friday, April 15th now and it is a jazz and art show!

This show will start at 7:00 pm, and entry this time around is just $5. Find a facebook event for this one here. It is likely we will have our shows page re-booted up by the end of the day today. For no we have no rules regarding covid for this show!

March 26th at Dumb Records: Si Dos Quiere, Snuffed, Shroud, Dwell, Subversion

Now it’s time for us to start announcing more shows! Here is another hardcore show (don’t worry we got some other non-hardcore shows coming up to announce later) – happening on Saturday, March 26th.

This show features touring act “Si Dos Quiere” from Chicago. They are a hardcore band and you can stream their latest three-song release on the player below. Also from Chicago and hardcore/punk band we have the return of SNUFFED, who played here at some point last year and features members of other groups formerly from Central Illinois in the Black Sheep years. Right in the middle of the lineup is Springfield / Decatur / Central Illinois newer hardcore group SHROUD, who recently had a demo come out. Before them is “DWELL” which is a hardcore band from a little drive South of here in Alton, Illinois. Opening things up is a brand new band from here that we know little about called Subversion!

All of that starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. We’re still working on updating our shows page, sorry. What’s our covid policy for this show? We are no longer checking vaccination status at the door and for this one we will probably no longer be requiring masks!
