Scott Blacula to Release Demo for Free at Tin Can Pub This Saturday

Local Grindcore/Metal favorites Scott Blacula have recently announced plans to release and give away their first demo for free at an upcoming show at The Tin Can Pub this saturday.  The show is also with Emperor Norton, starts at 11:00 pm and is $4.  You can check out two of the seven tracks from the “Jobbers Demo” on their bandcamp player below.  The rest of the album will also go up for free download this weekend on bandcamp.  The band had this to say:

We at Scott Blacula would like to apologize for any potential damage the Jobbers demo may cause your eardrums. We specialize in obnoxiously loud noises, earth-shattering bass notes, and incomprehensible shrieking. Please listen at your own risk.

We Need Editors!!

Here at blacksheepspringfield.com, we do our best to stay on top of things.  We have been trying hard to deliver at least one news post a day as well as keep our shows pages and band pages up to date.  However, the few of us working on the site are starting to realize that we are not able to keep up with these tasks on our own.  We need more editors helping us keep things updated!  If you are interested in helping write posts, seek out news stories, update show or band pages, etc. then we need you!  Email us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com if you are interested in becoming an editor.

Illinois Times: “Seven Years of Black Sheep”

We have made it to the newspapers this week!  Be sure to pick up a copy of the Illinois Times, which you can find for free at many local businesses around town.

Our friend Tom Irwin was kind enough to dedicate his “Now Playing” column to us to help celebrate seven years of Black Sheep running as an all ages music venue in Springfield.  Thanks Tom!  Kevin, Brian, and Cory talked to Tom about how the Black Sheep operates and what our place in the community is.

“We are part of the community, a part of urban renewal in a DIY ideology that supports the communal aspect of accomplishing a good thing,” explains Kevin. “We do this because, to us, it’s just the right thing to do, building an organic place for art to grow together for all of the community.”

Friday October 19 at Black Sheep – HOBGOBLINSPOOKADELIC 2012: NIL8’s 30 Year Anniversary

We are proud to announce that Black Sheep will be hosting (all ages) Hobgoblinspookadelic 2012 this year.  The show will take place on Friday, October 19th (it’s not on Halloween but you should wear a costume anyway)!  NIL8 will be headlining Hobgob as they always do.  This Hobgob will also be a celebration of 30 years of NIL8 being a band.  We are extremely lucky to have a band here in town that has been around for as long as NIL8 has and that still is able to put on great and intense live shows.

Other bands playing include Tiger Tank, The Timmys, and The Tyrants.  This will be the first Springfield show for the band Tiger Tank, which is made up of some ex members of the old Springfield band Park.  The show starts at 7:00 pm and is $5.  It should be an all around great time!

Black Sheep Fest on News Channel 20 (kind of)!

The Black Sheep Research Team uncovered another great artifact. Paul from Channel 20 came out to Black Sheep Fest and shot some footage. It was meant to be some b-roll for that evenings news, but it didn’t make the cut. Luckily for you guys, the posted it to their website!

You can see some great footage of Lovecow before they went acoustic, Bo clapping, Brian smiling, and the Pound For Pound merch.
