Obi-Wan To Release “Episode VI: Return of the Red Eyes” at Black Sheep on April 6th

601564_10200547013100864_496610739_nLocal ska-punk band Obi-Wan Kanblo Mi have requested that you all mark one month from today: Saturday, April 6th in your calendars because they will be releasing their new EP “Episode VI: Return of the Red Eyes” on that day. There will be a release show at Black Sheep. Also playing the show will be Must Build Jacuzzi from the Peoria area. From the Obi-Wan’s facebook last week:

We’ve finished recording the new EP, we just have to get it mixed and we’ll be ready to let you hear it! Then we’ll play that pesky Release party in April.

Anyone interested in playing it? We’ve messaged a few bands, but you never know what kind of line up you can throw together if you just ask.

You can listen to some of Obi-Wan Kanblo Mi’s older songs on their bandcamp page.

A facebook event for the show can be found here. For more listings of upcoming shows at Black Sheep, you can always check out our shows page.

New Band Pages: Brandon Carnes

525869_3453250584443_82015266_nWould you look at that! I guess that we hadn’t had a page for the great Brandon Carnes added to our list of band pages before this week! (That is Brandon Carnes’s solo and acoustic project). We created a page for Brandon and you can check that out as well as stream some of his songs right here.

Also be sure to check out the many many current band pages on our current bands tab. Do you play in a band that we do not have a page for yet? Shoot us an email at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set one up!

Midwest Zine Fest 2013

cropped-2012headercropped-2012header

cropped-2012headerWe try to keep you all in the loop of fests going on in Central Illinois in the areas surrounding Springfield. Today we bring you news of the third annual “Midwest Zine Fest” taking place in Urbana, Illinois on Saturday April 13th. What is Midwest Zine Fest? Well, here is the description from the Midwest Zine Fest website:

Mid-West Zine Fest is a gathering of zine-makers, authors, speakers, musicians and other rad people for the purpose of celebrating zines and zine-culture!

The festival will include interactive events, food, speakers, music and plenty of zines. The festival is open to the public and admission is free.

No, this is not a music fest where bands play but we feel it is important to mention because zines have played an important role in getting out ideas about music and spreading words of bands in the underground music scene.

Do you make zines or want to get involved with the zine fest at all? You can find info on registering your own spot on the fest here. The fest itself will be located inside at the IMC. You can find a facebook event for Midwest Zine Fest here.
