Class Picture Added to Day One of Dumb Fest

We thought we were done with Dumb Fest announcement posts, but somehow one more band found their way onto the bill. That one more band is pop/hardcore band Class Picture from Glenwood, Maryland. They will be touring with Arrows In Her in June, who is also playing day one of Dumb Fest.

And a slight change to day two of Dumb Fest- the new Peoria screamo band “Yusuke” will now be replacing Kaworu on day two of Dumb Fest. Kaworu will still be playing at Black Sheep on May 20th along with False Light, Emperor Norton, and a few others.

You can find an updated flier for Dumb Fest here. Dumb Fest is taking place June 14th and 15th this year. Day one (June 14th) features a Renae reunion show and day two (June 15th) features twenty bands playing at Black Sheep and Skank Skates. You can find a facebook event for the fest right here. Harm House: Records of The Nights

It looks like the out-of-control house venue going by the name the HARM HOUSE have set up a new tumblr page archiving all of their “record of the night” photos. You can find that page right here. Why is this news? We are not sure. But we do know that some of the record of the night photos feature a few bands that have played at Black Sheep in more recent times and have also possibly spent the night at the HARM HOUSE. Keep checking back for any more info on upcoming house shows at the HARM HOUSE or Radon Lounge.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Sean Bonnette (Andrew Jackson Jihad), Ian Graham (Cheap Girls)

The big night is here! Tonight is the big acoustic/folk/punk show we’ve all been waiting for! And on top of all of that it’s pretty much summer! Woohoo! Tonight Sean Bonnette of the popular folk/punk band Andrew Jackson Jihad will be playing at Black Sheep. He will be playing some acoustic tunes, covers, and who knows what else. Also playing and on tour with Sean is Ian Graham of the alternative/indie/punk band Cheap Girls. Then we move on to the local bands! We have Lovecow, the acoustic folk/punk band that you may have heard the other day on Black Sheep Radio. Then we have Austin & Austin- who now prefer to be called Montagh. Opening things up is the mighty mighty Mildred.

Josh Catalano & The Dirty Thoughts to Release “Give Away The Night” May 3rd

It looks like Josh Catalano & The Dirty Thoughts have been working on their upcoming full length Give Away The Night for a while now and they are finally ready to release it to the world! The CD release show for the new album has been announced for May 3rd at Bar None! While the physical release of the album will be May 3rd, the national release of the album will be May 7th. You can’t listen to any of the new album yet (although you might have heard a song or two on Black Sheep Radio), but for some older Josh Catalano tunes you can head over to JC & The DT website right here.

Also playing the show on May 3rd will be Hey Brother and Casino Kings. The show starts at 10:00 pm and is ages 21+. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Don’t forget to check our Springfield shows page for other shows going on outside of Black Sheep.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Battalion, Dreams May Fall, Heavy Arms, Vengeance, Elyse

We hope that everyone is ready to put on their metal boots tonight so that we can all come out to the show and have a great time together! It will be fun, we promise! Tonight we have metal band Battalion from Springfield and the St. Louis areas, who have also recently released a brand new EP that you can probably pick up at the show. Then we have Dreams May Fall playing metalcore from Pekin Illinois. And we have Heavy Arms from Belleville, Illinois. Did you know that Heavy Arms are also playing day one of Dumb Fest?!? Moving on, we have Vengeance from Southern Illinois playing more metal. Last but not least is Mechanicsburg metal band Elyse.

Our Lady: “Tunnel Vision”

Today we are very excited to bring you a brand new track from Springfield touring band Our Lady. “Tunnel Vision” is a track off of the band’s upcoming Vessels 7″ to be released on Mind Over Matter Records this summer. Our Lady have also recently launched a brand new website which can be seen right here. They also have their April tour dates up on their website. They plan on heading up to the east coast and back during the second half of April and beginning of May. You also can see the band in Springfield on May 22nd at Black Sheep along with Tiger Tank and a few others.

5/20 at Black Sheep: False Light, Emperor Norton, Kaworu, Dusty Fingers, Aporia

Lookout! It’s another fast and loud spring show at Black Sheep! This one is going to be on Monday, May 20th and boy is it going to be intense. This show features False Light (no, not the band from Peoria). It’s okay though because there is another Peoria band on the show! Anyways, this False Light comes from South Carolina and they play fast and heavy powerviolence. Next up we have Emperor Norton, Springfield’s finest hardcore punk band. And coming from Peoria we have the new Kaworu. Kaworu play “blackened hardcore.” Did you know they will also be playing Dumb Fest? It’s true. Now moving on to the noise. This show will feature St. Louis noise project Dusty Fingers. Opening the whole thing up will be the first show of a brand new Springfield noise project called Aporia. Aporia features a member of the band And God Said Dance!.

Black Sheep Fest Date Change

Look at all of those shorts and trees. Who’s excited for summer? We sure are. Today we wanted to put a tiny mention that Black Sheep Fest will be Saturday, July 27th this year (instead of the first weekend of August). This is because we do not want to clash with Down Home Music Festival happening downtown like last year.

Aside from Black Sheep Fest, Dumb Fest will still be happening June 14th and 15th. We anticipate that we will be releasing the lineup and flier for Black Sheep fest at Dumb Fest.

Black Sheep Radio Tomorrow: Drum Fest 2013, Lovecow

Tomorrow at 4:00 it’s another action-packed episode of Black Sheep Radio! We have some guys coming in to talk to us about Drum Fest 2013 at Donnie’s Homespun featuring Dave Weckl and Paul Wertico. We also have folk punk band Lovecow coming in to talk to us about their upcoming shows, releases, and they might even play a song or two in the studio for us! We will also be playing a few tunes representing Dumb Fest and talk about the finalized lineup for that!

Photos: Skeletal Lightning Fest

This past weekend Skeletal Lightning Fest happened in Champaign (put on by the Skeletal Lightning Label). The Fest was a success, and Springfield band Our Lady took the stage with many other bands including Into It. Over It., Anodes, Alta, Hank, Easter, and many others. Big thanks go out to EVERY single band that played, EVERY single attendee that showed up, cared, and had fun, ALL of my friends that helped me with EVERYTHING over the past 9 months, and EVERYONE in the Midwestern scene. YOU all make it what it is, and it is certainly something special. This is why we celebrate. This is why we rule. You all are wonderful! See you next year! 😉
