Now that Record Store Day is over (which was a major success), Dumb Records will not be saving up new arrivals in the basement! Everything goes straight to the shelves for you to check out! This week we have a big batch of quality used LPs among a few other things. June 26th at Black Sheep: Kittyhawk, Looming, Nectar, Colonel, Honeysuck

We are coming back at ya with ANOTHER post-Dumb Fest show announcement today. This time it is for a show happening on Thursday, June 26th. This show will feature Chicago band Kittyhawk, who have had music released by Champaign label Skeletal Lightning. You can find some of their music streaming below. This will also be a show for Springfield indie pop favorites Looming. Then we have a couple of other touring acts! This show will be a show for a new Champaign band called Nectar, featuring Kamila Glowacki of Kowabunga! Kid and other bands. Nectar will be on tour with Colonel, an acoustic act from Champaign. To top that all off we have a touch of Honey Suck added to the mix.

June 18th at Black Sheep: Seraphim, Anomaly, Caterpillar Club, Dirt Wizard, Swamp Rat

Today we have one of our fist show announcements for a show that will be post-Dumb Fest 2. It will surely be a heavy one. This show is happening on Wednesday, June 18th. It will feature the band Seraphim (pictured above) from Mississippi. They play experimental stoner metal and you can check out some of their tunes below. This show will also be a tour kickoff show for newer Chicago punk band Anomaly. We also have their music streaming below. Then get ready because Springfield heavy shoegaze band Caterpillar Club will also be playing. Also playing is Peoria stoner metal project Dirt Wizard. The icing on the pie for this one will be the new Springfield sludgy hardcore band Swamp Rat.

May 3rd at Black Sheep: Table Drama, Orator, Airacobra, Witchweed, Animus

On Saturday, May 3rd (which is coming up very fast) we have a very heavy show happening at Black Sheep. It looks like Springfield’s biggest villains Table Drama are returning from a little bit of a hiatus. Will they be back with some tricks up their sleeves? You might just have to go and find out. This show will also feature Champaign/Urbana sludgy band Orator. You can check out some of their music below. Then we have the Central-Illinois based scary rock band Airacobra. If that’s not enough for you, we have the Taylorville stoner and Sabbath-like rock band Witchweed (pictured above). Opening things up is a newer band from the Central Illinois areas called Animus.

Easter: “Not Alone”

In honor of this special day we are breaking our Springfield-band coverage rule a little bit to show you this new music video for Champaign/Oak Forest project Easter. Today Easter premiered their new hit music video along with a new song “Not Alone.” The song will be featured on an upcoming cassingle that will be out on Champaign’s Rat King Records. You can check out the music video below.

Easter will be playing one of their final shows at Black Sheep on June 13th as part of Day 1 of Dumb Fest 2. You can find a facebook event for Dumb Fest 2 right here, and expect some ticket info to go up sometime soon.

Today in South Town: Record Store Day

Today is a big big big BIG day for South Town with a LOT of stuff going on. Let’s talk about Dumb Records first. It is Record Store Day. Dumb Records is located on 1107 South Grand Ave and will be open today from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. Everything in the store is going to be 10% off. There will be TONS of new arrivals in store for this day. You can check out that long list of stuff right here.

Let’s move on to talk about Empire Board Shop. Empire Board Shop is the new skate shop that just moved in to South Town right above Dumb Records. Today will be their grand opening. They will be open from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm today. The shop has plenty of skateboarding merchandise, boards, and more cool hangout rooms with video games and foosball.

Okay let’s move on to the shows. There are THREE shows happening in South Town today. The first kicks off at 1:00 pm in Black Sheep. This is going to be a FREE show so you have no reason not to come. Bands playing that one are Built In A Day, War Magic, and Josh Catalano & The Dirty Thoughts.

The second show is taking place inside of Dumb Records. That show kicks off at 3:00 pm and is also free. The bands for this one are all acoustic. They are Cody Jones, Ted Keylon, Blind Social, Self Proclaimed Narcissist, and Randle Travis. We have a new store setup to accommodate the space for this show.

The last show and grand finale will be taking place inside of Black Sheep at 7:00 pm. This show is $5, and it will be worth it. Bands playing this one include Crab Legs from North Dakota, Say Something, Kickstart, F*CK///\\\MOUNTAIN, and Spoonboy from Washington DC.

May 31st at Black Sheep: Asthma, Akaname, Swamp Rat, Panzys, King Worm

Today we are bringing you a show announcement for a show happening at Black Sheep later in May featuring a stacked lineup of Springfield bands that have all formed this year (2014). This is happening on Saturday, May 31st and will highlight the Springfield band Renaissance that we seem to be currently going through in this day and age. On this show we have Asthma, the new hardcore band that played their first show on January of this year. We then have Akaname, the new ska band featuring members of Lovecow and other bands. Then we have Swamp Rat, the new Springfield sludge band (pictured above, music below). Also on the bill is Panzys, another brand new and very young punk band. And opening things up is a brand new project called King Worm, who will be playing their very first show as a band. This will surely be a show not to miss.

Today on Black Sheep Radio: Blind Social, Itto

Today is going to be a very exciting and action-packed episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show! We have very many surprise guests stopping in talking about the big weekend we have coming up among other things. First we have a member of the band Itto, the Chicago-based screamo project who will be playing day 1 of Dumb Fest 2 this year. We also have all four members of a brand new Springfield band called Blind Social. They will be talking to us and also performing a song or two live in South Town Studio. Blind Social is also performing at Dumb Records tomorrow as a part of Record Store Day. Another special guest coming in is Cory Yeager of Empire Board Shop, which will be having their grand opening tomorrow right above Dumb Records.

Tonight at Black Sheep: JAG, Shitstorm, Slow Children, Mouthsex, Soap Scum

Tonight is going to be a nasty rock n’ roll show at The Black Sheep Cafe. We have the second ever performance by Springfield’s new trick-or-treat indie band JAG. Then we have a performance by St. Louis project Shitstorm, who is currently on a long spring tour. You can find some of Shitstorm’s music streaming below. This show will also feature long-running California punk band Slow Children, who are also on tour. Then we have Springfield disgusting punk band Mouthsex, who just released their demo earlier this week. To top this all off we have washed up old punkers Soap Scum who will be dusting off their leather jackets and opening the show up.

New Band Pages: Set Piece

Today we are bringing you a brand new band page on our site for Springfield rock band Set Piece. Set Piece have been around for over ten years now- since 2003. They performed at Black Sheep for their first time this past weekend with Dog of Panic, Red Letter Days, and a few others.
