Error Records

Error Records, a record store based in Urbana, Illinois and also a sister store to Dumb Records, co-owned and operated by some of the same people has announced that it will be closing at the end of September. The store will be ending and a new music destination being called “See You CDs And Vinyl” will be taking it’s place in the same building, also as a record store. See part of Error’s announcement below:

The time has come to start a new chapter in my life, and with that comes the conclusion of Error Records. The final show at the music venue will be Saturday, August 29th. The record store’s last day open is Wednesday, September 30th. I’m excited to announce Jesse Grubbs will be taking over the space with his new music destination See You CD & Vinyl. Jesse has been helping in the shop since 2015 and collecting music his whole life. I have the utmost confidence that he will continue to bring great music to Champaign-Urbana.

Error Records has had an incredible impact on me over the past two and a half years and I leave it in fond memories. There are countless people who have helped along the way. Without any of you, this would not have been possible. Thank you to anyone that has ever had faith in me, it’s kept me going when times were extremely tough. Thank you to the generous people that donated time and money to get Error Records off the ground, as well as the countless interns and volunteers. Lastly, thank you to anyone that has come to a show or picked up a record. It’s been a pleasure getting to know so many wonderful people from around the world because of this little shop. I’m proud to say that Error Records had an awesome run and I wouldn’t change a thing.

See the full announcement on Error Records’s website. We wish Nathan Landolt the best of luck with all future endeavors. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Dumb Records and a lot of what is going on in Southtown would not exist without inspiration from what Nathan has done in Champaign/Urbana as well as him pushing us to open the store, and guiding us through the process. Nathan has continued to be very supportive of Southtown from behind the scenes for many years, (he was booking shows at Black Sheep in the first few years of it being open) and even still helps us out to this day when it comes to advice and guidance on running the record store. We can’t thank Nathan enough, and also will be supportive of the new “See You CDs and Vinyl” that will be taking Error’s place in Champaign.

October 3rd at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s: The Coneheads, King Worm, Wolf Luv, Cal & The Calories

ROCKANDROLLHARDEESFINALFLIER

There are some exciting things happening in Springfield coming up this fall, and one of them is this show happening not at Black Sheep but instead at the outdoor stage at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s on Stevenson Drive. It looks like there is an incredible rock n’ roll/punk show there going to be happening on Saturday, October 3rd. For this show there will be a performance by the North-West Indiana punk group The Coneheads, who were recently featured on Pitchfork Magazine. You can find some of The Coneheads’ music streaming below. This show features one Springfield punk band, and that is the slimy five-piece hardcore group King Worm. Then the Hardee’s stage will be visited by a real wolf, from the Champaign/Urbana band Wolf Luv. And to top all of that off, if this show wasn’t cool enough for you already we have the rock group Cal & The Calories from St. Louis featuring Cal himself. What a show!

The Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s show will start promptly at 6:00 pm, and go until about 9:00 pm. There is no admission, instead there will be a box for donations for the out of town acts. There of course will also be food for sale inside Hardee’s. This event is all ages, and alcohol is not permitted. Find a facebook event for this right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page for a list of local shows going on outside of Black Sheep.

Illinois Times Best of 2015 Nominee Voting

bos_2015_transparent.widea

The time has come once again for The Illinois Times‘s annual “best of” lists, and they are once again asking for your vote. This year the voting process is going to be ran a little differently- there is going to be a poll for “nominee voting” where you get to write in your own nominees and vote for other people’s nominees. That is going on right now until September 7th. Then later on from September 17th – 28th there is going to be “run off” voting where everyone will get to vote between three nominees to chose the final winner in each category.

This year in the music section of the voting, some of the categories include “best male and female signer/songwriter,” “best rock/pop band,” “best punk band,” “best local music festival,” “best small live music venue,” “best under age band,” and plenty more. You can find the link to go vote right here.
