Yes, there IS a show happening tonight at Black Sheep! Sorry we really have not been on top of things as far as getting our show announcements out! This one tonight is a three band show featuring a few acts from our Battle of the Bands this past fall. At the top of the bill is the winner of the judges voting who is actually finishing up recording at Southtown Sound – Master Bastard. Nice! We also have the return of Decatur-based jammy band Puff Puff Poseidon. Stream a song of theirs on the player below. Opening things up we have “funky hip hop jams” from Bermuda Triad.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. We are going to be working on our shows page and getting that updated in the next few days, we promise!!

Today + Tonight at Dumb Records: 4 Year Anniversary + Free Record Day

freerecord4_final

It’s time for that wonderful annual holiday that we invented last year at Dumb Records – Free Record Day. That’s right, Free Record Day has already kicked off over at the record store (1107 South Grand Ave. East) and will be going on until 10:00 pm tonight. If you walk into the store at any point today you will get handed a free record, no if’s, and’s or butt’s about it.

In addition to free record day, there will also be an in-store show to go along with the anniversary at 7:00 pm. For that we have three acts performing. We are going to do our best at squeezing in the Southtown Livin’ Thing Band inside the record store for the first time and see how it goes! Be sure to bring a helmet for that one. We also have two touring musicians on board. This includes our friend Jared Grabb – solo folk artist from Peoria, Illinois that just recently had a new record come out. Stream some of that on the player embedded below. Jared will be on tour with Brett Conlin who will also be performing.

Dumb Records will be open on Thursday from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. The show kicks off in the evening at 7:00 pm. Find a facebook event for all of this right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep / Dumb Records in the new year.

Dumb Records 4 Year Anniversary + FREE RECORD DAY This Thursday

freerecord4_final

This one is coming up quick, but here is something to get excited about in the new year! This Thursday, January 11th Dumb Records will be turning exactly four years old. It’s hard to believe the store has gone on this long being open nearly every day between now and the start of things in January of 2014. To celebrate the store is hosting the second ever “Free Record Day” – that’s right – walk into Dumb Records (located at 1107 South Grand Ave. East) at any point during operating hours and receive a free wrapped record at no cost. The records are pre-wrapped so you don’t know what you are going to get – could be anything new or used, and of any genre!

There might be donuts in the morning too? The show kicks off in the evening at 7:00 pm. Find a facebook event for all of this right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep / Dumb Records in the new year.

Last time Kickstart performed at Black Sheep was almost exactly one year ago as one of our first shows of 2017. We also have The Complaint Line, another alternative rock band that we have not seen in a minute on our stage. Before them is “Little Death” from right here in Springfield. We also have Springfield high school band Telephone Junkies making a return since the holiday show – check out their music on the player below. Opening things up looks like is a project we know nothing about called “Prevalence.”

Hello, and welcome to a new year! Thank you to all who came and checked out the show that we had a hand in putting on at Kari Bedford Photography downtown last night as a part of the Springfield Area Art Council’s First Night. (Hannah Songer is pictured above performing at the studio space last night).

We want to let all of you fans out there know that we know the site has slowed down some over the past couple of months – but we plan on getting right back on track with this new year! We plan on keeping the content coming daily with news on local band going-ons, show announcements, and all of that good stuff. You can expect us to be back tomorrow with the first of our Best of Springfield Music 2017 series starting with the albums.

We will also be doing our best to get our Black Sheep Shows Page back up to date tonight! We do have some fun and exciting things lined up for this new year!
