What’s up! Sorry for our website being inactive the past few days- we have only been sleeping a little bit but today we are back from the dead and here to stay just in time for the Black Sheep Halloween Show! The Halloween Show is happening tonight (get those costumes ready) and we will also be having a bake sale for Black Sheep. Bands tonight include the surfy spooky rock band The Suction Cups. Stick around for our next post about a special release the band made just for this Halloween season. We also have the three-piece and Moondead from outer space. We have one out of town friend coming for this show and that is Linder– a new Bloomington/Normal solo project. You can stream some of that below. Opening things up we have another solo set by Eric Marvel, who played a great show inside Dumb Records the other night.

The show tonight starts at 7:00 pm – admission is $5 but if you have a costume on you get that special discounted price of $3. Be sure to bring an extra buck or two for some baked goods. Check out a facebook event for all of that right here. And be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up this fall at Black Sheep.

Our Lady: “Lure”

After a long wait, Our Lady‘s final album Lure is up online streaming in its entirety. You can head over to the Mayfly Records bandcamp page to hear or download the full album, or also stream it below. The record is being released on vinyl through Mayfly Records and pre-orders have begun being shipped out. The band should also have copies available at their final show, happening on Friday, October 28th at Black Sheep with Lume, Estates, and The Foxery and the album should also be available on vinyl at Dumb Records after the final show.

Lume has been well over a year in the making and was recorded by Brandon Carnes at South Town Studio. Our Lady has been an active band in the Springfield music scene for six or seven years now, going through many lineup changes and touring frequently. See our original post on the band deciding to call it a day and their full statement here.

thebluesweb

What’s this happening tonight at Black Sheep? It’s a real life folk and jazz show, mixing things up a bit. Tonight we have Real Live Tigers – a solo folk artist from Austin, Texas who did play Black Sheep before a couple of years ago in the summer of 2014. We might have hosted the show outside by our back door? Either way, check out some of Real Live Tigers’s music streaming below. Then the other touring act we have on this bill is “The Blues” from Oakland California. No, that’s not the hockey team there- they are a two-piece experimental jazz project. Going back to the folk end of things we have a Springfield based husband and wife duo called “Bungalow.” Then starting this show off, it’s only fitting that we have the End Times Trio– Springfield freeform jazz project lined up. It has also been a minute since we’ve seen them perform on the stage of Black Sheep.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and for admission we are asking for $6. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this fall.

Happy Cassette Store Day! In honor of celebrating cassettes and what some might consider to be dead formats, we are bringing news of some classic Springfield albums being re-released on cassette. Sunday Drive Records based out of Texas have teamed up with long running Springfield emo band Park to release all three of the band’s full albums on cassette in honor of the tenth anniversary of the band’s last album- Building A Better _____. You can expect Dumb Records to carry all three of the cassettes when they are released later this fall. From the Sunday Drive Records page:

Today we are extremely excited to announce that we will be releasing Park‘s Lobster Records discography on cassette tape. In honor of “Building A Better ______” turning 10 years old this year, the band, Lobster Records and SDR have been working on reissuing these albums on cassette for months.

All 3 acclaimed albums will be available on cassette tape for the very first time, with variants picked by Park’s Ladd Mitchell. Each album is limited to 50 (25 of each variant) and include 4 panel j-cards w/ lyrics, credits, and photography/art.

Earlier this Sunday we were graced with a rare performance by Dave Adams (Springfield musician active in the band Food & Money 1979-1982), playing mostly some new solo material inside of Dumb Records. Dave was joined by his brother Doug on bass and friend Jeff on guitar. They performed one Food & Money song – “Stretch Pants” which we did take video of and have on the player embedded below.

Dave is currently back in California right now working on his next solo album – Yoga Party. Check out the Springfield Illinois Music History facebook page as well for more photos and info on bands of Springfield’s past. Check out more videos and pictures at Black Sheep and around on our vids/pics page.
