Wow, thanks to all who came out last night! Now that things are ending at our home of 13+ years this is surely an emotional but also exciting time. Tonight is the LAST metal show to ever take place inside Black Sheep, and our eighth last show ever. It features touring act Summoning The Lich from St. Louis, which you can find streaming on the player below. It also features local act Eyes From Above who just released a new EP! Very cool. We’ll also have a visit from “Dr. Dick Ramirez” which happens to be another metal band from Quincy, Illinois.  If that’s not enough metal for ya, we have Primitive Deception up before them from Decatur, Illinois. And opening things up is Nethersphere from Jacksonville!

This show will start promptly at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for this show right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at everything left happening at Black Sheep in our current location.

Happy weekend everybody, and thanks to all who came out to Black Friday at Dumb Records at any point yesterday. We can’t believe that we were left with a mere two records from our order of exclusive releases. Tonight there is a show at Black Sheep – and now that we’ve announced we are moving at the end of the year we can tell you that there are only a handful of shows left in our current space. Tonight we got local emo rockers Bottom Bracket at the top of the bill. Then what’s this? It’s another Vonne reunion show! Oh joy! The out of town act on this show is emo band “Jazz Cabbage” from the Chicago area. You can go ahead and stream their music on the player below. Opening things up is solo acoustic performer Dexter.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep the rest of this year.

Also on this show we’ve got two locals. We have Prowess, who just recorded new material in some fancy studio somewhere. Opening things up we have Final Order.

It’s the weekend! And it’s cold outside! Well guess what, our heat is working great inside Black Sheep and we’ve got a different show going on tonight than we usually host. It’s a night of electronic and dubstep music. This show features long running Springfield electronic project KaBass. We also have “Mario” aka “Funky House”? Who is also based right here in Springfield. Another group on this bill is “Kid Nightmare” coming from St. Louis. You can check out a 25 minute long piece by Kid Nightmare on the player below. The last group on the bill is “Ghost” – which apparently is some hip hop from Peoria! All sorts of great things going on!

This show starts at 7:00 pm typical show time and is just $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else we’ve got coming up at Black Sheep for the rest of this year.

You can stream their music on the player below. Also on this show is heavy hitting Springfield emo group Bottom Bracket. And Secteca? Who is Secteca? Aparently a new local band called Secteca that we don’t know about! Opening things up is a solo performance by Kenyon DeShasier.

bxshalloween_finalweb

It’s Halloween, and if you don’t have anything planned for tonight and looking for something ghoulish to do – look no further than this show that we have going on. Rumor has it that the Chili Bowl Mullet man will be there (first the mayor, and now this???). This one features a stacked lineup of bands from the area. Starting from the top of that list… we have MAC – doing a set of original material this time around. We also have hardcore band Graveswitcher (very Halloween-themed name). Right in the middle we have a newer St. Louis band called Brute Force, which you can find streaming on the player embedded below. Before them is Glower– three piece grunge/indie band featuring a new lineup. And opening things up is the wild & rowdy punk band Foam Fangers.

This starts at 7:00 pm, costumes are of course very much encouraged. Admission is $5. Find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep the rest of this year.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Mobile Deathcamp, MAC (as The Misfits), U.S.M.A., Champagne Cafe, Nethersphere

updatedmacmobilemisfits

It’s the weekend before Halloween! There is so much going on in town this weekend that we can hardly keep up! And there is a big show going on at Black Sheep tonight for all you punk and metal fans. We’ve had the lineup change up a few times on us, and what we are left with is a very stacked five-band show. Tonight we have the band Mobile Deathcamp returning to the Springfield for the first time in nearly five years. Mobile Deathcamp features an ex member of popular metal group GWAR. Stream their music on the player below. The other big feature band on this show is the band MAC – performing as popular horror punk band, The Misfits. Before that we’ve got Uncle Sam’s Mutagenic Children. Then is a brand new band from Jacksonville, Illinois playing some punk/metal that we don’t know a whole lot about called “Champagne Cafe.” Opening things up is a last minute addition of metal rockers also from the Jacksonville area, Nethersphere.

This starts tonight right at 7:00 pm. For admission we are now doing a sliding scale of $7-10, you pick. Find a facebook event for this one right here. And we are about to update the shows page on our website, we promise!

The event will be taking place from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and is being called “Dare To Defy”. There will be a list of poetry readings, a speaking piece, a photography project, and a brainstorming and discussion segment. Here is a list of poets lined up to speak:

Lucy Nora
Angie Tonucci
Sherry Rothman Frachey
Colt Brummett
Casandra Austin-McDonald

For a more in-depth description of what’s going on, check out the facebook event right here. Again, that goes on starting at 7:00 pm tonight, it’s open to the public, and it’s free. Check out our shows page for a list of what else we’ve got coming up at Black Sheep the rest of this fall (we are working on updating the page today)!

Tonight at Black Sheep: The Shadows of Knight, Rockford, Tom Irwin

SHADOWS_web

Tonight’s a big one! That’s right, a big concert that we have been hyping up a lot over the past month – The Shadows of Knight, a band founded in 1965, will be performing at Black Sheep tonight. The Shadows of Knight were known for their rendition of the Van Morrison song “Gloria” and came out with a few full length albums since they started fifty four years ago. From what it sounds like, even the mayor will be there. Opening acts include Rockford and Tom Irwin.

Things kick off tonight at 7:00 pm. If we had to guess what time The Shadows of Knight take the stage, 8:45 is our best bet (but be sure to come out and catch the opening acts). Admission is $15- if you didn’t pick up a ticket in advance you are still fine coming out and paying at the door! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. And check out our shows page for other shows coming up at Black Sheep right here.

We have a big weekend full of events lined up at Black Sheep! Starting with a comedy and music show tonight – this one marks the return of Central Illinois-based comedy/improv group “The Zoo” who some of you may remember performed here back in May. We are excited to welcome them back. We are fusing this comedy show together with a lineup of more laid back solo acts. This includes the Memphis-based experimental / ambient project “Holly Gallows” whose music you can find on the player below. Did they play at The Radon Lounge at some point? Is that just one guy? Also on the bill is electronic project Imaginary Colours (with Colours being spelled the British way). Before that we have a performance by Kristin Walker (of bands Glower, Moondead, and a few others). Annnd the fourth and final musical act is electronic / new wave artist Eric Marvel.

Yes, all of that is at 7:00 pm and admission will be $7. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.
