September 30th at Black Sheep: *Free Show* Pryss, Vonne, The Suction Cups, Spooky Poo

How neat-o! On Friday, September 30th it looks like we will be hosting a show at Black Sheep that is completely free for those of you who can’t afford the usual five bucks at the door. We have a killer all local lineup for this show too. This one will feature heavy hardcore slammers, Pryss! Vote for them as Illinois Times best punk band if you so wish. From the other end of the musical spectrum, we have the feel-great indie rock pop band Vonne. How nice. Then we will be bringing in the waves with Springfield surf-rock band The Suction Cups! Opening things up is a performance by the two-piece duo, Spooky Poo.

September 29th at Black Sheep: Euriah, Pocket Science, Spooky Poo, Bloo Parks

Here’s another show that is coming up quick at Black Sheep that we have to announce! This one is happening on Thursday, September 29th just one week from tomorrow. You remember Euriah– the band from Champaign/Urbana who played that Looming show at Black Sheep last month? Well they are coming back for this one! We also have their new album available for purchase in Dumb Records if you are into them. This time Euriah will be coming with a project based out of Nashville, Tennessee called “Pocket Science.” You can stream some of Pocket Science’s music on the player below. Then we have a couple of locals on this show- including the acoustic duo from Decator- Spooky Poo. Very cool. Opening things up we have a solo set by Bloo Parks of the band Pryss.

September 23rd at Black Sheep: “Farewell Summer Festival”

Here’s another show announcement for something that is happening in just two days here at Black Sheep. This one is happening this Friday, September 23rd. This one is actually seven whole bands, so it’s kind of a festival. It’s being called the “Farewell Summer Festival” actually, being put on by “Grow The Scene.” The lineup features seven rock groups all from the area. Come out and say a good “goodbye” to summer with us at this show. Here’s the lineup:

Wow, that is a lot of bands that start with the letter “S”! Looks like this show will be starting at 6:00 pm, and things will be running late into the night. September 5th at Black Sheep: Some Kind of Nightmare, Sammy and the Punk, Walloper, Stems

We continue with the show announcements for shows that are happening early September in less than one week! This one is happening on Monday, September 5th and it is going to be a rocker. We have the band Some Kind of Nightmare coming from San Diego, California. You can check out their music streaming on the player below. Also playing this show is the local rock group- “Sammy And The Punk” featuring both Sammy and his punk friend. Then we also have some sort of power punk band from Alton, Illinois called “Walloper” making their first appearance at Black Sheep. Opening things up it looks like we have the Taylorville based Battle of the Bands all-star band, Stems.

August 31st at Black Sheep: Pryss, Prom Nite, Stye, Say Something, Statues of the Dead

Squeezing a few more of those punk shows in before the summer is over! This one is happening on Wednesday, August 31st and it is going to be a five-band banger. For this show we have Springfield hardcore band Pryss who just got back from an eight-day tour. The touring act we have on this one is Prom Nite all the way from Toronto, Canada. Check out some of Prom Nite‘s music streaming on the player below. Other than that we also have the first Black Sheep performance for a new Peoria-based powerviolence band called “Stye” lined up for you all. Then before that we have the punk band Say Something taking the stage, and opening things up is a related project called “Statues of the Dead” which you might know as the band featuring a five-year old on drums from our Battle of the Bands last month.

August 22nd at Black Sheep: Anybody But The Cops, Liz Panella, Mark Plant, Shark Week

We got a pretty dreamy show happening here on Monday, August 22nd here at Black Sheep. First off at the top of the bill we have “Anybody But The Cops” from Kalamazoo, Michigan playing some type of “jazz punk” or something or other. You can check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Then we have a couple of familiar solo projects coming from Chicago. We have Liz Panella of the band Earth Girls. Earth Girls performed here for Dumb Fest 3-D a little over one year ago. We also have Mark Plant of the bands Military Police and Broken Prayer (both have also played at Black Sheep). Opening things up we have Springfield surf and slide band Shark Week.

August 4th at Black Sheep: Absence of Despair, Abyss, Sammy & The Punk

Looks like we have little bit of a mixed genre show here, coming up quick on Thursday, August 4th just two days before the quickly approaching Black Sheep Fest. We have Providence, Rhode Island-based metal group “Absence of Despair” coming for us at Black Sheep. Check out one of their songs on that player streaming below. We also have a couple of local acts. One of these includes the hard metal band Abyss! Then opening things up we have the rock n’ roll outfit “Sammy & The Punk” mixing things up for us.

August 24th at Black Sheep: Selector Dub Narcotic, Epsom, SAP

Time for another exciting show announcement. On Wednesday, August 24th we have a special guest coming to perform at Black Sheep, and that isCalvin_Johnson. Calvin Johnson (founder of influential Olympia-based indie label K Records, and also various bands and projects such as Beat Happening) is making a return to The Black Sheep as Selector Dub Narcotic. Calvin performed a solo set at Black Sheep here last in 2009, close to seven years ago. Check out what Selector Dub Narcotic’s all about on the video embedded below. Also on this show is the “acid-reflux” rock band from Springfield, Epsom. And then opening things up we have a performance by our very own SAP. It’s a three band show, and that’s it!

August 1st at Black Sheep: Blank Spell, Moondead, GRINN, Undone

Here’s a show coming up really quick that we are excited to tell you about! We have the band Blank Spell coming all the way from Philadelphia on their latest tour. Some of you may remember Blank Spell playing up in South Town Studio as a last minute show on one of the first days of last year in early January. We are excited to have them back, check out their newest 7″ streaming below. Also on this show is the groovy experimental punk band Moondead. Then we have a (kinda?) first show, or reboot of the Austin Connelly hardcore project called GRINN. Then if you haven’t heard the new Springfield punk band Undone (featuring members of Green Messiah, GUSH, and Garter), you need to check them out at this show because they will likely be opening things up.

September 18th at Black Sheep: Mario Cannamela, Nick Demarco, Austin Connelly, Parsheika Robinson, Kiki Walker

It may seem like a little ways off, but on Sunday, September 18th we have a show happening at Black Sheep that will feature all local solo acts. We have five of those acts lined up for this show. This includes Mario Cannamela (of Livin’ Thing, Dry Heave, + more) doing his solo stuff. Mario dropped a new single recorded up in South Town Studio not too long ago. Also on this show is a first ever Black Sheep solo performance of Nick Demarco (Our Lady, Livin’ Thing, Torture Trend). Then we have a solo performance by Parsheika Robinson, singer of Shark Week. Kiki Walker of Shark Week and Moondead will also be performing solo. Then we’ve got Austin Connelly of Wir Können and GRINN and that’s it!
