Black Sheep Fest 2015 took place two weeks ago today on Saturday, July 25th. It was the eighth Black Sheep Fest that we have had so far, and it was certainly a lot of fun and featured a lot of great local acts. A total of 15 local acts performed, and today we have a good chunk of photos from the event. You can check out a few photos above and below, all of them taken by AJWF Photography. Head over to the “Black Sheep Fest 2015” AJWF Photography album on facebook to see over one hundred more photos from the fest.

Check out our vids/pics page for links to many more albums including most of the Black Sheep Fests from the past starting in 2008. Don’t forget that Black Sheep will also be celebrating our ten years as a venue with a big anniversary show this year on Saturday, September 18th. More information on that show right here.

Photos: Dumb Fest 3-D

It looks like we have finally found the time to go through the hundreds and hundreds of photos that were taken at Dumb Fest 3-D earlier this month and compile them all (or a good chunk of them) onto one flickr album so you all can see. Big thanks to photographers Maddie Rehayem, AJ Francis, Derrin Coad, Avery Sassa, Stephen Houldsworth, and Brianna Skeels. Some of them were going non-stop taking photos all throughout the two-day long fest. Check out a lot of those photos above and below, or head over to our Dumb Fest 3-D flickr album right here to look at hundreds more.

Also check out our vids/pics page for more photo albums including the two prior Dumb Fests, and some videos including some also from Dumb Fest 3-D.

A good amount of photos from SOHO 11 have been going up on the SOHO facebook page. The downtown festival took place two weekends ago and this was the first year Black Sheep and Southtown were involved with the festival, with our very own Black Sheep stage and Dumb Records tent. The festival was a great success, and we look forward to working with SOHO in the future. Bands that played the Black Sheep stage included Looming, Hospital Job, The Locals, Wir Können, Kickstart, Blind Social, and The Science Of. Check out a few of those photos above and below, or head over to the SOHO facebook page to view hundreds more.

Today we are bringing you a few videos and photos from the show at Black Sheep this past Wednesday which included bands Screaming Females, Shellshag, Looming, and Kowabunga! Kid. It was the most heavily attended show we have had at Black Sheep in a few years and we all had a blast. You can find a few photos from the show above and below, thanks to AJWF Photography, Dumb Mud and a couple of others. Also check out a video of Screaming Females playing songs “New Kid” and “Hopeless” as part of the show Wednesday at the bottom of the post. You can also find a video of Looming performing their cover of “Zombie” by The Cranberries here– a song they recorded and gave away to everyone who pre-ordered a ticket to the show.

You can check out our “vids/pics” tab for more photos and videos from bands who have played over the years at Black Sheep. Also check out our flickr page for a constant stream of show fliers and show photos from shows at Black Sheep and elsewhere in Springfield.11080855_346825762180843_1227770429800916924_o

Dumb Records St. Louis Showcase Show RECAP

soapscum

Last week on Thursday, January 15th, Melt (restaurant/venue) was kind enough to open their doors and host a Dumb Records showcase show featuring three Springfield bands and one St. Louis act. Dumb Records came and set up a pop-up record shop, and door money also went towards benefitting the Springfield record store. The show was a great success, with a good turnout for a Thursday night. We can’t thank our St. Louis friends enough for letting us put on our very own showcase in their town!

Today we have a few photos and videos from that show. Bands that played include SAP, Soap Scum (above), Diaper Rash, and Braining. Below is a video from part of Diaper Rash’s set. For even more videos of SAP, Soap Scum, and Diaper Rash, head over here.

A great time was had by all at the Black Sheep Holiday show that happened last weekend. There were plenty of smiles, and we all cried to see Big Storm perform one final time on our stage. Bands that played included Wir Können, Coed Pageant, Lamp, and Big Storm. Thanks to AJWF Photography, we have some pretty good documentation of the night. You can check out a few photos of the show above and below, or also head over to this photo album on facebook for a few more. You can also stream a youtube video below, featuring at least one song from every band’s set as well as some banter in-between.

Next big Black Sheep show/event will be the Dumb Records One Year Anniversary show coming up on Saturday, January 10th.

Old Southtown Photos (1988-2009) Recovered

15714893467_02d60d447c_b

After a long day of scanning close to 400 photographs to a computer and carefully logging dates and organizing photos, those of us at blacksheepspringfield.com headquarters are happy to bring you a good chunk of Southtown’s past today with a pretty heavy batch of old photos. These photos range in dates from 1988 with the start of the construction on Skank Skates, all the way up until the middle of the Black Sheep-era in 2009. Above you can see some of the construction on some of the ramps inside of Skank Skates in 1992 (other ramps were constructed in 1988). Directly below you can also see a picture of Black Sheep before it was actually Black Sheep as we know it, and it was being used for storage.

Check out all 265 photos that were scanned this weekend on our newly created Historic Southtown flickr album. Also head over to our flickr page for a collection of now close to 4,000 photos and fliers from all different eras of Black Sheep’s and Southtown’s past.

Photos and Videos From Hobgob 2014 at Donnie’s Homespun

15762812075_5ec877909a_z

It looks like NIL8’s annual Hobgoblinspookadelic show this year was a total blast- it happened on Halloween night at Donnie’s Homespun in downtown Springfield. Black Sheep has hosted Hobgob a recent years in a row, but this year’s event at Donnie’s was a great way to mix things up and we’ve got the photos to prove it. Bands that played included King Worm, Bad Banshee, The Timmys, The Misfarts, and NIL8. There were also costume contests, stand up comedy, and all sorts of other crazy side-performances. Check out some of those photos above and below, or head to the AJWF Photography page on facebook, or our Springfield shows album on flickr. You can also catch a video of a (very disturbing) King Worm set from that night below. Check out another video of The Misfarts from that night right here.
