SOHO Attempts To Break Record For “World’s Largest Rock Band”

1797432_414076412062081_1057814507_nWe are all about breaking records here in Springfield. It looks like on Saturday June 7th this year SOHO Music Festival Downtown will be attempting to break a world record for the world’s largest rock band! From SOHO’s website:

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the SOHO Music Festival, SOHO will be undertaking the monumental challenge of attempting to break a world record at this year’s festival by creating The World’s Largest Rock Band!

Every year SOHO receives more than 80 band submissions to perform, and while we would gladly showcase all who wish to contribute, our space is limited.  Therefore, in an effort to further our commitment in bringing the entirety of local musicians together, we are accepting the challenge of breaking the current record during SOHO10.

We’re looking for 600+ musicians to perform a three song set at
2 p.m. Saturday, June 7.  Songs will be determined at a later date (although rumor has it the Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” is a strong contender to close the set!)

If you are interested in being one of those 600+ musicians in the world’s largest band you can register with a $5 entry fee that comes with admission to the SOHO Music Festival. Find info on registration right here. SOHO Music Festival will be celebrating its tenth year this year on Friday June 6th and Saturday June 7th downtown. The lineup of bands for this year’s festival will be announced sometime in April.

Radon Lounge Announce Horse Show on June 21st

insomniacfIt may still be winter, but we are starting to see some plans for the summer of 2014 brew up in Springfield and the surrounding areas. Springfield house venue The Radon Lounge has recently announced plans for a second Horse Show, which will be a free summer festival located at The Refuge Range (not at The Radon Lounge). The Radon Lounge have announced some new additions to the festival on their website:

First, TWO STAGES!!!! We will be hosting the Barn Stage and the Garage Stage this year. The Barn Stage will be setup like last year, except it will primarily feature bands from the folksy side of the music spectrum. The Garage Stage will feature bands from the harder side of rock ‘n roll.

This year we’ll be hosting around 20 bands, mostly gems from right here in Springfield, IL, some midwest Radon favorites, and beyond. We’re still working on the lineup, but it wouldn’t be very festive to announce a festival without some sort of sneak peek, read on!

Along with announcing the festival on June 21st, the Radon Lounge have also announced a few bands that have confirmed for the festival. They are Insomniac Folklore (pictured above) from Portland, Oregon, Springfield songwriter Amy Benton, and Peoria ska band Must Build Jacuzzi. You can also hear some tunes from Must Build Jacuzzi on the player embedded below.

In order to put on the Horse Show as an event free to the public, The Radon Lounge needs your help. They have a donation link set up on their festivals page, where you can also read more about the festival. We plan on keeping you updated on the Horse Show 2014 lineup as more bands and surprises are announced. Until then check our Springfield shows page for a good look at events in town happening outside of Black Sheep.
