Today at Black Sheep: Dumb Fest 2 Day 2

Yesterday was wild, and today is the second and final day of Dumb Fest 2 happening at Black Sheep, Skanks Skates, and Dumb Records. Today is going to be the big one, with 25 bands playing back and forth between Black Sheep and Skank Skates. Be sure to hold on to your hats because things are going to go quick. Today we are breaking the world record for the most bands to ever play in South Town in one day. Ready for the itinerary today and tonight? Here we go:

This is it! We have finally made it to Dumb Fest 2, and things are kicking off today right at 3:00 pm at Black Sheep! In the nine years that Black Sheep has been around, this weekend event will be the biggest festival that Black Sheep has ever had with over 40 bands performing. Today is day 1 of Dumb Fest 2. State Journal Register: Bringing In The Punk!

Music is used for expression. This weekend, the Black Sheep Cafe, Dumb Records, and Skank Skates are collaborating in a music festival that expresses freedom and culture.

After last year’s success first music festival, Dumb Fest is being celebrated again – but this time it is bigger. Brian Galecki, owner of Dumb Records in Springfield, says that this year’s festival on Friday and Saturday will offer 40 bands – up 25 from last year – with “different styles and genres of music.”

The stages will be at the three businesses at the intersection of South 11th Street and South Grand Avenue. The highlight of the fest is the live music.

Bands from different states are coming together to showcase their love for the punk/rock music scene. “There are different types of music this year, even though it is mainly geared to punk rock. There is something for everyone to listen to and enjoy,” Galecki said.

This year, Dumb Fest has invited eight local bands to be part of the lineup. “We always try to look for active bands, the ones that tour and try to give out their music,” said Galecki.

Springfield’s Austin Connelly of the band Swamp Rat says to expect high-energy movement throughout the show. Galecki, who also is a member of the band Soap Scum, said that he is excited to play some music and he’s also excited to organize this festival. “Last year, it started raining on us and we were the first to play,” he said.

King Worm Added To Dumb Fest Day 1, Exclusive Track Premier

Dumb Fest 2 is happening tomorrow, and today we have another slight change to the lineup to announce. On day 1 of Dumb Fest (Friday), Yusuke from Central Illinois will no longer be playing. New Springfield hardcore band King Worm will be taking their place (on the Black Sheep stage at 3:30 pm).

In coordination with this switch-up and announcement we are bringing you the first ever King Worm recording, which comes from the bands upcoming five-song demo. You can check out the track “Turbine Engine Grinding” streaming below. Make sure you make it out early to Dumb Fest tomorrow (things kick off at 3:00) and be sure not to miss King Worm’s set. Tonight at Black Sheep: Hi Ho Silver Away!, Panzys, RDNT

Things are pretty crazy in South Town right now as we are scrambling getting ready for Dumb Fest 2, but we are still having a three-band punk show tonight and it is going to be a lot of fun! If you come out at 5:00 pm or later you can help us clean up and move stuff around for Dumb Fest 2. Then at 7:00 pm there is going to be this show happening.

We have the band Hi Ho, Silver Away! coming all the way from California. They are label-mates with Springfield’s very own Hospital Job on It’s Alive Records. You can also check out some of their tunes below. Also on this show is Springfield’s newest rowdy young punk band, Panzys. Be sure to catch them before they blow up big time and move to California. Then for the third band we have the three-piece punk band RDNT. Sounds like a fun night of punk.

Dumb Fest 2 Day 1 Price Change

Today we have one minor change to Dumb Fest 2 door prices. The door price for day 1 is being lowered from $15 to $12. We want everyone to be able to attend Dumb Fest this year, so we are making sure that the door cost is as low as possible (keep in mind that there are 32 bands traveling to Springfield for this, and we need to make sure those bands get paid).

You can still purchase tickets online (from now until midnight tomorrow) at $20 for a 2-day pass ($10 per day) or $12 for single day passes. Find those right here. You also have one last chance to purchase tickets at Dumb Records for that price tomorrow during the show at Black Sheep.

If you absolutely do not have money and would like to attend Dumb Fest we encourage you to come out anyways and we can possibly work with you or have you do some volunteering or cleanup. New Arrivals at Dumb Records This Week, Dumb Fest Hour Changes

Dumb Records has a few good surprises in store this week, just in time for Dumb Fest 2. You can find a list of those new arrivals below, and you can also expect a few more arrivals to pop up in the store during Dumb Fest weekend.

Dumb Records will also be open for some extended hours this weekend for Dumb Fest 2. Those hours are as follow:

Friday from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm
Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm

Dumb Records is located at 1107 South Grand Avenue. Even though there is a door cost to get into Dumb Fest 2, Dumb Records will remain open to the public for no charge all weekend. Come stop by, even if you can’t stick around for Dumb Fest!

Dumb Fest 2 Preparation + Cleanup

We would like to thank all of you who have reached out in volunteering for the quickly approaching Dumb Fest 2 happening at Black Sheep, Dumb Records, and Skank Skates this weekend. With you help we want to make sure that this fest runs as smoothly as possible and we all have a great time. Today we are asking for you help in preparing our space and surrounding area for Dumb Fest. There will be a lot of out-of-towners here at Black Sheep this weekend so we would like to make our space look nice!

We are getting together starting at 5:00 pm on Thursday (tomorrow) to clean up Black Sheep and South Town. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come help clean. We will be cleaning until later in the night, and you should also stay and check out the show happening at Black Sheep tomorrow night. Aside from the cleanup we are also asking for a few things:

-any extra water coolers
-any extra floor fans
-if any of you would like to cook or bake anything or bring any kind of food for Dumb Fest that would be GREAT. Apryl will also be providing plenty of food on Saturday and may need some extra help outside that day.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Wilt Candy, Tim Williams, Mike Baird, Real Live Tigers, Solenodon, Austin Connelly

Tonight at Dumb Records there is some sort of mega acoustic show happening that has snuck up on us real fast. Hopefully you can all grab your skateboards and head over to Dumb Records tonight for this all-acoustic all-rockin show. Tonight we have the folk punk duo Wilt Candy. If you have not seen them yet go see them. Also on this show is a solo set by Tim Williams of Dumb Fest 2 band Our Lady. There has been another last-minute addition to this show and that is a solo set by Mike Baird. Come to the show to find out what that is all about. The touring acts on this show are Real Live Tigers and Solenodon. Real Live Tigers is from Austin, Texas and played here at Black Sheep about one year ago. Solenodon is from Louisville, Kentucky home of the Kyle Ratliff. You can check out some Real Live Tigers songs below. Opening things up is Austin Connelly who will be playing some acoustic Swamp Rat tunes from the heart.

Call For Dumb Fest Volunteers

Dumb Fest 2 is quickly approaching. Day 1 is less than a week away (June 13th) and Day 2 is one week from today. This weekend we are on the hunt for volunteers for Dumb Fest 2. We are in need of helpers to help run sound, take door, help out inside Dumb Records, and help prepare food for bands. Do you not have enough money for Dumb Fest? We suggest volunteering, so we can get you in for free or at a discounted price!
